Philips SHP9500 vs Sennheiser HD 558 Trying to decide....I play

Neither of them has much bass at all but HD 558 has better frequency response extension and more linear response. I'd pick it over SHP9500.

Hd558. Do the foam removal mod. Turns them into hd598. Same driver and housing. Good deal

I can only recommend this headset for movies/gaming for extended hours because they are comfortable as fuck to wear and you won't get listener fatigue. Decent bass? Not really. That's what Sony MDRs are for.

If you want to be awesome like me, you will add Earforce DSS for sweet surround sound. /g/ never mentions this for some odd reason.

I have the 558's and they're fucking amazing. I also play cs and they work great, same with music. They're very comfy too. 10/10 would buy again. btw i did the foam mod.

I have 518s, but they're fairly similar to the 558 and 598. Personally I prefer the Philips, perhaps not as much bass (I wouldn't call it a huge difference) but they sound better overall, they're more open (some people say that helps for games), and they're ridiculously comfortable.

I didn't believe it either until I tried it. After all, how can you get surround from just 2 speakers? But someone posted here awhile ago something that made sense. "How many ears do you have? How many eardrums do you have in each ear?".

Is it better than an actual surround sound system? Not really. But if you're on a budget and want movie/gaming in surround, or you're stuck with roommates or a cheap apartment and don't want piss off anyone, it's a fucking God send.

don't know the HD558 so I don't know about them
but you won't regret getting the SHP

HD558, it's more accurate thus being higher fidelity than the Philips. The Philips is also discontinued and is being sold than a higher than normal price.
