Everyone I know has told me they're synonymous with getting you computer fucked up by malicious shit, but a lot of people on here swear by them. Can someone tell me the cons and pros of torrents?
>>
torrent music/movies only, no software no viruses
>>
OK it's really simple anon

If you are technologically retarded, don't do it
If you are not technologically retarded, you are not asking this question

Good luck on your travels on the magnificent interwebs
>>
I've never had an issue. Just dont be a stupid shit about it and you'll be fine.
>>
Putting it bluntly: >>52535129

If you want to avoid viruses, stay away from pirated software or really any executable.

If you want to avoid letters from your ISP, stay away from anything released in the last year or so.

Not rocket science.

>Can someone tell me the cons and pros of torrents?

Pros:
>Ease of Access
>Can be higher quality than legal sources (e.g. FLAC audio)
>Lack of cost
>faster downloads if there are a lot of seeders
>community driven
>high quality torrents from trusted uploaders
>variety of media available
>can access content which may be region locked.

Cons:
>Untrusted torrents may contain malware
>some torrents of poor quality
>potentially illegal if you are downloading copyrighted media
>lack of featured (e.g. no multiplayer games)
>some media hard to use/access (applying cracks, modifying system files etc)
>media may not be up to date (older patch versions etc)

Anything i missed?

bittorrent is just a protocol of transferring files.
its as stupid as blaming FTP for viruses.

As a protocol torrents are great for popular stuff since speeds will be great
They are no so good in old materials /obscure stuff because there are so few seeds out there.

Sure you can fire up a torrent of spectre and be downloading at 10mbytes/sec
or you could be downloading some obscure/old art book and be waiting on that lone seeder on his dial up connection to finish downloading it.

>>Untrusted torrents may contain malware
So can anything. OP's question is fucking retarded.
The content you download with the help of a torrent file can be literally anything.
And you're just as retarded for trying (and failing) to answer it.

They must get their computers fucked up with FTP downloads too

None of these are problems with the BitTorrent protocol They're all just the issues with which files people share. You have the exact same problem with every other mode of file transfer.

The only downside to torrenting is that it requires another person to be actively uploading for you to download, and some would not even consider that a problem.

This OP is all you need to know.

Anime and games soundtracks are safe and they should be the only things you'd ever want to download.

Use uTorrent 2.2.1 which is the best version and the only one you'll ever need:
http://www.oldapps.com/utorrent.php?old_utorrent=38

You can try Transmission-Qt as open source free alternative to uTorrent, or qBittorrent but personally I don't recommend this one (bad personal experience)

>tfw it took 2 months to download a collection of gay wrestling pornos from some obscure korean seeder
Not gay, but let me tell ya, it was well worth the trouble.
>>
What if I use only private trackers?
>>
>>52535839
maybe there should be an option in torrents that will let them expire after a certain day/time elapsed if there are no seeds or peers.
Feels like torrents have no garbage collection, they just exist forever.
>>
>>52535086
You're basically retarded if you manage to get a virus using torrents. Not to suggest I'm downloading tons of shit, or anything, but I can't recall a single time I ever downloaded malware, and all I did was use pretty basic common sense
>>
>>52535086
i hear you can get viruses from websites

why do we use websites again?
>>
>>52535881
Pretty much this. Mostly people get them from keygens. Stay off TPB and KAT
>>
>>52535912
Honestly you don't even need to stay off of TPB/kat either. Those are literally the only torrent sites I have /ever/ used. Plain ass, basic ass common sense is all you need.
>>
>>52535957
Meh, that should be common since. But my huge problem in those sites were lack of quality control.
>>
>>52535979
Never had an issue. They always have too bitch quality and lots of good discussions on KAT in the comments section tells you if it's actually worth/safe to download.
>>
>>52535912
Games. Most kids fall prey upon newly released "cracked" games torrents, and not to mention the obscureVN.exe's that rape them in the butt for coins.
