>Speaking at Liberty University today, Trump escalated his rhetoric on Apple's overseas manufacturing, and claimed somehow the US would reclaim those jobs in the future. "We have such amazing people in this country: smart, sharp, energetic, they're amazing," Trump said. "I was saying make America great again, and I actually think we can say now, and I really believe this, we're gonna get things coming... we're gonna get Apple to start building their damn computers and things in this country, instead of in other countries."

we just need to invest in automation.

China already has low wage workers and infrastructure so businesses default to them.

once we overcome the initial investment prices will be even lower to fabricate and assemble domestically.

>>52498782

capitalism doesn't work when some businesses enjoy state-sponsorship
>>
>>52498857
Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of bringing jobs back here? Unless you're ok with just a handful of service engineers and technicians having jobs.
>>
>>52498654
Honestly, it's really easy to force them to do so.

Increase the taxation on products imported from China, which he plans on doing already, apparently. Bam, Apple's profit goes down the drain on taxes alone. No reason to keep producing in China, where quality is most likely always worse than if it was produced in the US.

Apple is all about the maximum profit anyway. They never cared for anyone. Not for their customers, not for their country, not for their workers. It's all about how much digits you can put after the $ symbol. How anyone can like them and defend them to death, is beyond me. It's even stupider when it's hardcore leftists, since they all seem to love Apple. Weird.
>>
>>52498882
Automation doesn't necessarily kill more jobs than it creates. The jobs will still be there, they'll just have other names and require different training. A lot of jobs of today didn't exist 100 years ago, and many more disappeared in the meanwhile, it's not like we went extinct because of that.

I mean, I guess Apple could just say fuck it and keep producing in China at lower profits than producing in the US, but that wouldn't make sense at all. It's bad PR for them, and bad for the profits.

Usually when sanctions like that are imposed on companies they move their headquarters out of the country and all the execs go with it and they just keep the money off shores. Just look at the Burger king/Tim Thorntons acquisition instead of paying 40% tax they just set up the headquarters in Canada and left the money there
>>
>>52498917
You do realize that doing more with fewer workers and less money is kind of the point of automation? Automation has killed a LOT of jobs in the past, specially in the car industry, and it will continue to do so in the future. The main positive thing I can think of here is that in the near future most of the jobs automation will kill will be in countries like China.

I don't mean tax them directly, you idiots.

You can tax product imports from out of country. The US is largely the biggest Apple consumer in the world. If products imported from China paid, say, 50% of their value in import tax, their profits would be slashed hugely.

Of course, that's a ridiculous tax, and I doubt it would be something that high. You don't need to target a specific corporation to make them move. Just tax whatever shithole they manufacture in.

The US lose billions every year from US companies producing in China and importing to the US, with little to no taxes applied to them. This has been one of Trump's flagship during his campaign. He keeps saying that China doesn't play fair, which we all have known for decades now, but no one seems to care. He's also the only one saying it.

I have nothing against companies producing elsewhere when the country they're in doesn't have the means to do so. But the US clearly has the means and the workforce for it. The only reason it's not done, is to increase profit margins for the company. No other reason at all. Destroy that extra profit margin, and you'll have the companies back in no time, even if it's just for the nice PR.
>>
>>52499060
That doesn't really matter. As long as you want to sell your products in the US, they will have to be imported there and you'll have to pay more taxes. Your HQ could be "based" anywhere and you'd still have to pay more.

http://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/video/trump-vs.-trump--a-look-at-donald-trumps-evolving-positions-over-the-years-482986563581

The GOP presidential front-runner has a history of changing his stances, as NBC's Chuck Todd so pointedly noted back in July. (The Fix has also documented this.)

But while many of those flips happened as Trump, over the years, transitioned from a Democrat to a Republican, they're also happening in the midst of his 2016 presidential campaign. In fact, he's made several total reversals within weeks or even days of initially staking out a position. And often his new position better aligns him with the conservative Republican base he's courting than his previous one.

