OS X will never look this good.
Bloated garbage DE.
Literally anything else is better, like gnome 3

the new clock widgets are kinda cool though
Those icons are fucking terrible. Why are Konqueror and Kontact still 3D when everything else is flat? Why is the font so small? Why haven't widgets died yet?

LOL! Real slick
These are the types of oversights that make Linux suck. Nerds have terrible taste.

Fuck off and take your shitty, bloated, overwrought, designed-by-committee UI with you.
>>52583895
Kde looks like such garbage. If you're going to spend time ricing why not just go with xfce (or just wm if you wanna be hip). Gnome 3 just takes an icon pack to make it looks good.
>>52584208
those applications have not been updated yet, mostly because they are not used as much and thus not as many people develop on those applications.
Widgets are still a thing because it is easier and more consistent to have widgets than it is opening applications for stuff like showing the time, connecting to wifi...
Because they have to rewrite every widget, I assume they still think it is a good idea.
>2klox
>>52584311
kde has decided that everything should be easy to configure and thus everything is in configuration mode which might be what you refer to as "garbage".
>>52583087
Gnome3 is actually even worse, by a significant margin. Unity too for that matter.
>>52583021
Only shit that annoys me about KDE is that you can't remove the Settings button from the panel. Is there a way to manage that?

Plasma 5 is a piece of fucking shit.
DO NOT USE
It randomly breaks and then boots into black screen after logo. NOTHING I could find on any forums fixed it, even what KDE devs suggested didn't work.

Kubuntu is alright I guess, I wanted to install it on some unknowledgable relatives computers because it already has everything included and is easy to use, minimal configuration, etc...
Guess fucking not. It has completely broken on each one. I ended up just installing Linux Mint on it.

cant upgrade 2000 workstations on site just because people want to.
You use hardware until its no longer useful, then retire it.
Bob the employee really only needs a web browser to complete the work we assign him, and the 1024x768 works just fine for that
>>52588571
Corporate IT here as well.

Why does everything have to start with a K? What's with this badly done gaussian blur beneath everything? Why's it got to look like duplos and shit, like Windows?
>>52588893
They don't really do that anymore afaik. The older/original apps still have that trope but that's about it.
>>52588849
Rest in peace Oxygen.
>>52583021
That looks fucking awful.
KDE5 is uglier than a dog's asshole. It's an amateur's idea of "flat design".
Ubuntu is the only truly good looking stock distro with a GUI. It has Aero-tier glossyshit in its current release (although flat is coming soon), but it's the most professional looking, week designed DE out there.
>>52589333

>>52583021

>>52583021
Plasma 5 is actually pretty good, where Plasma 4 looked clunky and had serious composting issues resulting in awful performance. The main problem with KDE is that it pulls in like a hundred packages per meta package - E17 is better. I have to say though, I'm thoroughly impressed at how far a lot of the DEs have progressed over the years; they look almost competitive. Overall, X11 & xlib are outdated legacy cruft and need to be revamped and we'll see some better looking UIs around. tbqh familie, for both Wayland and X11 it should be tradition to run a lightweight WM of choice and a separate compositor, then use the same theme for themes for graphical toolkits if you are forced to have both of them in the same system.

they get angry when you point out 5+ year old bug reports. Gnome doesn't feel like a community, it feels like a closed room with 10 mason jar sippers with macbooks.

From my experience, Plasma 5 is very temperamental about what distro you run it on.
I hate modern UI design.

There's no decent DE.
