ITT things that would only ever exist in open source
What a frustrating photo, that is.
To think, we all live on the same planet as the imbecile that spent minutes of his time creating that image.
To this day, probably, he cucks himself with Windows and never bothered to find out how he could configure Linux to show thumbnails in the file upload dialog.
Modern WM/DEs have had this feature by default for years. When I say "years" I mean 5+ years. More lightweight ones may need to configure it but running Gnome/KDE is a zeroconf situation with that. OP is just a retard.
No, this is like buying a car produced in 1995 and being mad when the stock head unit doesn't support AUX or Bluetooth. Once again this feature has been present in the big DEs for many years.
wow look at that huge icon preview
you know the whole board is laughing at you now, right?
I just leave a file manager open and drag-and-drop files as needed. by doing this
>my file picker dialog has multiple tabs
>it displays all files, not just the ones your dialog is looking for
>I can preview the whole file by double clicking
>I can manage my files because it's a file manager
>I can select multiple files at the same time
>it stays open at all times
and so on...
When would you need a file picker?
Wait, you have DE choices in wincucks these days?
Comment before said >windows has this stuff as default
>why compare bicycles (that don't have the feature) to motorcycles (that do)
>why compare linux (that doesn't have this feature) to windows (that does)
Bicycle = Linux
Motocycle = Windows
Lol something that would never exist in open source
How often do yo usee these on Linux?
>We don't need them
Winbabbies on damage control
Lets you defer the update. Windows 10 gives you a countdown with no option to defer the update until you're comfortable.
Let's say you're rendering a video on Windows and that shit pops up, the render has 20 minutes left, and the update kicks in in 12 minutes. You're fucked. The Linux update can be ignored until you want to reboot.
How much is Microsoft paying you Rasheed?
>Windows 10 gives you a countdown with no option to defer the update until you're comfortable
Been using Windows 10 since it came out. Automatic updates enabled and everything
Not once have I been "forced" to install updates
When will this meme die? I get large image previews of my photos on the right side of my file manager when I shit post. Are you actually retarded enough to think that someone wouldn't have implemented this by now? Linux is a kernel not a file manager you idiot.
>right side of my file manager
You get a preview of a single image that is currently selected
Do you plan on clicking through every single image you have to find that one you're looking for
>otherwise, you should close this message and use the remaining time to save anything you don't want to lose
means that the restart is going to happen and you have a time limit to save your shit. Closing the message doesn't postpone the reboot, unlike on the lunix pic.
learn to read.
Holy shit are you lincucks this retarded or are you just trying to "defend" your shit "OS"? jesus fucking christ lmao
But it is preceded
Made a thread just to prove you wrong
Default search offering: brute force linear search. No indexing
>How often do yo usee these on Linux?
Not often. At least in my experience it only crashes because of GPU drivers. When those fail it can rarely even show an error message before the screen stops updating, or the computer goes into thermal shutdown because the GPU is locked at 100% with no functioning power management.
>Cannot chose restart later
There are some people who actually have c u c k fetish

I have no idea what you're talking about m8
Games, sometimes better drivers (I get less power consumption on my laptop, I counted, although didn't really bother going in-depth on power saving in Linux). Also you may find this surprising, but stability might become a factor also. A lot of modern Linux distros are not all that stable, I had KDE5 crash every now and then.
Fedora 23 already has adopted the patched gtk picker
How won't you buy a console?
Well making a gaming pc is kind of a good excuse if literally that's the thing you want
>I had KDE5 crashed
Funny I am running plasma for 5 months now, I never once experienced lag/bug/crash.
Probably because I just turned off the fancy desktop effects
>Fedora 23 already has adopted the patched gtk picker
Where can one download the patch? I wish to have this in Gentoo.
>How won't you buy a console?
Because he doesn't want to use shit hardware to play video games in fluid "cinematic" 19.2 fps?
What is the best distro for quickly trying out different window/file managers, environments, etc?
