What's the point of ever using a desktop environment?

So you can do things by clicking stuff and pressing enter instead of typing a blogpost to fetch a fucking package

I wish this meme would die. /g/ is simply a board intended for chatting about technology, bickering about headphones, and posting cute anime pictures.
Hardly the most productive activities in the world, but nothing that precludes gainful employment.
I think I'll make a poll or something.

I have a job and go to school part time, but I still put NEET.
So you can spend time configuring the broken-ass "functionality" of gnome, finding a way to avoid KDE's many bugs, finding useful software to replace the garbage xfce and lxde/qt come with, and all that other shit instead of piecing together something that works.
In the end, you get the same result and waste the same amount of time, but /g/ makes fun of you because it's "bloat".

Employed here. I really hate GUIs because nobody makes a good one. They're all different on every system and they all need a little (or a lot) of configuration, sometimes varying by version.
Even default OS X needs functionality-related configuration (and it's going away (RIP bettertouchtool))
It's worth it to just learn a functional program that's the same everywhere like default emacs or chrome and a bunch of web applications.

How are you employed if you cannot pay a new dollars to the developer of the OS you've been using. Surely if you are employed, you would know how much work making and maintaining an OS is. NEEt detected

anything you can do in a HLPL you can do in assembly language, which is what I use for my high paying software development job which I got thanks to my Maths degree.

How much do you get paid f.am?

The correct answer is convenience, which is also why people use desktop environments.

That's still one line command too much, compared to what you'd do with a DE or at least a TUI.

Why do you make everything intentionally hard for youself? Do you think that it gets you some mad cred points or something? Do you want a pat on the back for all that cum in your mouth, you dumb idiot faggot?
