When I defragment my HDD there are still a number of files marked as fragmented. There have been times where I've defragmented my HDD and it said there was a total of 9 gigabytes of fragments afterwards. I am using defraggler on its default settings. Should I adjust something?
Everybody filters the sticky. Posting that shit hides this thread.
Reposting from the old thread:
>My stock intel cooler is running way too high for some reason and it's making a lot of noise, even though my temps are fine. Also it only starts running after like 5 minutes after booting, should I be worried? How can I fix this?
Can you recommend me a passively cooled GPU that can handle madVR debanding?
Around 50€ if possible.
It sounds like the motherboard isn't properly adjusting the fan to compensate for thermal performance. Just a random thought, did you plug it into the CPU fan slot and not just a regular fan slot?
I'm looking for an upgrade to my Asus T100. Can someone recommend me the best lightweight, under 13" hybrid Laptop/Tablet for around £500? Really I just want something with a touchscreen.
I'm leaning towards the Lenovo Yoga 700 because it's fanless and shit and won't warm up my lap whilst I'm using it but just wondering if the performance might be a bit shit as a result. I could live with it if it's not too bad, it uses a Core M3-6y30 processor. Not really a fan of the Surface and after something that can handle the occasional more intensive task
Yep, I did. I read on Toms Hardware forums that this is a common problem with Intel coolers, due to it working only at 12 volts the motherboard tries different voltages before it gets up to 12. But, usually it gets the right voltage after 30-40 seconds, but I just booted up my PC and as I'm typing this post it still hasn't started spinning.
CPU temps are ok though, 40C without a cooler running with chrome on is fine.
I just noticed that when my CPU hits a temp higher than 40 degrees the cooler starts spinning at 2700rpm and wont slow down. I have an asus mb, but I don't remember an option in the bios saying "Start cooler only after 40C". Should I just update my bios?
passively cooled GPUs are garbage. just buy second hand if you really want that, so that you can get at least some decent price
pic is my configuration for my CPU
as you can see, my fan only turns on when the system is 30ºC or above. You can set this to a higher temperature like 40ºC or even 50ºC and it will still be safe.
forgot the pic. also meant GPU not CUP
you can configure all of this with MSI Afterburner
I doubt it can handle madvr.
If playback was my only issue I'd buy a Pi.
>buy second hand if you really want that
That was my plan.
But that tool looks handy, I'll look into this. Thanks.
Need help with streaming videos from http source uaing vlc.
So, the situation is, I'm trying to stream video from a server using vlc. The site is password protected, so I have to enter my username and password in order to watch the video. The problem is, the stream will stop itself randomly and after that it asks the username and password again. After I enter them, the stream starts from the beginning. I played around with the buffer settings in vlc, but I can't get it working. I can download the files and play them locally, but streaming them would be more convinient. Does anyone have a solution for this?
Sorry for long post, and english is not my first language so I hope you understand.
I swear it's my CPU making the awful grinding sound, even after changing out the fan.
With constant crashes to BSOD stating a clock interrupt was not received on the secondary processor I think it's time to retire it, but I'm curious about what is making it malfunction and possibly be making weird sounds with supposedly no moving parts.
It's possible my MOBO is sending funny out-of-sync signals to the fan because of its readings of the X4 compared to my old X2 which is causing the sound, only thing I can think of.
AMD Phenom II X4 965
>3 Mbps should be enough for 720p
>maybe like 5 Mbps
yeah, no way i can stream, then. thanks anyway.
if the website is on this list :
you can use youtube-dl to return a direct stream URL using the -g option.
it also has authentication options.
100kbps is only 12.5KB/s - less than dual-link ISDN from the 90s. You will be able to send audio at a pretty good quality, but you have far too little upstream to be able to send video at anything above 90s-era Yahoo! Webcam VGA slideshow/blockfest quality.
You need a bigger pipe. That's a joke: that's just three analogue modems glued together, at best.
Using a small air compressor to dust out the pc y/n?
What should i be looking for in one?
I bought my first SSD, a samsung evo 850 and was wondering what I should know about general ssd usage and stuff in windows 7. I know not to defrag and trim should be enabled. Do I need to update the firmware and shit too?
read the sticky
maybe a used Surface Pro 3? not sure about pounds sterling
>CPU making the awful grinding sound
That's not how solid state electronics work. Maybe PSU fan or HDD?
>Using a small air compressor to dust out the pc y/n?
Y, though be careful around the fans because you can fuck up the bearings.
I have a reference GTX 960 that I bought stupid cheap from a friend, and it wasn't until recently that I put it in a SFF build that I realized how loud it was.
Look up aftermarket coolers returns these fuck-huge monstrosities--any smaller, cheaper alternatives out there, including homebrews?
Thanks for the suggestion but as I said I'm not really a fan of the Surface. I don't see why they don't have a more conventional keyboard that has some weight to it so it can balance the device without the need of a kickstand
How could I set up a filter so that only certain frequencies and higher would go to the main speakers and everything lower goes to a subwoofer?
For example: every frequency 45hz and higher go to the tower speakers and everything lower is filtered to the subwoofers. Is this possible?
It's not on the same network, it's a cheap shared box I rent from seedhost.eu. Downloading smaller files isn't really a problem, but I recently watched a 19 gb movie and downloading it took quite a bit, so if I could stream video I wouldn't have to wait for the file to download.
hi guys I know it might not be the best time to upgrade GPUs but I can get a evga 970 for less than $300 usd before tax, should I get it? my current graphics card is a hd 6950 ( g3d mark 3.2k)
Kind of odd the the PSU fan would make the same awful sound with the same processor but different fans, but maybe I'll buy it.
the HDD bays are on the other side of a fairly large case, and I can hear that it's not coming from over there.
Looking into buying one of these so I can finally move my computer away from TV and still use Kodi. Is the $30 increase worth the extra GB of ram? Have these boxes been known to slow down or freeze with just 1GB? I'm mostly going to be using it for 720p playback but occasionally some 1080p stuff.
Shit sorry guys. I haven't done anything with drivers. I figured it would run generic drivers until I installed them. Id have to install my old gpu to install the drivers and then install the new one again. Would that work?
The gpu has the 4 + 2 pin power cable in it, and I think it also gets power from the mobo connection right?
Computer is definitely plugged in... I think..
Hi /g/. I am looking for a piece of hardware that will allow me to use a webcam elsewhere in my house and have it connected to my computer. Does such a thing exist where a webcam can be wireless and transmit its data to a computer? Maybe even just a wireless USB adapter that can be plugged into a wall?
don't wanna trail cables around house, and I wanna have a webcam somewhere else, help?
Forget it, I found what I was looking for.
Is it ok to plug a surge protector into the NON-BATTERY side of a UPS?
Fixed my issue, I simply updated my bios.
Also my cpu is 3-4 degrees hotter, but I guess that was just the MBs fault since every other temp program showed me that it was like 6 degrees higher than in the bios.
Guys I think my GPU fan and is quickly turning on and off
that's happening constantly even in IDLE
Also, yesterday I left my PC to eat something and when I came back my PC was frozen at the post screen
Do I need to read this, then?

