there's things like syncthing that can do the same thing in a decentralized manner (data only sent between your own devices, using their servers only for optional fast address discovery, you can run your own server for this purpose as well)

iCloud for syncing information between my Mac and iPhone. I have no need for putting school or work document/files into the cloud. It's much easier to carry it on a usb or email. I only had to collaborate once in college with Google drive btw.
