Alright so I think I fucked up
I have a blue yeti mic, pic related is the cable. It's been plugged in for more than a few weeks no problem, however today while I was downloading Visual studio a USB power surge occurred, or at least that's what the notification said. Now when it's plugged in it somehow turns off my keyboard and my mouse.
I know the USB is fine, as I tested it, but I don't know if the cable is fried or the mic itself.

It needs to be something decent enough to play dota 2 etc, and nice monitor for my tv series

Restart the system and try a different USB port. Then try again. It might also be worth noting that my Blue Yeti has done odd things with cheap USB cables before (storage static iirc).

Re-asking for new thread. Screen tearing while browsing /g/ is making me want to kill myself.
>>
>>52589358
I tried all of the ports, no luck.
Even before I fully insert the cable, both the mouse and keyboard shit themselves. It happens even when the cable isn't connected to the mic.
It is the same cable the mic was packaged with, if it helps any.
Is it possible it has a static charge? And how would I discharge it?

I want to make a 1151 setup, i'm pretty sure on the other parts, but i don't know what's good/dogshit on mobos. i want to build a pc that, you know, just WORKS when i need it to for what i need it for.

Is it just that one server or do ALL servers have high ping?

If its just that one server you probably just have extraordinarily bad routing to it.

Would /g/ approve of tagspaces?
http://www.tagspaces.org/
It claims to be a file tagging program that inputs the tags in file names. (e.g.: img_093 [laughing_girls sakura sakurafish everyday].jpg)

I want to use it to organize ALL my files, especially reaction images. However, I want to use it in conjunction with with HappyPanda and HydrusNetwork - would that be possible?

I fear just trying it because I already organize all my files by file name, so I would basically have to destroy my existing organization structure.
In addition to that, I fear that filenames are much too short for many tags. I love tagging, I want to have a gajillion tags.
I also fear that it might stop being developed on - it seems to be FOSS, though. Does that make it much more likely to stay updated?
Lastly, at some point I want to transition from Windows to some Linux distribution. It claims to be cross-platform. Would it really be unproblematic?

So I'm running a gtx 960, with the latest driver version(361.43).

Every time I restart my computer, my graphics card completely shits itself. It stutters massively, won't get more than 40 frames in fucking anything(except Vermintide, where everything runs at like 5x the normal speed like it's on crack). I thought my GPU was dying, but then I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them and it started working fine again. Except I have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers every fucking time I restart my computer, for any reason.

(reposting from old thread)
I have a problem were in some games it seems out of sync, this happens mostly with timers (cooldowns, clock etc.) 'lagging' back and forth.

My character jumps around but even other characters in the game don't, it's very strange, here are some examples.

https://gyazo.com/ebf30968a8d0c9c11519e26fa30f4bbd - .gif that's too big for here

https://gyazo.com/53c0e7c678bcef8a03451cac4a9ee747

The example game isn't the only time it happens, it happens in other games too. I have no idea what would cause it, searches reveal nothing, any help would be appreciated.

I've tried getting this answered twice now but no replies, if there is another information I can give for you to help I can.

>>52590649
Internet speeds are fine, ping isn't high though it might be a packet size problem, everyone else in the game moves normally.

Basic specs are i7 processor which is 3 or so years old at the moment, GTX 970 ti 4gb, I run Windows 10 and the game from an SSD and I have 8gb of RAM, I can't recall the speed of it though. Performance, at least from the task manager performance viewer, looks fine.

I'm not at my computer at the moment so I can't give a full rundown, I will be able to later though, if it's necessary.

Got an EVGA gtx 970 for my first build (built it last weekend).

What should I expect to be able to overclock it to, and any advice for overclocking? I was just playing around with the overclocking software last night and I think I got to +120 on the core clock before the minimum fps dropped from 25 to 7 in unigene heaven and artifacting started showing in more than just scene 10 (at least I think that was artifacting).the It was also the area I started getting black screens, although nothing ever actually crashed.

(base clock speed turbos to 1342 and max at 1392).

Also, I've heard that using the adapter that comes with the card is bad, should I switch it out?

Hey /g/. I come looking for advice. I'm gonn simply copypasta the conversation here that I had with someone else.

Well the past couple months I can't shut down my computer unless I wanna risk it not rebooting

I don't know what exactly was wrong with it, but on reboot it gets to where the windows logo comes up and it's loading

But it sits there endlessly.

It used to be that I could hard reboot it and it would work, but over time that worked less and less

And for the past three days, it's been unreviveable

I've tried booting from an external HDD backup

I've tried system restore

I've tried startup repair

I've even tried booting up a version of Linux Mint from a CD, and you know how much I hate Linux

I had al but given up

So today I decided to go for broke and do a full factory reset

Even after that, it took a couple of reboots for it to finally work

And now I'm online, everything seems fine other than everything needing updates

[REDACTED]

this isn't a stupid question but you should ask here
just copy an paste what you said
>>52589267

[REDACTED]

Well perhaps I'll try there

But here's my predicament

I need to reboot to update Internet Explorer so I'm using the current version

At the same time, I want to try and install TF2 to see if it will work now that I've reset everything\

But if it doesn't work, it'll blue screen and I'll have to reboot anyway

Should I take the risk of rebooting and hoping everything's fixed, or should I just play it safe and not?

I'm trying to decide on a graphics card. It'll be in an mITX build. Australian prices fucking suck.

>390X is $589 to $689
>980 is $699 to $999 (WTF)
>980Ti is $999 to $1399

Come to the conclusion over loads of research that a Sapphire 390 Nitro OC'ed ($509) and cooled with a H110 ($149) and Kraken G10 bracket ($45) is probably best price-to-performance. My logic is that down the track if I upgrade GPUs I'll have a CPU cooler for another build or to donate to someone, so some of the value is retained.