Here are six of Donald Trump's biggest 180s so far, as explained by The Donald himself.

i've been to china, to several major cities, some you've heard of, others where i was the first american person they ever saw and talked to.

everything is under construction there. i've never seen anything like it. skyscrapers, roads, dams, bridges. i rode a train from chengdu to an outlying city, it took one hour on the train leaving the city before i stopped being surrounded by skyscrapers.

if manufacturing gets phased out (lmao) they will have plenty of jobs in construction, and infrastructure management

Mexico is cheaper after you factor in transportation costs. The reason people don't go to Mexico is because the two faced managers with their smug liberal ethics don't feel as good when they talk about "muh developing nations." For them, Mexicans are those different speaking brown people with chubby wives.

Yes, there is a left leaning form of racism around the why of outsourcing.
>>
>>52499393
They'll probably deport a few and inflate the numbers for the media, many businesses close to the border and in the south depend on cheap illegal labor like farming and Trump won't fuck with them.
Afterwards they'll go to war cause the military industry needs another one desperately and murrikans will forget all about it.
>>
>>52499550
actually china is cheapre after you factor in production costs.

that's why all businesses manufacture their shit in china, and ship it over on super carriers. because it's C H E A P E R. if mexico were cheaper, they would be manufacturing there
>>
>>52499516
He's not even a Mr. Smoothtalker. He's a blatant fool that runs on pathos. He has the same general appeal as Bernie Sanders, ironically. He's a candidate who's blunt and breaking the maddening traditional political tropes and "standards", people confuse this along with his tendency to frame shit ideas as "the easy answer the morons leading us are unwilling to take!" for intelligence and insight. He likely has neither, nor their best interest in mind. He also rarely says much of anything detailed or substantial.

Most of his plans wouldn't pan out. There is validity in some of his arguments and criticism, but right now he's just an actor He's playing, and I've yet to truly figure where the real him begins and the acting ends. I don't actually think he's very clever though, ultimately.

Watching his rallies is like watching a cult meeting. Burlington is by the waterfront, gets pretty cold. His claims of security and law so tough no one makes a move is genuinely disturbing, and if someone tried to take my coat and throw me out in the cold, a lot of people might get hurt. Then again, I wouldn't be a moron sitting around with a Bernie sign at a Trump cult meeting.
>>
>>52499094

It's not complicated. Make it so they can't sell their products in the US if they don't comply. You think they're just gonna say fuck this, if I can only have 30% profit instead of 80% I won't bother selling my product at all?
>>
>>52499614
There are some downsides. Firstly, any equipment or whatnot you move onto the chinese property of your own, is immediately owned by the Chinese. This is why it's an investment you're not apt to pull out of unless you've strictly contracted with another company.

Secondly, the tariffs are pitiful. You can easily net a massive profit.
>>
of course we have great smart people here, who the fuck do you think is engineering this stuff?

if you don't comply you're fired. but donny, you can't fire everybody. you can't fire the ayatollah of iran if he doesn't want to bend over backwards and suck your cock for you.

you can fire putin just because he doesn't want to let you fuck russia in the ass. you cant fire australia just because they don't see value in sending more troops to the middle east.

that's not how the world works. but that's the only idea he has for getting anything done

>All components are made in China
>A "factory" in the US attaches the screens
Wow, much jobs, very manufacturing.

Time and again, protectionism DOES NOT WORK. You end up with these stupid workarounds that give a symbolic amount of jobs. It's like those vans that are imported to the US with seats because of the ban on imported commercial vehicles. The seats are stripped out in the US and hey it's not an imported commercial vehicle now.

So the Chinese economy is doing very well according to you, but they just got out of a real estate bubble and recently their stock market crashed.

It's just Western media propaganda, right? There was no market crash, no real estate bubble, China has no economic issues. All this because one person went there and seen people in the cities buying stuff, so you immediately got a statistically significant opinion about the whole economy.

Well, it's already known that China has most bilionaires by now, it surpassed the US in that department, but is that really relevent to how the rest of the country is living?

