>Microsoft is finally making IP addresses hidden by default on Skype. Reports surfaced around four years ago noting that a flaw in Skype allowed malicious users to obtain IP addresses through the service. While Microsoft recently introduced the ability to hide your IP address in Skype, this is now being made default with the latest update released today.
>It's an important change that will mostly affect gamers and streamers. Gamers often struggle to prevent distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks because rivals can simply look up their Skype ID and use a number of resolver services to find an IP address and overwhelm it with traffic, knocking someone offline.
TOX GOT BTFO. IS TOX EVEN TRYING?
NO MESSENGER SHOULD BE CALLED "PRIVATE" OR "SECURE" IF IT LEAKS YOUR IP ADDRESS TO PEOPLE YOU CHAT WITH.
BRAVO SKYPE. 4CHAN DOESN'T LEAK YOUR IP TO OTHER USERS, SO WHY DOES TOX STILL DO IT?
Yes it does. Tox is pure P2P+DHT+NAT punching so the swarm sort of needs to know where you are.
>m-muh IP hiding
Literally only a problem if you're talking with people you don't trust. Also you can run it over Tor if you're a crazy fuck and can tolerate latency.
>You can't be completely secure without being anonymous.
If you're using a device connected to the Internet, you're never completely secure. If you allow others to access anything of yours that isn't connected to the internet, you're not completely secure. If you interact with anything, you're not completely secure.
Back to your fucking pig pen bill.
FUCK OFF MICROSHILL
>oh yes I love that my data passes through microshit servers where they can analyze everything you say
Not him but if you're a weeb you need to fuck off
>i'd rather exchange everything a program can juice out of my computer with Microsoft than exchange IPs with the person i want to talk to.
Christ, is it the new Memesoft India shill squad?
>Toxing with Snowden
>We know each other's IPs but that's okay because we're both behind 7 proxies
>NSA doesn't know shit
>Skyping with Snowden
>We don't know each other's IPs
>NSA detects red flags in Skype logs
>Get arrested for treason
Talking with snowen is not treason, numbnuts
Or you could just use Tox over Tor and not worry about a thing.
Tox isn't anonymous by default because of latency concerns with audio/video, but you can simply point Tox to your local Tor proxy if you want to.
Folks if you want hi quality audio video streaming over internet then ip to ip via udp is the only way to go. Microsoft routes all skype traffic through its servers not for security but for recording and analysis. This adds lag but also had the upshot of you receiving traffic from the server and not the skype client.
Just so you know, we can still track your ip, and if you try to go off the grid, you will get v&, so don't try it, also, we have backdoors in your shitty Linux distros, so don't even think that just because you're on some shitty distro your secure.
>How does TOX Leak IP's?
Anybody can see your IP when you chat with them. Imagine every post on 4chan you make has your IP on it and it's pretty much the same thing. There is zero anonymity on Tox.
4chan mods, the FBI and the NSA can see your IP when you post on 4chan. Same goes for when you use Skype. Personally I'd rather be able to control who sees my IP (e.g. contacts who I explicitly add) rather than some nameless, faceless government agents and random server owners.
Tox gives you the option to be fully anonymous if that's the sort of protection you desire. Skype and 4chan don't.
>I shouldn't have to use tools designed to protect my identity if I want to protect my identity
kill yourself faggot. if tox had tor-like anonymity audio/video quality would be unusable.
Tox isn't even proven to be secure. For all you know, there could be a 5 man team at the NSA plugging into the Tox DHT just to slurp up all the conversations you think are private because it's considered a high priority target because people, pedos, terrorists, criminals, drug lords, etc think they are guaranteed security when using it.
Why the fuck would I use something that isn't proven to be secure AND leaks my IP to anybody I chat with? Fuck that shit.
>Tox isn't even proven to be secure.
You just described all software in existence.
>there could be a 5 man team at the NSA plugging into the Tox DHT just to slurp up all the conversations you think are private because
That's not how P2P works you dumb fuck. The DHT is only used for friend requests, and those ARE anonymous.
>there could be a 5 man team at the NSA plugging into the Tox DHT just to slurp up all the conversations
>You just described all software in existence.
Signal is proven to be secure.
OTR is proven to be secure.
PGP is proven to be secure.
Tox is not proven to be anything but a /g/ NEET project that trusted people who ended up stealing money.
The NSA can't break strong crypto. They aren't Gods with the ability to break maths. Besides, the harder we make their job the more resources they have to put into their operations, which means the less effective they are (especially in regards to low priority targets, e.g. innocent people).
Signal is centralized you twat. None of those are "proven" secure. Kill yourself NSA shill.
>yfw there are actual shills on 4chan whose job it is to discredit Tox and encourage people to use centralized comms like Skype and Signal
>yfw it's almost been three years and they still haven't found anything wrong with the code itself
I was ddossed for playing average in a tf2 pug. I wish I was kidding. Luckily I have a subnet of IP addresses so I can switch and pretend my internet's been knocked out and they get bored and stop.
