>this sudden influx of irrational Linux hate threads right when Windows 10 is flopping harder than a fish out of water
Still convinced Microsoft doesn't have viral marketers here?
Windows 10 is almost the most used desktop OS on the planet. It's definitely failing and Linux with its <1% market share is definitely where Microsoft is turning its attention to attack.
>most used desktop OS on the planet
That would be 7 followed by XP
>less than 1% market share
If you count ChromeOS, which you should since it's fucking Gentoo with full screen Chrome and a couple of custom scripts, Linux is at 4%.
Chrome OS is about 2%, with regular GNU/Linux at 2% as well. Expect to see those numbers spike in the next few years as iOS and Android get proper desktop modes and normies flee to them.
You get downvote brigades on Reddit if you advocate using Linux, and baby ducks will shriek and xry and whine until you get banned. This is a problem since Reddit is where people marginally more competent than Facebook sheeple tend to gather.
Windows 10 is shit and all reviews are paid
I can't believe this fucking shit I'm seeing right now. Stellar reviews all over the place for something that is LITERALLY, and by that I mean LITERALLY, LITERALLY the same shit as 8.1 except with a shitty meme start menu, different but still shitty phone tier unusable meme apps, and shitty meme assistant Cortana that mines your useless normie data. Oh, and a fucking ripoff of Expose from 5 year's ago Mac OS but with worse animations.
That wouldn't be all that bad but it is missing many features from Windows 8, most important one being COLORFUL TITLE BARS. Now everything is so white it will burn your retinas off, this is fucking ridiculous, you could always change that color in Vista, 7 and 8 but now you can't anymore because fuck you. You can't even change icon spacing for the desktop or pin shit to the left side of the start menu, if you disable recent apps it just shows empty space... WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU NEED THAT WHEN YOU CAN PIN TILES TO THE RIGHT HOLY SHIT EVERYONE IS GOING TO PIN HIS FAVOURITE APPS THERE GOD FUCKING DAMN IT I'M SO FUCKING TRIGGERED RIGHT NOW. And finally it's still full of fucking duplicated apps/programs like the new shitty settings, inconsistent icons, rough animations, shit's that early as fuck (Edge, are you kidding me with this shit? Literally IE but slightly faster in some shill benchmark and MS Paint built in because that's what everyone wants right? Being able to scribble shit on web pages, what's the fucking point?).
TL;DR I am surrounded by shills how do I stop this?
By the way I'm seriously considering switching to Linux or Mac, this shit is the last straw I'm so fucking done with this shit tier pleb os.
Fug I gotta find some new pasta now for w10 threads.
>By default, when signing into Windows with a Microsoft account, Windows syncs some of your settings and data with Microsoft servers, for example “web browser history, favorites, and websites you have open” as well as “saved app, website, mobile hotspot, and Wi-Fi network names and passwords”.

The company appears to be granting itself the right to share your data either with your consent “or as necessary”.
Oh I've primarily used Debian for a decade, anon. I'm just counter-shilling.
>Still convinced Microsoft doesn't have viral marketers here?
I know /v/ traffic is enough to justify the cost of turfing but I doubt /g/ traffic reaches the minimum levels to justify costs.
Like where? I understand our world is built around privacy violations but you shouldn't have to fight your own goddamn OS.
You're too young to fully grasp what an OS is supposed to do for you though, so I understand your frustration. Just remember that an OS is supposed to serve the user, not the government/corporation that sold it.
Linux is cool but OS wars are not new here. I like and use Windows 10 but there are some seriously fucked up things about it.
>By default, when signing into Windows with a Microsoft account, Windows syncs some of your settings and data with Microsoft servers
That's what I would expect, and why you shouldn't do that. Windows 8 tried to force you to use a online account and 10 is less forceful about that.