NORMIES GET OUT REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
But to answer your question, it looks like you do need the "app".
Just get the "app", create your account, then uninstall.
My nexus 5's power button appears to be broken, refusing it to boot.
How much would a repair for this cost?
And what are other quite good smartphones in the market right now?
Was thinking of a xiaomi or maybe a Jolla phone if this doesn't work out
My archaeology boss is about to retire and I want to burn him DVDs of the archeo show "Time Team". There are 20 seasons, lots of info to type in manually.
Is there a DVD authoring program that allows you to import season and episode information such as title and descriptions from sources like IMDB and TVDB to populate your DVD menus? Make the discs navigable?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

i want to know, is there a way to set the names automatically? like forcing the save box to have a name automatically.
Anyone running Canary here? Is this thing entirely fucked for you to or is it on my end?
Good way to benchmark for future titles with real games? Iv been trying to see where my graphic card will fall on the latter when the new cards hit so Iv been using talos principle demo as a base game since it runs on a next gen serious engine 4( like Cryengine,unreal4 etc.) and it's unbiased to both AMD and nvidia as a game.
I bought a can of air from Walmart and every once and a while if I hold it at the right angle liquid will come out. It evaporates almost instantly, but it still worries me.
Anyone know what it might be and if it could be harmful to a computer?
you're not supposed to be plugging any power strip into another power strip. However, if you're mindful of how many amps you're pulling through one socket, you should be fine. I have a powerstrip plugged into my UPS that is just for the DC transformers, it only draws a couple of amps AC so it isn't a big deal.
So I just tried to install the unofficial CM12.1 ROM on my phone. I performed the factor reset with twm. Then I flashed the ROM and the GApps. I rebooted the System and then I got multiple errors; that Plays newsstand has crashed, android pay has crash, Play store has stopped working etc and my Setup Wizard has crashed. I cant finish the setup.
as far as i know, there's a new blackberry which has a slidable physical keyboard but costs quite a bit. the jolla phone does have kinda old hardware, but it went down in price to 199€ now and recently received the 2.0 update.
How do Oneplus Icons compare to other IEMs in that price range, like the HiSoundAudio Crystals or Astrotec AM-800 or the ADV.SOUND M4s?
Also, can I make my choice of IEMs exclusively with the reviews from this site http://theheadphonelist.com/ ?
Is this guy legit?
I am doing a group project with around 6 classmates, and we need some sort of database for storing user information. None of us have very much experience with database technology and we have around 8 weeks to complete our project, so we need something with a pretty small learning curve. We don't need something very feature rich, as we really do not have very much information that we need to actually store externally.
Looking for a server to host a website, cant find any reputable looking sites and most places look like the call lines in the back of seedy magazines

