Theres an asus one on newegg flash on sale for 500. 144hz too. Seems nice
>>
>>52561255
I got a QNIX monitor for about $200 on a Newegg sale once. I could never OC it to over 60 Hz, but even at 60 and 1440p it's a great monitor.
>tfw I can't get more than 55 Hz on Witcher 3 with a 980 Ti most of the time
>>
>>52562871
Got that one, absolute nightmare on older GPU's. Displayport is out of the question, HDMI works with occassional blank screens for a second.
>>
>>52562998
Dang. Do you think thats just your monitor or a problem with the whole lot?
>>
>>52563124
I think any new monitor will have problems.
The GPU in question is a GT570m so it's kind of a piece of shit, but not old enough to have these kinds of problems. But shit moves fast I guess.

just buy a 4k you fucking poorfag idiot

Yeah but even with a 980 Ti, on most new games you will only get 30-45 fps.

then downscale to 2560*1440 until you can afford a sli/cf rig

im just saying this because after getting my 4k shit i aint ever going back to the ancient ppi thats almost the same as the fucking 90s!

Stop falling for memes, 1080p is all you will ever need for muh gaymen.
>>
>>52565009
But, why have 1080p when you can have 1440p, and hardware that's in rich to push those extra pixels? Looks a lot sharper, and great for general computer usage.
>>
>>52562716
This. I got one recently, and its absolutely fantastic.
>>
>>52562879
I picked up a qnix a few months ago. Been enjoying 1440p a lot. Great price point.

I had to open the panel and tighten a cable bumped loose in shipping - has worked flawlessly since.
>>
>>52563568
IBM T221 is an amazing monitor. You can get them for sub-200 total after shipping from japan.

Hard to set up, but once you do its great.
>>
Is a 144hz 1440p monitor really worth it? I mean idk if i can even drive 144hz in anything. What graphics card would i need to be able to take advantage of that
>>
>>52565423
1440p at 60 fps is just starting to get decent single card support. If you want 144fps you would need 2 top tier cards (like 980s etc). Even then some games may still not hit 144fps.
>>
>>52565939
So a single 390x isnt going to touch 144hz huh?
>>
>>52565996
It depends on the game and settings. That is a pretty good card. Look up benchmarks for the specific games you play at that resolution. I'm sure it could do 144hz in some stuff but not everything.
>>
>>52565222
You fucking with me? A thick monitor from 2003?

If you're not trolling, where do you buy these?
>>
>>52562569
Animation picks up around the 20th episode or so
>>
>>52565996
Not in newer games without turning settings quite a bit down. For instance in the witcher 3 a 390x gets 41 fps at
>1440p
>DX11
>Ultra mode
> AA enabled
>16x AF enabled
>SSAO enabled
>Nvidia hairworks OFF
>Other settings ON
But you could probably reach 60 pretty easily if you turn down AA and a few eyecandy effects filed under other. This goes double for older games where you could probably reach those higher frame rates without missing much.

120/144hz 4k monitors are going to be a thing in ~2 years but they won't be playable with a sane rig for quite a while. If you want a middle ground between resolution and refresh rate it's a good option.

tl;dr: maybe

yahoo auctions japan. And no I'm not. Ask me anything about it. I have one and can post pictures. You can use a service called FromJapan to do it.

Its got poor contrast (400:1), is only 48hz, but has absolutely excellent colors and can be overclocked to run higher frequencies.

Its 10bit, 4k, 16:10, IPS and high dpi. For work its an amazing monitor

It has very good linearity and accuracy across all brightness values and is pretty much calibrated out of the box. the DG5 has a guaranteed delta e of <1 out of box. There are hardly any monitors out there with that.

Also the contrast really doesn't hurt colors that much in light. It does however make it bad if you can't handle IPS glow, which this has. I calculated my Lmin at I think .28 nits at 100 nits white.
>>
>>52562879

yeah buy Korean. idk about qnix, cheap but PWN may be a dealbreaker. With a new DVI cable, my Crossover 2795 reaches 108hz, 0 dead pixels, no noticeable backlight bleed... not bad at all for under $300.

I hadn't realized these monitors can be easily gotten. I always figured they were rare and expensive.

How high can you OC the refresh rate?

I doubt I'd use it for gaming, but having that kind of screen estate might be cool, a bit hesitant about the actual screen size however.
>>
>>52568356
I OC'd mine to 60 without artifacting and frame dropping, but some people say they can't get theirs above 55.

