Definitely 10. I installed it when it first came out; then downgraded to Windows 7 because some of the vidya I had didn't work correctly, but enough time has passed since then, so you definitely should go with Windows 10. Besides, Windows 7 is twice as slow as Windows 8 ad Windows 10.

Windows 10 for the new powershell modules alone.

You can pretty much do any task now in it intuitively. It's pre built with all your Unix aliases so you can cat and grep to your hearts content. If you're still using a gui, you're an idiot who deserves to see Windows 7 wither and die before your eyes.

PC starts up at 3AM to install updates you don't want and you can't use your computer for the next 12 hours.

That's my only problem with 10 (the rest are hardware problems), so other than it's acceptable.

I'd much rather use 7, though, looks nicer, tends to run faster (even on dinosaurs), ability to turn automatic updates off (underrated feature), plenty of support for old applications.

>>
>>52568802
>inb4 I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

10, particularly if your new rig is Skylake.

Mainstream support for Windows 7 (SP1) ended over a year ago already. It's on extended life support now.

Moreover, 7 and 8.1 won't get any µcode updates or any new platform hardware updates at all, which means (let me spell this out) they might not get the AVX2 freezing fix, and won't get whatever errata fixed that turn up after that.

Privacy concerns? Reasonable: with express settings and by default, it does some things that are normally associated with phone OSes rather than desktop ones: with the beta "Insider" builds it uses a "Full" level of telemetry (higher than on the release builds) which does collect a lot of info, more than people are used to from external testing: hence the T&Cs for that.

Fix 10: Don't do an express install, but customise; log in with a local account (not a Microsoft account); no, you probably don't want it to collect your keystrokes for autocorrect if your device has a keyboard; turn the telemetry in Settings > Privacy > Feedback & Diagnostics to Basic. Then it's pretty much like all previous builds of Windows going back to, say, XP.

And you might want a start menu replacement. It's back, but it's just not quite what it was.

Unsupported? Since when did that become a bad thing? When an OS becomes unsupported, people stop using it, so people stop keeping the systems around and or keeping personal information on them. People stop making viruses for them.

>Privacy concerns?