I'll be doing it in a VM, so might have issues getting internet in that (or not).
> I wish to have this in Gentoo.
Idk, the source should be in launchpad or somewhere, since you are using Gentoo you can compile from the source or whatever.
>Well making a gaming pc is kind of a good excuse if literally that's the thing you want
i've been using windows 8 since 8.0 and win10 since the insider builds and literally never seen that happen once
>This much knowledge
>Pretends to know everything about Linux
Vateran winbabbies, everyone
Not surprising these people are the ones who make shit tier threads like this
If you do not update it then you should not fucking own a PC.
You filthy security threat to any network you cannot too.
>Simple window usert habbit
Dw mate, linux distros auto update like the windtard turd10
Who the fuck cares?
I mean, I buy a shitty car, do I pick on the spider webs on the mirror, or the fact that the cunt turns on and drives. I got it for free.
Same concept here. You didn't develop shit for the linux project, you downloaded it for free.
If you see a fucking image, your system is working on linux. Quit fucking bitching. Contribute your programming or shut the fuck up.
Nope. No they are not.
I still standby the cancer is this thread. Unless you dedicate your programming skills to the linux project you have decided to leech from, then missing features is only right that you should simply shut the fuck about with your complaining. Program a solution, or continue to fail at seeing any changes.
Too much rambling about a file picker but what about tabs on the file explorer?
Why doesn't Windows provide such basic features?
KDialog has to be compiled with the browser. If you know how to integrate it, I'd appreciate a link.
I know Chromium has a patched version that uses KDialog instead of GTK, but I'm too reliant on certain Firefox-based addons to switch to a Chrome-based browser.
>Do you plan on clicking through every single image you have to find that one you're looking for
I keep my shit organized. When I do have a messy folder (such as my porn) then yes. Even on OS X I do this a lot.
Those files do not look organized.
I organize too using reaction images.
Got one folder for each type of reaction. Each folder has a bunch of images with their original 4chan filenames intact. I don't want to browse through these images to find the right one with the preview. I'd like the files to have properly sized thumbnails for easier navigation within folders.
These threads are always filled with the same 4 type of people, but the dumbest type of person has to be the ones who claim this is not an issue, or saying "Works for me" then posts a screenshot of their preview.
>Those files do not look organized.
Because it's my porn folder. Trying to break your porn down into super specific categories is a waste of time and all it does is prevent you from fapping to 90% of the images you save. Pic related.
That's what I do too. I even name all my reaction images. Pic related again.
> I don't want to browse through these images to find the right one with the preview. I'd like the files to have properly sized thumbnails for easier navigation within folders.
The point of staying organized is so you can remember the general location of your files, which makes using a single thumbnail easy. Why wouldn't you rename your images when you download them anyway?
>These threads are always filled with the same 4 type of people, but the dumbest type of person has to be the ones who claim this is not an issue, or saying "Works for me" then posts a screenshot of their preview.
It is an issue, but it's so small an issue for anyone who actually sorts their images correctly.
>Trying to break your porn down into super specific categories is a waste of time and all it does is prevent you from fapping to 90% of the images you save. Pic related.
Fapping while neatly organizing my porn is the best.
Why would you scan for files when you can type the name you want in your indexer? If you really did lose the file then looking at the names or going one by one will be less error prone than trying to scan over 50 thumbnails at the same time.
Because I have the same file selection setup for OS X and Linux you dunce.
It does, but since I keep my shit organized why would I use them?
Your (You) poster here.
I still don't see that as a well organized reaction folder by your standard.
What is the difference between
They're both in our Disgusting folder after all.
Both your organizing and my organizing requires thumbnails to properly pick the correct image to use. And the GTK filepicker thumbnails are too small for that. Especially if it's a folder with more specific images that you'd want to post, like screenshots from anime.
Because it's easy to remember disgust-005.png is my flavor of the week reaction as opposed to a Unix timestamp that may as well be random numbers.
>And the GTK filepicker thumbnails are too small for that.