Very few boards have EVER had paid shills. There are more likely suspects on /g/ anyway, like the ebay used thinkpad sellers. It seemed like it was happening on /k/ with people making threads about RIP rounds (silly fragmenting handgun ammo), the HK VP9 (overpriced striker fired pistol), and the Sebenza (overpriced folding knife). The latter two were endlessly reposted in every thread by the same namefag and he even got /b/ to spam it all over /k/ once. /g/ doesn't deal with that kind of shit.
>you now realize that windows 10 only reached this state by being free ($), forcing itself unto users and extensive advertisement campaigns
>you now realize that it was all for naught and it's barely more used than 8.1
Praise Saint Nutella, he did it the madman! He killed microsoft!
The win10 launch is like the biggest failure in computing history. MS has been begging, pleading, insisting, and coercing with maximum force for over a year now and the adoption rate is, what, 15%?
OP here, my employer uses Google Apps and our desktops are a mixture of Win7, Win8.1, OS X, and Linux. Our sysadmin department would probably switch over to Linux entirely if Veeam and vCenter worked on Linux.
Notice how this sort of insane backlash against upgrades is unique to the Windows world, because the users understand that MS will routinely fuck their computer sideways in the process.
> By the way I'm seriously considering switching to Linux or Mac, this shit is the last straw I'm so fucking done with this shit tier pleb os.
W10 was also the trigger that made me use Linux. I don't regret it even a bit.
Oh my fucking God, that shit was killing me. I loved the W10 pre-release when I ran it in a VM. Then on one build they switched to the shitty all-white titlebars. I hated every moment of it.
I'm still waiting to hear that they fixed this bug:
(summary: at least with a Sound Blaster USB setup, the system maxes out the "System Sounds" slider every time it plays any system sound, like a UAC prompt notification. Fucking aggravating, and required manual intervention after every single reboot)
The best part about this thread is it isn't even grounded in reality, windows 10 has a faster and larger adoption by total users and percent than any other version of windows.
Obviously free helps but if people hated it so much they would tell everyone they know not to upgrade and that just isn't happening.
> irrelevancy of the desktop
I hear this a lot. How exactly are Desktops/Laptops becoming irrelevant? They're still incredibly widely used and no good alternative has made an appearance.
> Phones and Tablets
> Replacing desktop for any of the work I do
I don't know what SaaS is, but the idea of doing all of my computer work on a phone or tablet is fucking laughable.
Why would I use something with bullshit I/O that takes forever to navigate and I can't modify at all?
> Tell everyone not to upgrade
> Implying Microshaft has it set up so the average user has a choice
They've been making it harder and harder to refuse, and pretty soon they're going to straight force it down their throats.
They literally download the update files in the background, with no indication of what they're doing.
Yes, at Microsoft right now they're focused their astroturfing efforts on fucking 4chan. You crack the code Sherlock.
To me, Windows is for games only. I dual boot with Debian, and I only play games for maybe 2-3 hours/week max. For someone who plays more frequently, I can see how dual booting would be a hassle.
>and how the calculator doesn't even return correct results
Requesting proofs on this, it sound too good to be true.
The calculator works by doing the calculations you input.
It is essentially (5-3)/3 since you do the subtraction first. Of course some calculator apps will do it differently, the stock Android one does the operations in the "correct" order so you can get all those Kikebook quiz images right.
People complaining about Linux is a good thing.
Windows 10 has alienated a portion of the windows user base, and they're looking for alernatives.
More people are trying Linux and giving it attention.
Linux, in general, is hard if you have never dealt with it before, and /g/ shits on Ubuntu so they don't try it first.
Ubuntu is the only PnP whole GUI distro I have ever used, and is really the best option for those coming from windows. Even mint has a ton of issues that need to be fixed from a command line.
This. /g/ NEEDS to stop shitting on Ubuntu just because it's popular and they're contrarians.
Use your special snowflake DE on arch and send normies to Ubuntu. With unity. It's the only one that had enough effort put into it to work ootb
There are definitely FUD threads, but inside random threads you'll get random assholes suggesting mint or fedora or Debian stable like it's better becuase Ubuntu with unity is spyware OS for normies, and nobody wants to be a normie, do they?