Not from the US but I heard godaddy is pretty okay
How do the rar Recovery Records work with multiple files? I'm thinking about splitting a 500gb file into 10 5gb pieces using 10% for Recovery Records. Will the Recovery Record be stored in part 101-110? And am I able to recover it if I'm loosing 10 parts e.g. 71-80?
Long story short, I have an old DSlite now. I'm looking to buy an r4 card so I can pirate some games, and I don't know what sites to trust.
Are there any sites you guys can vouch for that ship from the US? /v/ was of no help, by the by.
I installed Linux Mint around four months ago.
Since last December I have had little to no audio, meaning with everything I can possibly find to increase the volume at its highest, I can just barely hear something that resembles my music. I cannot figure out why it is doing this, nor can I figure out how to fix it. Any of you /g/entoomen have any ideas as to why or how to fix this?
Switchin to Ubuntu after years of exclusive Windows use. Is there a program analogous to winrar that lets me decompress .rar/.zip/.tar/tar.gz/etc files via left click? I'm tired of going into the terminal for this stuff. thanks
If I buy a TeamViewer Business license in my company will I be able to pass it around to multiple colleagues (say 10+ colleagues)? Or will I run into some kind of limitation after I transfer it around too much?
I've managed to start this chink tablet in recovery mode, got a sd card with zipped firmware image but it isn't there.
If i'm not mistaken it should be visible in "apply update from external storage" menu, but all that's there are some empty android folders, LOST.DIR, DCIM and the like.
Is it because it's not rooted or does this fucker not recognize sd card at all, and his "external storage" is really his internal memory?
It displays the same folders with or without the card inserted.
I'm doing some image classification using PCA. Which of these is right? I'm assuming (and hoping) it's B, but I'm not sure.
Also, I run PCA once per class, right? Not just over the whole training group at once?
If that's a Mediatek based chink phone, you should be able to flash it using mtkdroidtools or the official Mediatek flashtool. Bricking those devices is impossible, I've managed to resurrect a bricked MTK device from an obscure brand by literally flashing random roms from similar devices until I found a working one (which wasn't even from the same device but from another clone that was sold in fucking India of all places).
How does Windows 10 "Digitally Activated" license work? I have upgraded from legit Windows 8, will I be able to transfer this license to another computer or will I have to go back and install fucking Windows 8 again and then upgrade?

Using youtube-dl.exe, how can I download *only the video* part of a Vorbis/VP8 audio/video webm that is listed in the available formats? It there a way I can tell it to extract and save just the video, like it already can do with the audio?
I want to be able to upload silent webms to 4chan straight from youtube without reencoding

