You can tax product imports from out of country. The US is largely the biggest Apple consumer in the world. If products imported from China paid, say, 50% of their value in import tax, their profits would be slashed hugely.

Of course, that's a ridiculous tax, and I doubt it would be something that high. You don't need to target a specific corporation to make them move. Just tax whatever shithole they manufacture in.

The US lose billions every year from US companies producing in China and importing to the US, with little to no taxes applied to them. This has been one of Trump's flagship during his campaign. He keeps saying that China doesn't play fair, which we all have known for decades now, but no one seems to care. He's also the only one saying it.

I have nothing against companies producing elsewhere when the country they're in doesn't have the means to do so. But the US clearly has the means and the workforce for it. The only reason it's not done, is to increase profit margins for the company. No other reason at all. Destroy that extra profit margin, and you'll have the companies back in no time, even if it's just for the nice PR.

I think we're all failing to take note of the stonewalling of innovation by corporations. When every metric of performance that a company produces is exclusive to monetary gain it creates a problem. Corporations cut corners and force R&D not to create something novel, but something that will net the most profit. They send the manufacturing processes overseas to ensure production cost is as low as possible, they wholesale to other massive corporations that can push units faster than any competitor for lower prices with the same margins, and no matter how well the product turns over the people producing it see only baseline revenue the cycle repeats, it concentrates wealth into certain parties pockets and company and assets but never does it see a worker's pocket.

You could pose the argument that new industries are being founded daily, but those new industries after any semblance of value is produced are bought out by bigger companies and quickly lose their creative value. Then there are industries which an individual or small company could never achieve. Microprocessors for instance, motor vehicles for another. Nobody can compete with these huge corporations and so new jobs can't be created. If there was a vacuum in the market it could be suffocated easily with mediocre products which would be subsequently rationalized as good enough. What we need to do is start breaking these companies down and redistributing their assets to smaller companies with more empathy and a stronger sense of responsibility.