There are more Mercedes in Europe than in other countries, because it's cheaper to buy European cars in Europe, since you don't pay any import taxes.

But most people in Europe don't buy expensive cars anymore. They think only peasants who just got rich by using EU agricultural funds or development funds buy Mercedes to show their new social status. Most everyone in Europe either buys midrange or cheaper cars or uses public transportation or bikes. The time of using your wealth to buy ostentatious luxury stuff is Europe is long gone, nobody does that except nouveau riche and EU farmers who want to show off. And of course, arabs who moved to Europe and need to prove that they "made it" so they buy a Mertz to have something to show for.
>>
>>52501125
>Why elect him if all you're going to get is lip service?
Have you ever actually looked into anything he's done? Have you watched any of the debates, and do you actually realize any of the shit he, and every other candidate, actually has to wade through? It's not truly delicate, but it is a mess.

I actually remember some speech he was giving where some people started yelling and arguing with him. He tries to calm them down, you know, so the discussion can be a "you say you thing, and I say my thing, rather than we both yell at each other at the same time" kind of deal. It doesn't work, he loses it and tells them to shut up.

It doesn't seem like you actually understand anything about campaigning, dealing with the media, and dealing with how stupid people are when it comes to informing them about the function, and flaws, of a very large system. I've yet to see him back down, stand there and take, nor cave to anyone's irrelevant horseshit.

Either way, people aren't ever perfect, but I'm from Vermont. He's not the new guy on the scene for me.

Hey never mind most of the electronics fabs are overseas. Let's tax the shit out of Chinese imports and sit back and watch as China goes and artificially drives electronics prices and rare-earth metal prices to absurd levels in response.

You know, I'm going into EE and MY JOB is dependent on a company being able to design electronics which requires the components to be cheap. If they are insanely expensive people won't be buying electronics, which means companies won't be hiring engineers, which means I'll be out of a job.

Unless he plans to let me sit on my ass and collect unemployment all day for the rest of my life I suggest Donald Trump figure out a better way to fix our economy.
>>
I think we're all failing to take note of the stonewalling of innovation by corporations. When every metric of performance that a company produces is exclusive to monetary gain it creates a problem. Corporations cut corners and force R&D not to create something novel, but something that will net the most profit. They send the manufacturing processes overseas to ensure production cost is as low as possible, they wholesale to other massive corporations that can push units faster than any competitor for lower prices with the same margins, and no matter how well the product turns over the people producing it see only baseline revenue the cycle repeats, it concentrates wealth into certain parties pockets and company and assets but never does it see a worker's pocket.

You could pose the argument that new industries are being founded daily, but those new industries after any semblance of value is produced are bought out by bigger companies and quickly lose their creative value. Then there are industries which an individual or small company could never achieve. Microprocessors for instance, motor vehicles for another. Nobody can compete with these huge corporations and so new jobs can't be created. If there was a vacuum in the market it could be suffocated easily with mediocre products which would be subsequently rationalized as good enough. What we need to do is start breaking these companies down and redistributing their assets to smaller companies with more empathy and a stronger sense of responsibility.
>>
>>52502565

> look at wallmart, thats what happens when you raise min. Wage

That's a good use of post hoc fallacy. People might even believe were this >>>/pol/.

Sadly, it's not. Walmart stock was dropping like mad prior to the whole wage increase thing because of competition with Amazon, Target and Kroger. They have a foundation in nearly every urban and suburban community, so while the wage increase did eat into their bottom line, it was the least of their worries.

By the way, Walmart will never go bankrupt. Ever. There are simply too many people going to their stores.

Germany reporting in. You're talking about Cologne, I suppose? The new years eve incident, which was 1. a singular event and 2. a single rape has yet to be proven, so far it's only been reported harrassment. Yes, one woman is claiming she's been raped and that may be true, but nothing is official yet.
Here where I live, the immigrants went out on 1st of January to clean the streets of the massive amount of fireworks waste while everybody else was still comatose drunk.