No they aren't. You can get the general idea of what the image in the tiny thumbnail is and when you click on it you get the bigger thumbnail like your picture shows. It's the same with OS X in columns mode. If you have your stuff organized it's not the much of a hinderance at all.
Exactly what the fuck is the issue here, dear indians?
Use KDialog instead of gtk if you don't like it. It's the fault of the furecucks devs that they won't use anything but gtk
>Because it's easy to remember disgust-005.png is my flavor of the week reaction as opposed to a Unix timestamp that may as well be random numbers.
If I'm having a flavor of the week reaction I'll know the position and looks of the tiny thumbnail.
>No they aren't. You can get the general idea of what the image in the tiny thumbnail
>watch episode of anime
>take a bunch of screenshots
>go into the weekly /a/ thread
Organizing every screenshot I take through an episode if I'm feeling screenshotty is a lot of work that I could avoid if I had a functional filepicker.
Yes, if your PC is objectively a toaster turn off the desktop effects like the true c u c k you are. What's with all these fuss?
Then disable Kwin and install your NEET tier WM? Is that so hard?
>I'll know the position and looks of the tiny thumbnail.
Why not have both the name and the thumbnail?
>Organizing every screenshot I take through an episode if I'm feeling screenshotty is a lot of work that I could avoid if I had a functional filepicker.
Why do you need the name of the anime in the file? Isn't that redundant for a board that prides itself on not "spoonfeeding" people?
Just set it to save in incremental filenames. Better yet, use the date so you'll find where you left off even easier.
Probably you need to save up some money and get a HDD with decent storage capacity so it can contain 700MB of package files, anon
>Why do you need the name of the anime in the file?
>Isn't that redundant for a board that prides itself on not "spoonfeeding" people?
You clearly don't go to /a/.
>Just set it to save in incremental filenames. Better yet, use the date so you'll find where you left off even easier.
This will not help me find that exact screenshot I want. Finding the episode number is easy through the filename. Finding the exact screenshot from a given episode is something that would be trivial with a proper filepicker.
Well they need to stop presenting shit excuses and learn KDE takes less space than windows, which is basically the only operating systems that indians use
This is why I don't use windows, dear sandeep
Looks like it'd make it more confusing. In fact the first thing I do when I download anime is remove the tags on the filename.
>You clearly don't go to /a/.
You're right. It's one of the worst boards on 4chan in my opinion. But clearly lots of people like it so oh well.
>Finding the exact screenshot from a given episode is something that would be trivial with a proper filepicker.
So you mean finding a screenshot long after you've taken it. Why wouldn't using your cursor keys to go up and down the list of files work? I mean how many screenshots do you take per episode? Once you find the episode you wanted it would only take a few seconds to get the right screenshot.
>mention how you can get thumbnails in Linux if you configure your OS properly
>"Y-you shouldn't have to edit configuration to get a basic feature!"
>point out forced updates in Windows
>"Lol, you can get rid of those if you configure your OS properly!"
>Looks like it'd make it more confusing. In fact the first thing I do when I download anime is remove the tags on the filename.
It only looks confusing on an anime like GochiUsa, but it does allow for easy organizing after the season is over, since all the screenshots are sorted by anime name. When I'm done watching them, I can make a folder for them and easily find every screenshot from that specific show and put them in to a proper folder.
I'd love to have mpv do this for me, but unfortunately I haven't found this kind of functionality.
>So you mean finding a screenshot long after you've taken it. Why wouldn't using your cursor keys to go up and down the list of files work? I mean how many screenshots do you take per episode? Once you find the episode you wanted it would only take a few seconds to get the right screenshot.
I can easily have over 50 screenshots per episode for moeshit anime.
Her pics are exactly the reason why I installed LInux on her computer
I don't trust the pervs at MS
But here, this one isn't nude
I love Linux, but don't ignore the fact that you can turn off updates in Windows.
The most you can do is to defer them :^)
