I often can't even comprehend code. Even relatively simple blocks of code sometimes just don't process. There's no mental model of what's going on and why being formed in my head, I just stare at the screen and draw blanks. Sometimes I wish I could "mind read" an intelligent person and experience their thinking process and learn from it. I want to understand how they form and explore their thoughts. Do they have a mental picture, a diagram of what's going on? Are they thinking in verbal terms? How does it all work and connect?

It doesn't help that I'm a mental midget and would rather shitpost or play vidya for hours and hours than do something that requires using my brain. I really wish I had the drive to have intellectually engaging hobbies. I have to force myself to do them because I'm too dumb to seek out enjoy the activity naturally. I have an interest in programming and computer science and yet the thought of actually doing it is for some reason incredibly unappealing to the point of I would rather sit in bed doing literally nothing all day, thinking about doing the activity but never doing it. Every time I muster up the motivation open up my IDE I leave wanting to kill myself after only writing a hundred lines of spaghetti code in 2 fucking hours.

I'm from North America.

And what I'm saying is that I am not interested in what someone does in their personal life, but I don't appreciate music which glorifies violence and drug abuse. I tend to regard such things as unfortunate vices of many musicians, not part of the art they produce.

Are you not able to distinguish between the personal life of an artist and their art itself?

Videogames or movies rarely glorify violence, there's usually a good motive behind it, e.g., to defeat a bad guy, they teach you violence is sometimes necessary to solve a problem, but they generally don't glorify violence.

tl;dr is highlighted, but here you go anyway.

we need to know all possible configuration with distinct number of nodes across the channels,
and keep track of how often such a configuration exists (which is a much smaller number than k n ). Write a recursive
program, called ConfigurationCounting that does this job.

Example given with 3 Nodes, 2 Channels
3 Nodes, 2 Channels:
1 set(s) with occupancies: 0 3
3 set(s) with occupancies: 1 2
3 set(s) with occupancies: 2 1

After computing all the possible products reduce to find the number of occurences of each channel into a multiset of each node permutation.

For your example...
find products using a recursive product finding algo:
000
001
010
011
100
101
110
111

reduce each permutation to a count of each channel:
000 => 3 0
001 => 2 1
010 => 2 1
011 => 1 2
100 => 2 1
101 => 1 2
110 => 1 2
111 => 0 3

add all reduced values to a multiset (counter, bag, whatever you want to call it)
(3, 0) => 1
(2, 1) => 3
(1, 2) => 3
(0, 3) => 1

There's your answer.

This is wrong. The recursive method would make assumptions in order to find last cases (if a channel has 0 nodes, then the number of ways the other channel can hold the remaining nodes is 1. If a channel has 1 node, then the number of ways to hold all nodes is the number of nodes). More channels/nodes would call the recursive number on a smaller number of nodes through careful assumptions

>>52455186
There are no assumptions being made. The recursive algo does arbitrary-radix counting until a carry falls off the front end. That covers all possible permutations of node to channel.

The products
000
001
010
011
100
101
110
111
are which channel each node is subscribing to. So 000 means A chooses channel 0, B chooses channel 0, and C chooses channel 0. Not which channel is selected, which I think is where your confusion came from.

The reduce counts the number of nodes that subscribe to each channel for all channels. That tuple becomes an index in a counter set.
>>
>>52455362
Yes, I know how your algorithm works. I'm telling you that is not the recursive method in its traditional sense. Just because you are doing something repeatedly does not make it a recursive method
>>
>>52455221

i made a program to figuratively draw rectangles. get on my level.
>>
>>52455400
Traditional sense?

The product function can be recursive and the reduce and set add can be done inline instead of as a post-processing step. There is only one function necessary. That seems pretty recursive to me.
>>
>>52455525
>There is only one function necessary
That doesn't mean it's recursive though. Where are your last cases? Where does your function call itself with reduced input in order to resolve itself through those last cases?
>>
>>52455570
function CartesianProduct(l)
local p = {}
local function f(d)
d = d or 1
if d > #l then
coroutine.yield(p)
else
for i = 1, #l[d] do
p[d] = l[d][i]
f(d+1)
end
end
end
return coroutine.wrap(f)
end

And instead of yielding I'd do the processing and return the result set. p and the result set can be carried around by function parameter instead of by closure. The result set would be returned by the function, only to be passed into the recursive call the next iteration.

Unless there is some super specific acedemic definition I don't know or care about, this is recursive.
>>
>>52455657
Oh and the function should take another parameter to show the number of nodes to stop at so if d > #l would become if d > n.

I'm not going to write it for you.