Don't talk about shit you don't understand, asshole. There's a million stories to this refugee crisis, quit trying to blame your domestic problems on immigrants, whom you in your ignorance so floridly name 'illegal alien cockroaches' best kept out by walls. Fuck you.

I love the US. Not for idiots like you, of course, but it's a great country. Most of the people shit posting Trump probably don't realize that Steve Jobs had a dinner with Obama where he expressed that Apple wanted to do more in America. But that certain tax laws would have to be adjusted to make it remotely feasible.

Think about that: our country has gotten so off course that even a liberal like Jobs understood that it fucks up our businesses and sends work overseas.

Of course Obama is a barely above average IQ pleb indoctrinated in shit politics so it was like talking to a wall.

I don't doubt for one second that a businessman like Trump knows how to bring work back to America. Hell, right off the bat just give U.S. corporations a one time tax break on offshore money they bring back home so long as they invest a percentage in U.S. based businesses, factories, etc. That would result in far MORE tax revenue over a 10 year period then the taxes "lost" on money they will never bring home under our current laws any way. And it will create jobs at the same time.

That one is easy. Trump probably knows a hundred ways to provide incentives to corporations to bring money, production, and work back home.
>>
>>52498889
>Apple is all about the maximum profit anyway. They never cared for anyone.

When you grow up you'll realize two things.

1) The bottom line is literally and always that: the bottom line. If you don't have profits then nothing else you care about matters because the company goes under and everyone gets fired.

2) While there are corporations that don't give a shit about anything else, a lot of corporations really do care about their products, customers, and impact in the world. Now read A again because even corporations with the highest of ideals can't do shit that's positive unless there's a profit.

As far as Apple goes...

* Jobs always wanted to change the world for the better. He was always trying to make products to do that.

* Apple has always been led by silicon valley liberals who want to say their work did something more then just make $$$.

* You don't have to like their tech to recognize the above.

Microsoft always had a culture that was much more about $$$ then Apple, but even in their case they wanted to build good things and do charity work.

What's that phrase liberals like to throw around privileges and checks?

>"Don't talk about shit you don't understand, asshole."
>German then proceeds to talk about U.S. immigration

All you need to do to verify our problem is look up crime stats and Federal/state spending on illegal immigrants. Numbers don't lie, and without control of the border we cannot vet immigrants and only accept those that are peaceful, skilled, and interested in contributing to America.

And don't reply with crocodile tears about "muh poor starving refugees!" Mexico is a resource rich nation and their gov needs to take care of their own poor. Saudi Arabia is also resource rich and could house every single refugee currently in Europe.

I don't know about Germany, but we have enough poor here we're struggling to lift out of crime and poverty.

>Now stop using a phenomenon happening an ocean away and beyond your understanding to justify any kind of domestic policy,

The shooting in San Bernardino by two people who were BRAGGING ON FACEBOOK ABOUT JIHAD is enough justification for Trump's domestic policy. Immigration freeze of all Muslims until we have a system in place to vet them and keep out potential criminals.

Heck, he doesn't go far enough. Immigration freeze until our budgets (Federal and state) are all balanced, our infrastructure is in a state of repair, our population employment participation rate is way up, AND we have a proper vetting system in place.

The U.S. isn't the world's home and cannot solve the world's problems. We have some pretty serious problems of our own right now. Maybe it's time for "guests" to leave and stay away until our house is in order.

Apple already earns gorillions of money, it wouldn't harm them in any way to come back to USA, but of course, they won't they want the biggest profit they can get. That's how the world works. >shilling so hard you call women liars and blame the victims

where did i do that? i replied to the accusation of "mass rape attacks" with the clear facts, which are that one woman has claimed she was raped but nothing has been proven yet. i said it might be true. my point was: even if one woman was raped, which certainly is bad, it hardly makes it a "mass rape attack", let alone several.