What is with the current trend to rewrite everything in Go? Don't get me wrong, I love it as a language; but I don't see the need to have a 'golang' branch on nearly every OSS project these days, especially when they were written and complete in another language to begin with. Is it just inherently better for some tasks?
Are you using par/par2?
In that case separate files are generated (.par/.par2).
par2 is (iirc, it's been a while since i've done this) equally spaced so you can repair any 10% corrupted _blocks_ given provided that the corruptions are equally spaced as well.
It is a), your data is only rotated to align the principal axis.
As for the second question, did you even look into your classification problem?
If you transform the feature space differently for each (labeled / training) class, how the fuck should your algorithm know which transformation to apply for unlabeled points?
ergo; no, once for the entire training group. train on transformed data (thats what its for).
Then transform each testing point and apply your classifier to transformed feature space.
(Is this an mlmi course?)
Is an anti-static wristband necessary when putting together a PC?
Do applications usually work across linux distros without the need to port them?
Say I have an application like a word processor on mint, could I just take that install it on ubuntu, arch or whatever and have a reasonable expectation it should work?
Safe mode is the only way my computer is usable until I fix the issue which may require shipping a new part.
Is there a way to enable sound? The drivers or whatever make it function are disabled.
Assuming I don't have a specialized need for a higher number, would two partitions be enough for general use in Windows 7? It's mainly for organization that I'm looking into it; I'm going to reinstall the OS on my laptop soon and, looking through my folders, I now realize what a horrid clusterfuck my current organizational scheme is. (It's a 1TB drive; my thought was 100GB for OS and applications and the rest for other stuff.)
(That and, should I get around to putting Linux on this machine [I've tested the waters in VirtualBox before], it'll be easier to have all of my media off in its own section already. Maybe partitioning it this way will help motivate me to switch.)
There's no point in partitioning for that reason. If you ver want to move stuff between artitions instead of being a simple move, it's now like copying between two separate HDD's, pain in the ass.
if you are running multiple os' then yeah obviously partition.
Ok I'm buying this off my friend for 30 cause he's trying to get rid of it. It's already been cleaned and managed so don't freak out, but what gpu is this? because he doesn't know. He's currently not in town so he can't check. The only gpu that looks similar to this that i have found is the 7990.
Anyone mess with bbLean? Its my first time using it and it seems cool, however my bar at top seems to be glitching out. Anyone know how to fix this?
What do? It's the cheap tablet from amazon
ubuntu is very easy to use but a bit bloated, xubuntu has xfce which can be made very pretty and is lightweight but out of the box is a bit ugly. xubuntu is also a bit bloated as it's based on ubuntu. Debian is a bit less "it just werks" but is still pretty easy to use, and is a lot more lightweight. Mint is another easy to use distro, it comes by default with cinnamon, which is a nice compromise between xfce and unity (ubuntu de).
In Linux, I connect to an OpenVPN network that has a DNS that resolves everything in the domain '*.personal.domain'.
However, the client still resolves everything using its own DNS server. So when I do an nslookup for 'test.personal.domain', it cannot resolve it.
How can I tell my system to use a specific DNS server when trying to resolve '*.personal.domain'?
Need to learn opencv with python very quickly, unfortunately its still developing and the documentation I can find sucks, anyone have suggestions on resources?
NSA uses a lot of backdoors, but most of the time they target the large infrastructure, like an entire ISP, so they get all user data instead of going on every computer trying to put a backdoor (hardware or software)
thanks for the links my rudimentary google skills couldn't find shit

Whenever I play sound there is a buzz in my headphones and if I stop the sound, there is a quiet high pitch for a few seconds and stops. I have reinstalled my sound driver, and have checked it's not my headphones. On a toshiba laptop.
I get that f.lux adjusts color temperature by location and time, but what if I don't see the light of day and don't use lighting? What do? Is there something supposedly better for my eyes (I don't feel any immediate problems) or maybe preserve some night vision?
Except it doesn't create a fucking event handler.
What am I doing wrong here?
Uploading thread starters, by the way.
I made them just for you, onii-chan~ <3
99% all the same.
Depends on the resolution you are using. e.g. 1080p, 720p, 1440p or others.
If 1080p or less, Use only DVI, do not use VGA (AKA "the older one").
'Display Port' > HDMI > DVI > VGA.
Turn it off, watch the gpu fan while you turn the pc on. Did you change anything recently? Updates, drivers, settings, install anything new?
Back your shit up, you can do a hdd test on it but this decreases the life span. Catch 22, can tell it's dieing without hurting it.
Don't worry, it's fine.
Is there a media center like plex or kodi that supports enough files that i wont need to transcode anything? If not can i stop plex or kodi from transcoding and just not playing the video if it cant handle it?
I want to make a basic 3D game where I play as a 3D ball, and move him with the arrow keys and advance a level every time I touch a green box. What do I do first? I assume render the ball in blender, but do I need Unity, and if I do, Can I get that in Debian Linux?
Just upgraded Waterfox from 40.1.0 to the latest one.

%'s can too but they can't kick/ban @'s

I'm having difficulty creating undo/redo methods for a word processor I'm creating in JavaFX. How do I go about creating one? I've studied the Command Pattern but I'm still unsure how to implement one of my own that would enable me to create these methods. Because 'pirates' get the booty from any 'port'.
Go ahead, just read the manuals when you need help.
RAID1 - when you save something, it is saved to 2 drives Instead of just 1. if one of these drives dies, other still OK. This is not a backup, only protects in case your physical fucking drives dies. If you overwright something, your still fucked cuz it was overwritten on 2 drives. RAID0 - shit loads faster, but if just 1 drive physically dies/corrupt/deleted, all your shit is gone, backups are required even more frequently.
RAID5 and 6- similar to RAID1 but more drives can die before you are fucked.
RAID10 = RAID0 + RAID1.
RAID helps protect from drives deaths, YOU STILL NEED TO BACKUP YOUR STUFF. RAID does not protect you from Corruption, file deletion, malware and more, just for drive deaths.
Going to go the easier route and say get an add-on that changes the "new tab page" to a site you choose, then spend 15 mins watching YouTube on how to code HTML and make yourself the most simple website that is 100% blank but with a black background. Something like <html> <bgcolor = FFFFFF> </html>.
I'm getting a problem in Linux Mint on my Acer Aspire ES1-531. I've set it to suspend when I close the lid of the laptop but after a while it will wake itself up and starting cooking itself in my bag and eating up battery life. What can I do to stop that?

