Okay, I'll start.
What happens if I buy a PSU that's not in logicalincrements' approved list of brands (like a CoolerMaster G-series, which costs literally half of the V-series)?

Maybe this is what confused me about phones with custom ROMs on them.
So if I update to the newest version of a ROM, it's best to do a wipe?
I was always hesitant to do this because I always assumed that wiping the phone would get rid of my root and ROM and pretty much make it factory default.
Or when you have a ROM on there, it's "Factory Default" setting is like a fresh ROM, and not the phone's original shit pre-ROM??

I understand backing up with Titanium Backup, I just don't want to lose my root access or other things I had to finely tune afterwards.

Basically what I'm saying is if I'm running a ROM (be it Cyanogenmod or AzureROM or something) and I do its "Factory Reset" option, am I pretty much wiping the ROM off the phone too? Or will it simply be a fresh, new ROM?

Hello /g/.
I'm wiring my headphone to F_Audio pins, and something is wrong.
When I connect ground to ground, left to left, right to right, sound is just not right.
When I put ground on left, both plays, and muting left does nothing. Both plays. And vice versa
Dummy question, but my head is not spinning anyway
Is it bad inside headset or something? I remember having loads of this situations, but it was very long ago, so yeah
Thanks in advance

you dont need more then 16gb unless you're doing audio work or video editing(production quality). They will bottleneck because they arent paired together(you want a quad channel kit)

The wifi signal at my sister's house is absolute ass. It drops constantly throughout (there are 3 floors), and the connection is slow as fuck (it feels like sub-5Mbps). The router is located on the ground floor in the corner of the lounge. What solutions are there to boost the signal that don't involve cables, and don't involve buying a second router (ideally keep the solution as small and unobtrusive as possible)? I wanted to install one of those signal boosting antennas, but the original antenna didn't seem to want to come out and I didn't want to damage it.

Theoretically and only that way - picrelated things.
For real, care less about how unobtrusive it is when you want reception. It's physics, not magic. Either you'll allow waves to reach and be reached or you're offline. Get a second router, wire it of course (you could use 2 radios router like mine, but you want not to feel the connection 5Mbps-like, right? It's about high ping that will slow everything down).

It'll be dual-channel, just like your current 2x8. Just make sure that each channel uses one 8GB and one 4GB module. The whole 24GB will be running on the lowest frequency of all your modules (i.e. if you mix 1600 and 1833 you'll end up with 1600 for the whole 24GB).

Git is a distributed versioning control system, meaning that there is no server-client structure.

You can use git local only, or you can distribute it across machines and use git push to push your current branch around.

What would cause this to happen and what do I have to do to fix it?
>>
>>52579896
The mobo will usually either force the slow ones to run at the faster speed (potential overheating/breakdown issues) or will slow the faster ones down to the speed of the slowest ones.

Just use the uefi/bios settings to set the ram clock to something they can both tolerate, and don't worry. You won't really see performance losses and if there are any it will be much less than 1%.

Most people won't see much of a gain in having more than 16gb ram either, so the plus monus moght balance itself out.

Hi, how you doing ?

I have a problem were in some games it seems out of sync, this happens mostly with timers (cooldowns, clock etc.) 'lagging' back and forth.

My character jumps around but even other characters in the game don't, it's very strange, here are some examples.

The example game isn't the only time it happens, it happens in other games too. I have no idea what would cause it, searches reveal nothing, any help would be appreciated

Alright, there's something I've been meaning to ask for sometime now:
I know what a VPN does, and how everyone on imageboards says that you should use a VPN regardless of your browsing habits,
but why exactly should I use a VPN?
And assuming that I AM going to be using one, how do I go about which VPN to choose?

This is the first time in 6 years I've built a PC. What is the CMOS, again?

I don't own other keyboards. I only have the one.

For what it's worth, all peripherals and the USB itself are plugged into the USB 2.0 jacks. The peripherals are clearly receiving power, because the lights are on.
>>
>>52582656
CMOS is basically the part that saves the BIOS data like for example if it should beep at you on boot or not. Usually there are two pins next to the internal battery that you have to shorten out with something or if that doesn't work just take the battery out. Last time I've had a USB problem I did that and it worked but I also remember going back to some very old PS/2 keyboards, not sure why I did that though. Good luck.