They can be gotten easily because they're big in japan. Its mostly how hard it is to set them up that turns people away. They run pretty flawlessly off the dual-link DVI to LFH-60 adapters you get from japan. (if you get them, make sure to get type A1).
>>
>>52568414
I take it you'd reccomend this monitor over 2560x1440

What do you mean that it's hard to set up? Looking at the services now and it seems like adapters are included.
>>
>>52568432
I would. The adapters there are 1 adapter that is LFH-60 to two single-link DVI. You need 4 single-link DVI to run it fully or two dual-link DVI.

They are hard to set up because to each single link dvi port off the default adapters, it shows as 3840x2400 monitors, so when you try to run them in surround or mosaic (I use nvidia) it shows up as 15360x2400 instead of 3840x2400. The dual link DVI adapters in type A1 come with EDID overrides so it shows up as each dual link DVI as 1920x2400 and you use surround to create a workspace of 3840x2400.

If you wanted to use the default, you'd have to track down LFH-60 to Sl-DVI adapters, and set up each SL-DVI to output 960x2400 stripes then use surround or mosaic to do it as 3840x2400
>>
>>52568544
...I see. Would it be possible for me to use only 1 port and a second for my current monitor?

I cant reasonably think of anything I'd do with it other than have all of my chat and text programs on 1 screen with video/vidya related on my current monitor.
>>
>>52568821
And on that note, how difficult is it to actually read text on it? I still have decent eyes but if its just too damn small then I dont see any reason other than coolness factor.
>>
>>52568111
Got that problem yeah, then switched to a good quality display. That not working properly I blame on the GPU, then switched to quality HDMI, get blank screens when occasionally when the screen has to change a lot of pixels. Seems like there's some incompatibility.
>>
>>52562569
You shut your whore mouth. That's virtually the only anime that isn't for edgy teens, degenerate pedos or basement dwelling man children.
>>
>>52568864
you can run the monitor off one port, single link at 13hz native or 20hz if you set a custom resolution.

Text is tiny but super sharp, I'll post some pictures in a few minutes. Just getting my phone.
>>
>>52568821
>>52568864
also off 1 sl-dvi you can run 1920x1200@60hz so there's that. It scales well because its just divided by two each way.
>>
>>52569030
Well, it seems like it'd be silly to change the resolution to anything other than a direct division of resolution.

Then it'd be silly to have that resolution on that monitor, granted it'd fit really well. But I may as well just get a larger monitor at 2560x1440 at that point.

each step is a millimeter. Yeah, its not too unreasonable. But for general use I just GPU scaled everything to 2x because I didn't need the real estate. It just makes everything look sharper but everything is normal sized.

For programming and schoolwork, I leave it unscaled and have tons of pages open at once.

To me, if you want to program, get this monitor. If you want to edit sRGB photos, get this monitor. If you want to game, don't. If you need wide-gamut, don't. Its just a great monitor for work, and not too bad for movies if you can handle IPS glow (because movies are shot at 24 so no judder) but not for a lot of people's uses.

Its pretty much a workstation monitor. Here's testufo on it showing ghosting.
>>
>>52569558
I dont do a whole lot of those.

Like I mentioned, I'd be using it mainly for browsing and probably have a half dozen of my programs open on it while saving my current monitor for anything I want more than 12hz for.
>>
>>52569754
then its great for that. I'd recommend it.
>>
>>52569821
Well I'll give it a shot, they're surprisingly cheap.

That refresh rate though.
>>
>>52570433
I don't know. Its way more expensive than I got mine for. I got two cables for less than that price. I'd wait for the price to come down.

Its because it does the EDID overrides for you and is a dual link. The monitor comes with a splitter that can run it 3840x2400@20hz off each SL-DVI. If that's fine you don't need more.

For you to get full 48hz at full res, you need to get another splitter cable, and that means you need 4 empty dvi ports in your card. I highly doubt you have that if this is your second monitor.

But as you said, if you only need 13hz, then just one single link DVI from the splitter that comes with it will work just fine.
>>
>>52570572
Well if I can run it in full resolution with the cables they send me that should be fine.

I'll look into getting that insanely expensive cable, or find a variant somewhere else if I can otherwise.

But I'm getting the feeling I'll need to get some sort of special cable anyway?
>>
>>52570648
Nah, no special cables needed other than that. And if you just use one single link, then you don't need any fancy setup. It just werks.