All AMD would be ideal.
I would just set the brightness down on your screen. Also you don't know you are getting cancer until it is to late.

NORMIES GET OUT
If you install Linux it should automatically install GRUB to let you boot to either your first OS or Linux. Same with Apple which has Bootcamp. Don't even have to go near the Bios.
So i just install something (gentoo for example) and it installs grub? So no extra hassle? Do i need to remove my primary os' drive for the installation in case of something fucking up?
Do you have enough swap space? Suspending takes a lot of space, also check settings for if it should wake up after a certain amount of time.
It is that simple, safety tip, before installing new os to new drive, make sure to disconnect your original drive, just so you don't install to that one by mistake.
Motherboards mean too much. If you are going to use a graphics card, make sure your motherboard has at least a "PCIe 3.0 16x slot". Ideal in all situations are at least 2 " SATA 6Gb/s" ports, for your drives.
Not remove, just disconnect your main one. Doing this will prevent accidentally messing your main one up, just to be on the safe side. But yes when you install GNU/Linux it will come with 'GRUB' which will let you choose what to boot to each time.
You could use -d to change the delay and see the use over the delay length. Otherwise you could try piping the output out or making a script. But this is just the only one I personally know about, there may be more out there.
>thinking 4chan isn't a place full of normies
2007 is 9 years ago. What is wrong with you?
Sorry I meant motherboards do NOT mean too much. DDR4 is the future, but it will not work for your CPU, don't worry though the difference between DDR3 and DDR4 is like 5FPS in games at best, and in normal web browsing and stuff means literally no difference. What are you doing with your comp? Games? Web browsing?
for games, yea. And I wanted to set it up so that it would work well with games in the future. I didn't realize that it didn't work with my CPU, DDR3 it is then.
I was looking at this one - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130801&cm_re=motherboard_lga_1150-_-13-130-801-_-Product
Not too familiar with mint but look in settings. I also found this if it applies to you: http://www.linuxandlife.com/2012/07/how-to-customize-power-management-in.html?m=1 . Also there seems to be a popular program for laptop battery management called 'TLP', looks to have the settings you are looking for.
I'm looking for a new 1440p monitor and don't want to pay out my ass. I currently have a qnix that has no dead pixels, overclocks to 110hz and has some backbleeding on the bottom right. The problem is I took off the stock stand and when I hooked it up to it's VESA mount I fucking used super glue because I was too stupid to find some washers and ever since my monitor has been at a stupid fucking angle that bugs the piss out of me.
I was looking at the monoprice 27" 1440p monitor, is it good?
Minimal difference, I would have the fan splitter plugged into the CPU_fan header with everything else plugged into that, in this way when your CPU gets hot the whole system will take notice.
Go for it, takes some work but it is fun. And if Gentoo is say too much a pain, you can just install any other GNU/Linux distribution over it
Go for an R9 380. You'll be much more happy.
Does any kind anon know a good website / book to learn python?
ssd's make old computers fly, definately try a pata ssd in it (pata isn't as slow as people think, late-generation pata can do 133MB/s, which your original laptop hdd couldn't hope to acheive)
makemkv + ffmpeg (optional)
makemkv to decrypt it and dump the title(s) to single mkv's (no transcoding), ffmpeg if you want to compress those further (say to make smaller h.264 versions)
I'm looknig for a name of an application, it was big on /b/ in like 2007, it was an image scrambler that could scramble parts of an image, but then could be undone by others in the same program, does anyone know what this was called or similar programs?
Okay so I'm building a gaming rig(I've built only one before myself) for my friend and I'm saving money buy just letting him use my old HD but I have a few questions on the install
(Windows 7 home premium 64-bit)
Do I need to completely whipe it using the og pc first?
I don't have the disk but I have my product key so can I put win on an external HD or does it have to be from the dvd drive/USB stick? To boot from bios
What will happen if I just rip it out and plug it in and see what happens? I'm fairly certain it won't work but I'm curious.