I have a 6700k with a NH D15 and it's regularly running at 38C, just idle. Is it possible that I mis under or overapplied the thermal paste? How would I fix that if that's the case? I put an admittedly not-the-most-even dab. Not a huge glob, but certainly a decent dab. like the size of a ball bearing, but more spread out.
>>
>>52582647
Just up the multiplier in the bios and you should be good as long as your cooling can hold up with the heat. usually you can easily add 0.3ghz without any problems.

There are ereaders that are supposedly easier on the eyes because of the screen they use. Because of this they are only black & white but then if you are reading a book on it you can read outside without glare and also it's supposed to be exactly the same as reading a real book.

There are color ereaders but I'm pretty sure the tech hasn't caught up so all you're getting is a limited tablet.

We are using an external JAR library which uses the default File API.

But trying to access to "C:\DOCUME~1\SIEMEN~1\BLUEPR~1\TATOEBA.BLU" throws a FileNotFoundException, changing the value in the debugger to "C:¥DOCUME~1¥SIEMEN~1¥BLUEPR~1¥TATOEBA.BLU" works.

Because we have no access to the source of the external library, we have to override File.separator. How can we do this?

I'm assuming I don't have to tell you trying to connect on a server in another country and/or shitty internet can result in high ping, but just checking.
>>
>>52585953
You can tunnel your phone's connection through VPN, as well. As such, you could torrent through your phone's NAT or even directly torrent on your phone. However, I'm assuming you have a data cap on your phone's mobile internet plan.

If I were in your cause, I'd just rent a torrentbox and download your torrented data at university/library/school/whatever with a decent internet connection.

>>52586032
>but would it make my general connections more stable than usual?

No. VPN has nothing to do with your connection's stability. If you have issues with your internet connection, a VPN cannot help you as it relies on that connection as well. That's something you have to remedy with the help of your ISP.

Been in the last few threads and I'm still stuck... Got new SSD. Bios detects it. Linux detects it. Windows does not. Checked the disk manager and device manager, checked diskpart, nothing. Reformatted it a few times, nothing. Put linux on it, works fine. Swapped sata cables/ports, updated drivers, downloaded programs, nothing. I was going to put windows on the drive but even the installer doesn't detect it... Wtf do?
>>
>>52586302
My guess is that curl creates a subprocess, which then get exited/removed properly. You can check my assumption with the 'ps' or 'prgep' command.
>>
>>52586138
You should call your ISP. How much speed do you get exactly? You could also see if...

If you live with others, are they connected too? Are they streaming, playing games, torrenting? Are you torrenting something? If on steam, make sure it's not trying to download/update a game.(normally stops itself anyways). Go on speedtest if you haven't already, and see what results you get. I've heard antennas can kind of hinder sometimes, so try to unplug them to see if anything changes. Make sure you aren't just connecting with BRs or into BR while playing on a server.

But assuming you've done all this, the last thing to do is to call your ISP and start yelling at them. Maybe they really hate games and are throttling them.

My computer is out of commission.

While I'm figuring that out can I take my HDD from that computer, stick it in another computer, download the necessary drivers and use it like normal?

Yes.

!!!
>>
>>52586306
I kind of use puush for this reason. Does all of that, but you have to set up for the program to save screenshots locally. That way you can have a screenshot saved to your computer, and automatically uploaded somewhere for easy show.
>>
>>52586069
>>52586126
>>52586174
I'd like to know if this is normal and if I should try buying a new battery. I can't really have this on the charger all the time. I need to be able to unplug it and carry it around.

I know, but I keep seeing those lists (wich could just be shills or programs that the writer didn't even try and just made the article without knowing), or the websites of the maker themselves.

I thought that asking /g/ would get me some advice from people who actually use them.

>>52586509
Thanks I'll keep it in mind.
>>
>>52586523
Batteries causing 20c additional heat is unheard of. I seriously think there's some malfunction with the laptop itself. I would run some diagnostics, some battery health tool.
>>
>>52586556
but it's just as likely I could be shilling also IIRC puush had a rogue update a while ago that was malware
>>
>>52584995
The platform is Windows 98, the DOS filenames are hard-coded in the program and I don't want to change them. The file does exist and as I already told, I have to change the value of File.separator from 0x5C00 to 0xA500 (I did so in JDB). Maybe this is a bug in the third-party library.
>>
>>52586586
Eh... still safer than some for-profit website.
Also I would of course look it up before downloading.

Rereading my first sentence I realise that it's kind of weird thinking that anything on 4chan could be the safer option lol, but whatever...
>>
>>52586556
It also has some setting that has it save images as jpgs sometimes depending on how large the image is.