>German then proceeds to talk about U.S. immigration

now where did i do that again? i was referring to the statement that immigrants were "illegal alien cockroaches", which is dehumanizing at best, and has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the US version of immigration.

neither was i talking about immigration from Mexico, although i do honestly doubt a wall will do any better than the huge fence you already have along huge streaks of said border. i was talking about the refugee crisis from the middle east, which Trump doesn't get tired of citing as a source of terrorism when what we have here and what we experience here clearly speaks a different language.

as for our poor, we have a working social security system, so we're doing fine on that front. the precarious job sector is what i'm more worried about for Germany.

>immigration freeze
sorry, but i believe immigration would help the problems you're citing, not worsen them.
as for the San Bernardino shootings, i don't have any numbers, although i do agree that stricter vetting might help with that. i also think an immigration freeze might send the wrong message - implementing stronger vetting should be possible without having to damage the standing the US have in the world that way.

Replacement fertility is the total fertility rate at which women give birth to enough babies to sustain population levels.

If there were no mortality in the female population until the end of the childbearing years (generally taken as 44, 45, or 49, though some exceptions exist) then the replacement level of TFR would be very close to 2.0. The replacement fertility rate is roughly 2.0 births per woman for most industrialized countries (2.075 in the UK, for example), but ranges from 2.5 to 3.3 in developing countries because of higher mortality rates.[4] Taken globally, the total fertility rate at replacement is 2.33 children per woman. At this rate, global population growth would tend towards zero.

and is this high due to africa. Start dropping condoms and books, and they will stop making 6-7 children

Just turn it into you can only receive ebt and other welfare shit if you actually have a job. Welfare is supplemental not a replacement. Also cap the amount of support a woman can receive for welfare to just 3 children. That's a decent size and a good middle ground before going into repopulate earth/mudslime/gibsmedats tier.

True, for all these years we've provided a reason for their economy to grow. And as such they've constructed almost their entire lifestyle and country around that. Take away that reason and things will begin to collapse. If processing plants were to be setup over here, Americans would gladly pay more just help our own economy. Tariffs don't even have to be put into place, the people will create their own form of protectionism.

However the ONLY drawback to this situation is finding a skilled and dedicated workforce. Robots are the obvious answer but from my understanding they already do their part. Unless there is going to be another jump in robotics, skilled labor is going to be hard to come by. You could probably get away with working conditions about 2/3rds as bad as over in China but nothing more.
>>
>>52506148
That first part is a great example of why Europe is going to collapse. Denial and rationalization through the roof and maximum indignation at anyone pointing out the multiculturalist utopia is hell. Nothing to see here, move on. Muh altruistic immigrants. Nice way to paint a fictional gilded image of the Muhammadan hordes while smearing native Europeans in the same sentence. Hello, their whole reason for being in Europe is to leech off the system. They have a huge sense of entitlement to EVERYTHING including money and women. The real refugees are in camps in countries close to the war-ravaged areas, not trekking all the way to Northern Europe to "clean the streets". How can you be this stupid? They didn't come here to clean streets or to work their ass off or to give out of the goodness of their heart. They came here to take and exploit, point blank. None of the fictions you share in your circle of brainwashed multiculturalists changes reality. You think people are freely given all the information about immigrant criminality? You only see the tip of the iceberg. They hide it as much as possible because that criminality alone can cause societal collapse if natives find out the true scale of it.

>damage the us standing in the world

Nigga why do you think these people come over ere to do us harm because they hate us! Non-interventionalist policies were what we should have been doing but dumbasses like Teddy Roosevelt decided that it would more fun to use his big stick in South America. Continuing such policies till now, CIA and the White House have effectively come to the understanding that the citizens of the world are under the jurisdiction of the US constitution. This line of thinking is wrong. The rise of communism in proxy countries didn't help this trend either.

America is for Americans. Doesn't matter what their skin color or beliefs are. We cannot be the Atlas or Jesus Christ of the world, when we are unable to even take care of our own homeless vets.

You can scale production very quickly in china, hundreds of thousands of workers in weeks instead of many months in the US. Then you have to deal with worker rights and unions as well.

There is also that story about when jobs decided to have glass on the original iphone only weeks before launch, the company he gave the contract to already started building quarters for workers during negotiations. Imagine how long that would have taken in USA.