$509 + $149 + $45 = $703

Is this dumb or good thinking?

Standard on linux is to create a user group with the same name as the user for every user. Then additional groups where needed, eg. wheel for admin privileges (ability to use sudo). Using the desktop as a root user is really bad form, you are just going to accidentally break something.

A single 970 should be able to handle any unigine benchmark easily. You may have a horrible overclocker, but I'd try playing with the voltages a bit. You may be able to get more out of the card that way.

Sounds like Windows Vista is fairly fucked.

There could be something more sinister going on with the underlying hardware seeing as its a freebe laptop. But since the sensible thing to do in any case is just reinstall the OS, I would recommend that you just get busy reinstalling Windows Vista (download a genuine ISO image from MS website + use the license key on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop).

Or, if you actually know what you are doing, install you're fave Linux distro. But judging by the nature of your query, you may be better off sticking with Windows.. :^)

I cannot even come up with a reason when anyone should pick C. Maybe if you target tiny boards with very limited memory.
Maybe then.

But the rPi can already run Python.
And you could also use "PyPy" which can be wicked fast.

Well it is bad for anything, unless you want to work on the Linux kernel. The world uses C++, Swift, Java, etc. But C... probably only in the world of Linux.

I need to upgrade my motherboard, but I don't want to have to reinstall Windows. From what I remember, you only have to reactivate Windows (which is an automatic thing it does online) as long as the new motherboard has the same OS loader as the old one. The thing is, new motherboards have some UEFI thing instead of a BIOS? I don't know how relevant that is, and I don't know how to look up which recent motherboards have the same OS loader as my current one.

How can I look up which new motherboards I can move my hard drive to without having to reinstall the OS?

Hey /g/, need your help
So back in June, after leaving my computer in a basement for a month, I came back to it giving me beeps. Since then I've swapped out multiple components, and am now sitting with a new board, a new case, a new processor, and new RAM, but I'm still getting the same three beeps, even on the other board.

I've tried with i7 3770k, i5 3570k, Kingston HyperX Blue, Geil Evo Leggera, Asrock Z77 Extreme3 and the Intel DZ77GA-70K

It's three beeps before the computer shuts off with either board before rebooting and doing the same thing.

I've got a 1000W PSU, a bluray drive, 3 x 3TB HDD, a 120GB SSD, and two GTX 770's in SLI. I'm not really sure what else it could be.
>>

If you are not already doing it, I recommend you buy a nice big HDD to store all the data you dont need every day.

SSDs will speed up booting, programm starts and programm execution.
So all the pictures, movies, musik can be put elsewhere so the SSD is reserved for the system and programms that benefit from the faster read/write speed.

I think my phone has some windows virus on it because my browser has been acting up ever since I plugged it in to copy photos over (this is the first time I've plugged it in). I ran a malwarebytes scan on my computer and removed a bunch of threats, but is this enough to make sure my drives are clean? Should I dban them and reinstall the OS? Also, what about my phone? Is the best way to clean that by flashing TWRP to wipe it or something? Thanks.

Some people prefer Nginx, that's all. There is no solid good enough reason to prefer one over the other.

there is no such thing. the UEFI can be ran in legacy mode for systems that support BIOS.
just get anything man, it'll work. might have some "hardware changed" errors when starting Windows for the first time but it's nothing google won't help you solve.
>>
>>52598608
Do your own research
https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=apache+nginx

tl;dr: nginx is newer, has less legacy baggage, is much more efficient, much more scalable, and much cleaner to work with.

Apache only continues to be used because it's older and was able to gain dominance when it was the only game in town. Now people like >>52598645 use it because they don't actually have any idea of the differences between them, but heard somewhere that apache is some kind of de facto standard.
Apache is sort of like Windows now that I think about it.

Not in my experience. Chances are, when moving a hard drive to a new motherboard, the motherboard will simply refuse to boot from the device no matter how many BIOS settings you tweak. Outside of rare cases, it would require a reinstall of Windows to get running.

That said, there's apparently this Sysprep feature which I've never heard of and am just now reading about. Hopefully using it will take care of things.

Just dont listen to unqualified shilling and shit.
people will always go on about the things they like and tell you everything else is shit.

Apache is a simple tool for webhosting and has been in use since forevery.

Ngnix is another tool for webhosting that is more complicated but offers more detailed options.

Just because apache does not offer all kinds of shit you could possibly need its not shit.
And just because ngnix has many expert level settingsn shit does not mean its the best ever and everything else is shit.

If Apache serves your needs its fine. If not try ngnix.

There's no reason to use apache for that.
Use the overall better tool, even if your scale is too small to see that much of a benefit from it.

Owncloud even provides an example nginx configuration so there's no merit at all to the fear-mongering "it's harder to configure" bullshit that the apache shill is trying to feed you

I remember my being extremely paranoid about fucking up my laptop or its battery when I first got it, so I looked up if it's ok to run a laptop plugged into the wall without a battery, or with one, or if it's ok to leave a battery unused and removed from something for extended periods of time and shit like that, and I remember reading that one of the main reasons for at least draining a laptop's battery from full to dead at least once a month is that it helps maintain the battery's ability to accurately gauge it's power level. Conditioning through exclusive or almost exclusive use can have a similar affect on a battery, such as if one were to never drain their battery fully, but always start recharging it when it is at say, 20%. I forgot what I read happens in such a scenario, but I believe the battery will just show it hovers around 20% when in fact it is lower, and it may just die before it should.