Button combo for capture area is crtl+shift+4 on default, but you can change that.
>>
>>52586678
Thank you Anon, but are you talking about puush or greenshot?
>>
So I installed Windows 7 using the gigabyte usb 3.0 patcher utility. Now that I have Windows running, it still won't recognise USB 3.0 for some reason, nor the 2.0 ports on the back of the computer.

This means I can't install any of the drivers that I put on a usb flash drive. I can't even access the fucking internet because of the goddamn lan drivers not being installed,.
>>
>>52586560
What kind of diagnostics? I can do the battery health tool, as I'm sure both are bad anyways. They only last for an hour or so, even on power saver.

I'll buy a can of air to see if I can't clean it out some more, but doubt that will do much.

Almost positive it's the battery itself though. It's only done this while one of them is in.

Might need to see how it runs with a Linux distro too.
>>
>>52586697
Talking about puush, no idea how greenshot works.

If you plan on sharing screenshots anyways, go with puush since it uploads them. Then again, greenshot might also do the same.

You can upload other images and files through puush also.

fuckin hard drive is finally failing, literally overnight it went from totally ok to literally 70% of my data fucked and needs to be chkdsk'd. problem is chkdsk just fuckin stops when it runs into a fucked up sector, which is like 10% of the way through and will just quit and not go any further. how can i make it keep going so i can recover at least some files?

Bought a 960 a couple months ago want more power.

Do I?

second 960 and SLI? (like 200 bucks)

R9 Nano and sell the 960 to my friend who has an OLD 450GTS for like $100. (like 400 bucks)

Spend roughly the R9 Budget on CPU and MoBo.

use a different browser/user agent, spoof your referrer. you can spoof the referrer and the user agent with umatrix, but i've found that switching browsers gives you a more consistent result. i now use opera to post on 4chan instead of firefox and i get numbers 9 out of 10 times
>>
>>52586811
Oh ok, thanks.

I only need it for when I have to take multiple screenshots quickly and can't press stamp, then paste in paint, and save every time, so something that does it automatically so I can then edit the images individually as I need them.
I won't upload them anywhere, like that. I will always do those things manually because I'm too autistic and paranoid lol

Mom's macbook air POSTs and boots to blank grey screen. Tried SMC and PRAM resets, and attempting to boot from recovery or internet recovery do nothing. She's outside of warranty, 3000 miles from me, and 200 miles to the nearest apple store.

What's the next step? Have her track down someone else with a mac and try to make a bootable usb recovery stick?

Macs won't boot the tried-and-true linux live usb without alterations that require a mac.

I'm guessing the SSD is hosed. Cut my losses and just get it the service provider?

Yes. For gmod I only play in a single private server and until this new pc I never had problems with it, but now the ping is well, you know. As far as it's location I was never sure and the owner is offline, for Dota, US East.

Coming into the discussion late but you have already provided enough proof to show it is not your problem. Your ISP has some fucked up routing configuration.

How to fix:
>call ISP
>tell them you are having issues and to properly track you will be writing down and recording the conversation
>you don't need to actually record but DO write down the name of the person helping you and a call back number if you can get one.
>explain that when trying to connect to <insert whatever> servers you experience a severe drop in connection speed and a spike in ping.
>they will say "okay well lets try some diagnostic shit"
>you have fun for an hour doing mind numbing tasks and it doesn't help at all
>after they have exhausted everything say you would like to escalate this to tier 2
>say "I would like a tracking number for this issue as well as a call back number that will not route me through the automated system."
>call back every day and request a status update and after 5 days request another additional escalation
>after probably a week or two of this you should now know the exact reason or have the issue fixed.

Or I could be totally wrong and its just the shitty server you are trying to connect to. What do I know?
>>
Is it possible under windows 2012 r2 to replace drives for bigger ones one by one from a striped mirror?
>>
>>52588109

It's possible it might be the server cause others show normal ping. But why out of the blue like this? It was fine yesterday. Seems a little too coincidental I'd build a PC and the server shits itself for just me. Everyone else currently connected is fine.

Alright so I think I fucked up
I have a blue yeti mic, pic related is the cable. It's been plugged in for more than a few weeks no problem, however today while I was downloading Visual studio it caused a USB power surge, giving me a notification. Now when it's plugged in it somehow turns off my keyboard and my mouse.
I know the USB is fine, as I tested it, but I don't know if the cable is fried or the mic itself.
