Finally got a job, but it makes me travel a lot so I have to abandon my desktop for a while.
Sure I could build mATX case, but i would need to carry screen with me, which would suck, so I made decision to get a laptop.
I do not like how all those gaming laptops looks like gay parade participants, but I guess I have to deal with it.
I found 17" Acer Predator, cheapest thing available in local store with 970m in it.
CPU: i7 6700HQ
GPU: GTX 970m
RAM 8GB DDR4
Storage: 1TB HDD with either M.2 slot or 2.5" bracket (information varies)
17" FHD screen, weight about 4Kg but that would not be a problem for me.
Should I go for it or is there better solution to keep decent machine with me on travel.
I wish someone would make something like Alienware M11x but with 14nm APU + HBM2 and M.2 instead of 2.5"HDD, use saved space of dGPU and HDD for more battery. Also without retarded Alien styling.
I would get this just to play some
Fair enough reason OP, just beware...
I used to own a RazerBlade, it was utter shit and it was my impression that that was the pinochle of portable gaming.
I'd consider buying a nice ultrabook (rmbp, dell xps 13/15, Carbon X1) and maybe settling for a console for now...
CPU doesn't matter much, but I'd at least want to aim for a 980m, which is already slower than a desktop 970. 970m is 30-50% slower than a 970, but might not matter if you play assfaggots or other low-demand games.
>25+ year olds
When will you finally grow up?
I seriously have no fucking idea, also if was a 512gb 2014 14" QHD+ model, I got it for cheap on eBay and sold it at a profit of $500 dolleriedoos.
I honestly haven't kept up with the gaming laptop market, things might have improved slightly. But it still seems like a terrible idea.
>I don't like what you like even though it does not affect me in any possible way, therefore you are not a grown up, well developed individual like me.
>Everyone is stupid but me
>childishly mocking me by repeating what I said
Building blocks are that way junior.
>not having a desktop processor in your laptop
Do you even overclock?
I know the rules and I can see why its in place, but all this thread has does is provoke a discussion which is for the most part more healthy than most of the stuff on /g/. It's not like he came here with a screenshot of some error message and asked us to fix it
>not having a desktop GPU, liquid cooling, AND a mechanical keyboard on your laptop
Do you even game?
If I were you, I would unironically get the Razer Blade. Thin, more or less the same specs as the one you posted in the OP, except it has more RAM (not that it matters) and doesn't have obnoxious styling that screams "look at me I'm a gayming laptop"
Although it is stupidly expensive, but if you're going to buy a gaming laptop, might as well go all out
>not getting an HP Omen if you care about style
>looks no different than standard run of the mill HP office laptop
No dear god please learn from my mistakes!!!! Don't be fooled by its looks. It's really an ugly macbook with big thick bezels, a stupidly high resolution screen that to ramp up to 1000°c to drive, some shitty front firing speakers made of fucking mesh! Not machine drilled like apple. The paint coating is ultra thin, a fucking fingernail could remove its coating. It's a fingerprint magnet. The fucker is heavy, don't be fooled by its size. Run your finger along the hinge under the screen and you can hear the plastic poping and cracking, it fakes being premium. Seriously once you use it, its fucking garbage. I could go on if you want me to..
ASUS and everyone else really should straight up start copying HP.
>Not machine drilled
>you can hear the plastic poping and cracking
Not even trying.
I don't own a Mac! And you don't own the fucking blade, you just jerk off to tech reviewer's.
It's a fucking cheap black macbook clone with a somewhat decent GPU. Fantastic it just overheats and has shit battery, get whatever you want OP, just make an educated decision
Last thing, all gaming laptops are fucking garbage, its a stupid idea and its failed consistently time after time, they are all overpriced, heavy, impossible to cool and have shit battery life. Fantastic. Fuck y'all
I can relate to you OP. Traveling a lot, most of time staying in africa, less in eu. Bought ASUS G771JW
>GTX 960m 4GB vddr5
> 8GB ram
>750gb HDD one slot 2.5'' and one m.2 slot
Cooling could be a little better, while gaming reaches 85 degrees Celcius and starts throttling cpu. Bios update could work there is new version. Now after 4months it died. AC adapter not working or working and not charging up battery. Possible the port is broken. Going back to europe in a month and will return to warranty.
>bought a MSI Apache last year, absolute beast of a machine
>SSD inside has failed, can't boot up anymore
>Still waiting to hear back from custom service
I'm fucked if they screw me over, I hope they won't because I figure its a straight forward RMA. How easy would it be to fix it myself if it came to that? I figured I could just replace it with a bog standard hard drive but I've never gone under the hood of a laptop before and the idea scares me.
Anyone know whether ASUS N552VX is any good?
This. I honestly don't understand why the designers always gimp shit in their quest for cost savings. The complete lock down nature of laptops frustrates me to no end. It can have the best hardware but sgitty screen, way too heavy, lack of certain internal connectors and all that bullshit. And a lot of gaming laptops meet the form factor and hardware I want, but look like an edgy 14 year old.
The dell inspiron 15 7000 is a pretty good gaming computer that doesnt look like complete garbage
A friend bought it and he is really happy with it
If something aesthetically pleasing like that was made, I'm sure people would buy it. Just a macbook pro competitor without whacky chink styling or edgy gofaster details that most high performance windows laptops have.
>got a job
>now I need a gaming laptop!
either this is an army ameriburger or some kind of failed salesman.
Stop creating ways to spend the money you haven't earned. This only works on a big scale.
>WASD specifically raised and rubber fitted
>Trackpad off center right where your hand rests while using WASD
The stupidity is fucking with my head right now...
this desu senpai
Why do gaymen laptops even need numpads? Nothing past 1995 uses the numpad for anything much less AAA games that actually needs the power a gaming laptop provides.
Couldn't they save the space and put something actually useful in the space like more battery or if not that, better cooling?
