UTF-8 enabled by default in Red Hat 8 and up caused some characters like the single-quote to not display properly.

The reason for systemd is that it makes maintaining your system easier, it boots faster and it can figure out how to boot correctly for you so you don't have to specify more than the dependencies.

Microkernel
standard driver interface
Real real-time support
Built-in VCS
/etc/* manager
unified directory structure
loading o/so/a files from current directory
better ACL management

so make it into a proper operating system

this would be a bad move financially

aah if only the whole world spoke in exactly 256 character types, i'd be up for this for more than just linux.
>>
>>52491645
But how often do you play those?
I have a harddrive with windows for the two times a year I get together with friends to play old games.
New games work fine on linux, There is no reason to not use this linux as your main kernel.

GTA 5,fallout 4,skyrim,warframe,payday 2,ARMA 3,rocket league and more are some of the most play games on steam just at it's top, people aren't just to to up and leave games they put so much investment into, even friends they made there they ant play if if they which an OS.

This a problem for any software project.
We all use ssh, and when we find a bug, it gets fixed for all users.
I don't see the problem here.
It is not like systemd is worse in any way on that front.

I feel worthless when using an OS that puts users into two worlds:

Complacent luser that only needs a computer for facebook
and
LEET TERMINAL HAXXOR LOL SCREEN+EMACS LIFE XDDDD GET PWNED TO /DEV/NOOB XD

Maybe "go use windows" wasn't the right shitpost
It should have been "go use OS X"

Windows is actually LITERALLY the only operating system that still treats professional users like human beings instead of retro-fanboy subhumans that are complacent with a horrible virtual fascimile of outdated tech now that freedesktop.faggots has subjected X to a slow and horrible death. No other modern OS does remote applications even close to right.
>>
>>52492063
>Windows is actually LITERALLY the only operating system that still treats professional users like human beings
they literally advertise with 2 year old children. the documentation is garbage, there are no manuals on system components and the tech support is in india.

FOSS projects "worth mentioning" are redhat/ubuntu-backed FOSS projects so duh

all it takes for a project to matter is being the default in RH/ubuntu. see: gnome dominance.

why would they contribute to a software ecosystem they hate?

Most systemd haters use other inits and avoid GNOME like the plague

unless they're trolling
>>
>>52492406
Why are they so unhappy then?
>>
>>52492424
bacause more and more programs and things they like start having dependencies of systemd, see gnome and wayland.
>>
>>52492424
Because their projects are dying. The push for the year of the linux desktop keeps bringing in more and more OS X rejects, and linux keeps becoming more and more OS X like. Old school user-programmers are being displaced by normies and "Certified" enterprise guys that actually enjoyed SAP consulting at some point. One by one, the old school guys are leaving for OS X, because while it is bloat, it is actually pretty finished compared to linux bloat. NeXT has had since the early 90s to grow into something that works well, after all.

Why do the systemd fags never address the very concrete and specific problems with it that are pointed out even if they are handed to them on a plate, making nothing but vague at best, or altogether empty, but pseudo-smug remarks? Anyone who actually read what's stated at the provided links and has even half a brain would not call it "sheer philosophy".
