I'll be honest with you, I barely use applications via the program list in start menu.
All my most used applications are pinned to the task bar or are in the system tray and start automatically.
The utilities and such I use less often I pin as a tile on the start menu.

Yes, staying on 7 is not a long term solution. If you aren't happy with the direction that Microsoft is taking Windows its time to start thinking seriously about alternatives from other sources. The sooner you switch the less painful the Windows 7 EOL will be.

I'm sure W10 has many under the hood improvements and the changes to explorer, the task manager and file transfers are nice.

On the flipside you have the shitty start menu, worthless Cortana, two control panels and a mobile UI badly mixed with a more classical desktop one.

I can get over the superficial UI annoyances and added bloat but what really tickles my autism is how you can't disable Defender, telemetry or micro manage Windows Updates. At least not without jumping through hoops and wondering every day whether your settings have been reset. I'm really surprised Microsoft hasn't backpaddled on this bullshit yet.

Don't be surprised, this is Microsoft's new direction for the company and they are not going to change that direction any time soon. There will never be a new version of Windows that fixes these problems because Microsoft doesn't see them as problems and sees no point to asking users to adopt a new version that might be rejected when they can just force updates instead.
