I don't. Nearly everyone has switched over to 7zip too.
I still bought a winrar license for like $20 last year just to say thanks to the winrar devs. For years winrar had kept nagging me to pay yet it kept all the features I needed for free. Winrar was a true bro.
Someday people will forget about it, just like it happened to WinZip
I actually bought a full version of winrar and use it to this day. I don't know how to feel. I bought it mainly because it just werks (tm) and I had no idea 7zip even existed.
What's wrong with winrar anyway? Why do people object paying a license for winrar anyway? Are most people THAT fucking dirt poor?
Recovery record, compression and encryption at the same time, in one file and in one simple operation. It can't be beat.
The only other alternative is to run Linux on a machine with ECC ram and have the HDDs formatted in ZFS with compression activated and store true-crypt volumes on that.
If that's not your thing, you can just install WinRar on your Windows machine.
Why do you need recovery record, compression and encryption at the same time I hear you ask? To protect and store your files as efficiently and safe as possible of course.
I'm actually serious. Recovery record ensures data integrity, compression negates the overhead of a large recovery record and encryption is always advisable, especially if you plan on backing up your data to the cloud.
I got WinRAR running on Zorin OS, until 5 days ago when i removed dbus and the whole system went nuts.
7zip STILL has problems with that
>hurrdedurr everything must be done via CLI
Why would I type words on the keyboard when i can just DOUBLE CLICK A FUCKING FILE? You realize we have mice because they're a better way to interact with computers, right?
You autists are hilarious.
On Windows, I personally use 7-zip because I want to stay the fuck away from WinRAR. But some archives (in rar format that is) doesn't extract properly with 7-zip, but works perfectly with WinRAR. It's fucking stupid, my guess is that they have some changed it up and have some sort of new proprietary compression method that only works with the WinRAR application.
7-Zip works with pretty much everything other than those extremely rare WinRAR-only .rar archives. I wish rar would die permanently, and soon.
>paying for a single $20 software license as a thank you for literally years of useful free service with a little bit of "buy me pls" nagging makes you a cuck
>tfw you were going to buy the winrar license but learned the creator died
i tried switching to 7zip recently but it was very slow extracting things and caused a weird bug where i couldn't click outside the open folder that contained the file i was extracting. i just pirate a licensed winrar with every fresh install now
>Why would I type words on the keyboard when i can just DOUBLE CLICK A FUCKING FILE? You realize we have mice because they're a better way to interact with computers, right?
No, using a CLI is the thing that makes me superior to all those Windows and OSX users who use an operating system to just accomplish everyday tasks.
CLI makes you enlightened.
Am I the only one who uses .rarfrog?
Sigh. The good ol' days, when the first program you'd have to install was Winzip or Winrar because your warez were always compressed and Windows didn't know diddly about archives.
Jesus Christ do you people need everything to have flashy graphics just to use it? Stop getting so triggered because it's not memeterial design.
Why would you ever do this?
Winrar is garbage and 7zip is the only correct alternative. It just werks.
>it just werks
>it even works in wine
fuck off retard
The company I work for still pays for this. With most medium to large companies it's either winzip or winrar, and it's the same case for other kinds of software. If it's free as in freedom or free beer, they won't go near the things.
I guess they think it's worthless if it doesn't cost anything, for some reason, or they want paid support in case of a fuckup.
I use AlZip because it's the only one that can open .egg archives. And I like the icon.
My only gripe with 7-zip (vs e.g. Winrar) is that it won't let me open images, text files in their default viewer (even Windows Picture Viewer) when double clicking them.
There's an open issue on this, it's linked to temp files being deleted way too early.
It's because of an autist who (rightfully) threw a tantrum because some confidential files weren't always properly removed from the temp folder.
Just use 7zip or peazip.
End of discussion.
Yo momma so fat,
that I'm concerned for her health.
She should see a doctor.
Just think about the grandchildren.
Where are my pkzip net citizens at.
Uuencoded, why you so bloated?
Whatever happened to tubgirl?
On the verge of going crazy.
On the edge of insane.
I know you thought I'd make it.
But I never pulled through.
I just gave up on living.
Like I gave up on you.
Don't you cry.
It's not your fault.
