>>52607023 I know. I actually dual-boot arch and windows 7. What bugged me was that anon up there acts like getting shit to work on loonix only takes an hour. This is pure bullshit. Only a nerd could make a shitty OS work that quickly. Only reason I use it is to relieve me of boredom. Linux is a half baked piece of shit.
>>52607159 >install windows >ethernet doesn't work >no sound >install 5 drivers off usb stick >have to patch windows update to make it work correctly >spend 14 hours installing updates >use windows the next day
>>52607084 If you have an SSD you could install Linux Mint in probably 10 minutes. It's fully ready to use for office and browsing and messaging. Of course it won't be ready for your specific use-cases, but no distro/OS is. Just add to that the time it takes to install Wine.
>>52607159 >install windows >download and install chrome >click on executable >carefully read every slide of 5000 page installer, making sure not to leave a checkbox unchecked >accidentally leave one unchecked >auto-install backdoor >auto-install keylogger >auto-install bot software >auto-install addware >auto-install malware >auto-subscribe to malware updates of the month >re-install windows and try again
>>52612600 >I wonder how many have filtered you since you decided to start posting. I'd like to know this too. If people are so delicate and easily offended then maybe it's time I left 4chan. I've been noticing an influx of redditfags on 4chan lately.
>>52613358 There will be a time when Linux is ready for dangerously retarded people who still in the year 2016 struggle to use it properly. It's just not here yet. Others have no problem with it so don't worry, just be patient.
>>52615990 >I urgently needed to run a specific windows program >>52616073 >There were more than one Which of these is it?
And MS Office is not one program. It's an office suite with multiple programs. And as long as you don't specify what it is that you need, I will tell you that you could have just used a free Office alternative, e.g. LibreOffice.
>>52616330 >learned a completely new program suite What is there to learn. It's a standard office suite and looks just like MS Office before they added their "ribbon menus". Just fire it up and start using it.
>>52616350 It has all the features I need. But that's just Writer (Word), sometimes Impress (PowerPoint) and eventually Calc (Excel) for extremely basic stuff. But I reckon most people are the same as me in this regard. If you need some specialized stuff I guess then you might miss some functionality.
>>52616378 I guess it'd be nice if an official app existed to edit LO documents, but at least there is a viewer. Then again, it can't be very enjoyable to do work like that on your phone. You'd probably still use at least a tablet if you can.
Should i just wait for 2 months until Filezilla moves downstream then? Update the whole system to unstable? Distrojump? Manually installing all the dependencies and then manually install filezilla from make install like this retard recommends >>52616815 ?
Nope, fuck that.
My patience ran out at that incident, and by then i've tolerated alot of bullshit in Linux distros.
>>52616562 >using windows. >needing to search and install every program one by one instead of just checking a box. >no dependency resolution so folders like winsxs grows as shit >again no dependency resolution and no control over the files installed, trying to uninstall VS and a lot of things got installed with it and i must uninstall them one by one, a lot of garbage is left after the installation. >Tries to install a program to mount and burn isos, is like walking on a mined field, some of the checkboxes are worded in a confusing way, i just wanted to install a program to mount isos, not press next and check or uncheck chekboxes thousands of times. >Windows store is full of mobile-like apps and other crap when they could have included in their official repo a lot of open source software that is actually useful like k3b. >no tabs in the file manager (i guess that's why it's called windows and not window). >no customization by default, needs to modify system files to install a theme i actually like. >Updates are forced on windows 10, makes me to reboot without any other option and sometimes some of my hardware has stopped working (like the sound card). >Slow as shit, it doesn't matter if the desktop appears in 15 seconds if it'll keep unresponsive one minute more. >downgrade to windows 7, tfw i need disable updates and run scripts just to be sure that i'm not sharing any not desired information with microsoft. >tfw i'm literally fighting with my own software provider which i would be supposed to trust, also i cannot just keep my system updated even if new vulnerabilities are disclosed because i don't trust in Microsoft to not do something shitty. >install xubuntu, comes with a lot of utilities that windows lacks or considers premium (like encryption) by default.
xubuntu works as expected, maybe some generic "AAA games" that was crafted with closed windows-only APIs runs faster on windows, but it is not worth the maintenance to keep it updated and working.
>>52616957 >Manually installing all the dependencies and then manually install filezilla from make install like this retard recommends You'd only have to install dependencies if any are missing. You do not have to make install. You can download the archive, extract it, and in there you will find the executable to start FileZilla.
>>52617079 >You are limited to those checkboxes alright. why you say that? you can add external repositories from third parties and even create your own packages, it's like saying that you're limited to the ammount of installers for windows
> Linux is just the thing for you if you like to spend time customizing unimportant shit. >trying to sell the lack of a feature as a feature >trying to discredit the other person without giving arguments except "it's a feature i don't care" anon pls
>>52617142 I'm not going to break down that wall of text you posted and reply to every line. (Because that annoys the shit out of me on this board, fucking stop that anon no-one is going to read that shit.)
Linux on desktops will die a slow and painful death. It's stuck way back in the past and those who develop for it can't come to an agreement for where it should head next.
There is no chance in hell that it will ever go mainstream.
>Gnome 3 launched with experimental UI and a new idea of using a OS. >Fuck that, we want to stick with the old. >Birth of MATE and Cinnamon since Gnome 2 is discontinued.
>>52617375 >I'm not going to break down that wall of text you posted and reply to every line. (Because that annoys the shit out of me on this board, fucking stop that anon no-one is going to read that shit.) lol, do what you want.
>Linux on desktops will die a slow and painful death. ok so the bet is set, stay mad.
>It's stuck way back in the past and those who develop for it can't come to an agreement for where it should head next. It's developed with a lot of people with different ideas, talent is not exclusive from big corporations and it's an open terrain for innovation and promotes competition, why should we wat to stop the natural selection.
>There is no chance in hell that it will ever go mainstream. It's not about if people believes that it'll become mainstream or not, it's that people will keep working regardless of if all people likes or not, i'm happy using it and i know a lot of people that is too, so for me your prediction is worthless.
>Birth of MATE and Cinnamon since Gnome 2 is discontinued. And this is something bad because? you cannot even do that with the closed source development model.
