>Free upgrade
Free (as in beer, not freedom) to upgrade until a year after launch, enjoy paying when you have to do a fresh install or after July 2016.

>Faster performance
I've had better experience with Win7, and marginally with Win8.1

>Better security
Sure, if you actually use an antivirus, and only true in the first place because of "security" updates being installed now or later.

>More features
Could you fucking LIST some?

>Start menu is back
Sure, but its not the same one as on windows XP/Vista/7. The Win10 start menu is a 9x start menu with some tiles attached to it.

>Supported for life
Not guaranteed, due to Win10 being closed-source (meaning nobody outside of MS will be able to fix something), running on the slowly but surely aging x86 hardware, and the eventual demise of Win10, Windows, or Microsoft as a whole.

>Constantly updated and improved
Updated: only true because of "security" updates being shoved down your throat.
Improved: that's purely objective

>What is there not to like about it, /g/?

Gotta love /g/ cognitive dissonance:

Loonix thread, anon pointing out that doing something simple in freetard software takes xxx steps, or (to keep up with current news) that there's a gaping security hole:
>"YOU FUCKING RETARD YOU ONLY NEED TO *cue 10 command lines that worksonmymachine* §"
>"being this dumb, not being able to sudo apt-get bloobliboop"
>"non-issue micro$oft shill! Loonix users will just apply just patch that will be released in an hour!"

W10 thread, freetards being obnoxious about muh telemetry and ads, anon reasonably pointing out it takes 3 options and five minutes to deactivate for good:
>"kek, micro$oft shills defending this!"
>"having to take a minute to deactivate ads lol"
>more RMS-licensed nonsense.

So in one case it's perfectly understandable that it takes a fair amount of time/effort to do something basic and it's basically hypocrisy to point it out and in the other it's just you being a lazy, stupid proprietary software shill. Okeydoke :^)

>Botnet
Windows is definitely invasive, but it's not a botnet. A botnet is a client/server model with malicious intent. Clients get infected, typically without consent of the owner or him being aware thereof, which are called zombies and in turn infected other machines while awaiting commands from the command & control server. This is fundamentally different from you choosing such an invasive OS, because you *chose* it, and not something else you're infected by.

Saying X is botnet is just another meme you fell for here. Id est, you should've fucking known better, anon.

>>
>>52515972
Windows 10 disrespects privacy in a way previous versions didn't (and still don't, given you know what updates to install and what not to)
>>
>>52523938
Isn't that what it technically is? The forced updates makes your pc constantly check back to microsoft's servers for new code to install and run, with no way to disable this short of disabling all network adapters. In addition, microsoft uses your computer and your bandwidth to perform tasks like serving updates to others and grabbing up your personal information. They also use adware/malware like tactics with popups to trick windows 7 and 8 users into "upgrading" when most people didnt want to upgrade in the first place. Yeah I admit it's not a literal malware ran by actual criminals but still pushes the envelope a bit too far.

This shilling thread, please use a trip so that I can filter you
>>
>>52524048
You *chose* to agree to their terms of service. If you don't like what Microsoft currently is doing, stop using their services, namely their OS.
>>
>>52524066
that's a bit hard to do when they put misleading popup ads all over the place (similar to what botnet owners do to infect people) and essentially force you to purchase windows when you buy a new computer.
>>
>>52522962

That's because Linux users' mentality is that their OS is a hobby and it's main purpose is playing/tinkering with it.

In my opinion, my OS shouldn't be something I have to babysit and endlessly look after, it should "just work" and allow me to get shit done. That's why I use Windows.
>>
>>52524083
I will agree that they're very misleading. I'll even go so far as to say that they're taking the arrogant position to hide behind their EULAs just like all other monopolistic commercial companies looking to make a profit on the backs of its users. Still, it your own responsibility to still go for Microsoft, especially in light of all the telemetry that's being sucked in.

You can disable them for good in a couple of clicks. But of course a lintard like you panics if something you want to do doesn't require typing 20 lines of shell commands, so you got lost

>what's that you came with a windows 10 compatible LAN driver? Nooo you don't need that, let me delete it for you.
Never heard of Windows just "deleting drivers"... sounds like made-up BS to be honest. Can you be more specific? What happened?

>you want to install the latest nvidia driver? Sorry I heard "would like to fail the installation and cause your screen to start flashing black once a second , which also locks out your mouse control between flashes"
Are you SURE you're not actually talking about x.org??