Feynman (among many others) consider 3/4*5 to mean 3/(4*5), 3*4/5 to mean 3*(4/5), etc, i.e. / division (and also implicit multiplication) having higher priority over other forms of division (and multiplication). There is no valid order for these, 3/4*3 can be interpreted in both ways equally validly, but they chose the convention that makes sense and isn't retarded.
Maybe I'm just dumb, but 3 * 1/4 * 5 makes much more sense in general to me.
We have notation for in line fractions that works in every published medium except lazy forum software. Let's take advantage of it and take more care on the lazy forums to be clear.
You are wrong, senpai. Three-fourths times five(your first example) is explicitly defined as (3*5)/4 = 15/4. Ask ANY mathematician TA friend you have. Every single STEM professor and TA will give you the same exact answer, which is 15/4.
>it's an interpretation by some physics books which include Feynmann
I'm still correct, senpai. Go ahead and tell your Mathematics professor how Feynmann let's you fuck your shit up. When in Rome...
Slap on Windows 98 theme and its the most functional and aesthetically pleasing browser ive ever witnessed.
Anon is sort of right, Chrome OS is becoming a big platform.
Again my employer has "Gone Google" and the ROI is pretty impressive. Windows clients have been doing off for some time and just get replaced with Chrome devices because they just weerrrrk.
>Just remember that an OS is supposed to serve the user, not the government/corporation that sold it.
Funny hearing that from timesink os where things doesnt work and you need to write and so some obscure shit through command like when you are supposed to have working system, linux is free if your time is nothing of value to you. No professional programs either.
Remember the os is supposed to serve the user not the user to serve the os with fixing it all the time, fucking linux losers should be eradicated
Friedly reminder that Microsoft could be planning a possible takeover on Linux thanks to systemD homogenizing Linux and the constant use of BSD license that allows privative software being built atop which strangles the open source community competition against takeovers from corporations ("embrace, extend, extinguish" all over).
>picture related, is their propaganda
>Windows 10 is almost the most used desktop OS on the planet
I don't think so, Jim.
Linux has always been an awful desktop OS and nothing has changed. There's a reason why it's market share is so ridiculously small that nobody even bothers to develop software for it - it's shit. Really it's for shut-in autists only who have nothing better to do than fiddle with their distro.
Not as much as phones and tablets
>doing all of my computer work on a phone or tablet is fucking laughable
becaus enot many people use computer to work
>I use something with bullshit I/O that takes forever to navigate
others find it more comfy
>I can't modify at all
I use Linux but I also make a lot of Linux hate threads because I enjoy seeing all the autists defending their beloved penguin. Also I want to make Windows users look dumb by most of my threads being about problems that can be solved easily.
So if I could do it,I am pretty sure many such threads are made by people like myself.
I don't understand this meme at all.Only timesink Linux I know is Arch and everything else works out of box for Ubuntu.I had to search for my soundcard drivers for Windows but Ubuntu was a matter of plug and play.
>Still convinced Microsoft doesn't have viral marketers here?
Both amateur and professional.
"Around 2007, Microsoft realised tech sites like Slashdot had a significant involvement in the very public rejection of Vista as a replacement for XP. They hired several reputation management companies, including Waggener Edstrom and Burson Marsteller to manage their online presence before the W7 release.
One of the results of that was that the reputation mangers ran hundreds of sock-puppets in blogs and news aggregators, like Slashdot and Reddit. They swamped the discussions, including those unrelated to their OS with scripted comments based on a few themes - "Have you tried it yet?" "Much faster than XP" etc etc. There was no opportunity to discuss Linux/FOSS or any other non-proprietary effort without wading through dozens of highly moderated pro-Win 7 postings. Pretty much every first post was a Microsoft-favorable pamphlet."
And we all know about the MS fanbois, right?
>I use windows for lan sharing because samba doesn't like to just werk
Try using a dumbed-down GUI program such as pic and code related. Works great for me, and I if something doesn't work, the ArchWiki page is comprehensive enough.system-config-samba 1.2.100-1