>Disk corruption, driver corruption
Sounds to me like you somehow fucked up royally during setup. Either that or you're using some pirated beta iso you found on hsady public torrents somewhere. Format and start from scratch with the latest version.

Will Microsoft offer a version of Win 10 without any data collection? That people could pay for for?
>>
>>52515285
>>52515318
Haven't you followed the trends?
Microsoft is pushing as much people as possible so they can go full data mining on every individual user and collect everything you type, everything you say, every Internet connection you make (inb4 paranoid: it's all in the privacy policy). Now once they've finally found a convenient way to force Bing upon all users, Microsoft needs to mine a couple of years to have enough data about the behavior of the population and the relative behavior of individual people that they can start experimenting.
What does the user do when we make this link a bit bigger? Will the user accept a small unintrusive ad? Maybe a bit bigger one? Maybe if we say we're not going to sell your private information to third parties?
Will the user believe a bend truth if we show it as first result? Will the user defend Windows on anonymous image boards when we say we're spying on them to improve the user experience? We heard that users can be unconsciously be influenced by ads we only show one frame, would that work? Anon, it seems you are looking for something to eat, why not Dominos again? Anon, we've found the best place to buy these computer parts you've been looking for. Search results for "4chan": 1. Reddit, 2: Forbes, 3: MicroChan.
Where are my torrents gone? Who uninstalled my software? But police, loli isn't real. But police, my IP address could be used by anyone else. B-but my Microsoft account c-could be too!
Anon, I see you value hiding your porn, let's share this value. Anon, have you been disabling telemetry again? You agreed that we can use your input to justify this on your PayPal account. But don't you know 2 factor authentication on two windows devices doesn't protect you? Anon, you have accepted this fate years ago. Anon, you have agreed that you could not undo this.

>What is there not to like about it, /g/?
I used Windows 10 for a while, also used the insider builds from as soon as they were available all the way up to the final release.
Here's what I don't like about it:
1) It's missing a proper driver for my sound card, which causes it to butcher any audio I might try to record. Playback was perfectly fine, no issues there, but audio in Fraps or OBS recordings got fucked.
Sadly the custom driver that's available for Windows 7/8.1 doesn't work on Windows 10. I know the blame for this is more on my sound card (or rather, its bankrupt manufacturer) than Windows 10, but it's still contributing to me not running Windows 10 now.

2) I started experiencing a dumb bug in build 10130, which I reported 5 times with every new build. Hadn't been fixed 4 months into the final release, and probably only occurs on some very specific combinations of hardware. I am 99% sure that this is a software bug, as it never happened before build 10130, and it still does not happen on Windows 8.1.
But basically it would cause my system to hang for about 0.5 seconds every now and then while idling. And only while idling, under load this issue never happened. No indication that something went wrong either, nothing in Event Viewer, no weird spikes in cpu/ram/hdd/gpu usage, no nothing.

no. upgrade to 8.1 from 8, install classic shell, and enjoy having a fully functioning OS which isn't spying on you as Windows 10 does.

English motherfucker, do you speak it? Did I _ever_ mention that Windows 8 isn't spying on you? What I said was that it isn't spying on you as Windows 10 does. Sure, with the telemetry updates, it does. But without them, it's not dumping all your information (keystrokes, microphone, webcamera, etc), only small portion of it.
And now try to learn English better to understand what others have to say.

I like Windows 10 quite a lot.
I moved to Windows 8.1 after not using it since XP and was pleasantly surprised.

I enjoyed Linux for years but once I got a job that was non tech that involves me being out from 7:30am to 6pm and travelling a lot it was nice having something that just worked without tinkering or temptation to fuck with shit.

I learned a lot of powershell in just a couple of weeks and still script/automate a load of shit. I actually LOVE powershell to the point I try use ipython as shell whenever having to use Linux which is very rarely.

It's actually a common problem online with multiple causes due to W10's fucked up system.

Disabling onedrive on launch can cause it, as well as having notification enabled (apparently Windows encrypts everything on shutdown and decrypts it using onedrive so that solved it) but other than that, still could use some help.

It's a tactic

18. Emotionalize, Antagonize, and Goad Opponents. If you can't do anything else, chide and taunt your opponents and draw them into emotional responses which will tend to make them look foolish and overly motivated, and generally render their material somewhat less coherent. Not only will you avoid discussing the issues in the first instance, but even if their emotional response addresses the issue, you can further avoid the issues by then focusing on how 'sensitive they are to criticism.'
