Quick question for all of you. I'm a neophyte to PC building but would this build be adequate for 3d modeling, 3d/2d animation, game developing, and gaming?
I have a budget of about $1,300

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MRdm6h

The NZXT S340 case is a placeholder for the Phanteks Eclipse P400. I'm not really sure what kind of keyboard and mouse to get as well, I always hear about mechanical keyboards so I'll probably get one of those...

I use my phone for a hotspot, and have done so for a few years now. A while back I replaced the battery with an aftermarket, and the specs were a bit off but it connected just fine. Oh, it wasn't made to be user replaceable, by the way.

Anyhow, on the odd occasion that I do go anywhere, when I get to using my phone to any degree, it shuts off due to the battery crapping out.

Is there anything I can do about it? Short of another full replacement.

I don't recommend cyanogen, I recently installed 12.1 on my sm-g900p (sprint gs5) and its a little unstable.
What seems like Memory leaks every now and then, the touch screen and buttons become unresponsive and I have to pull the battery.
Happens more often using clover than any other app. I haven't fucked with it much either, the only root apps on it are xmodgames and supersu. Also the over clocking settings seem to be gone, and Samsung's keyboard was way better.
But in terms of privacy its fine. Just don't install that crap Google now shit, I did and it tells me shit when I get to work and stuff

You could potentially run a liquid hydrogen or potentially even a helium loop in a much less insulated compartment of a space craft alongside a secondary transfer medium. (though you would be running it pretty close).

Was wondering whether or not to make a thread about this but:

Got a second XFX 280x for crossfire. Was running 15.11 crimson drivers, enabled crossfire and every 30 seconds everything would crash with an 'amd display driver error'.

So then I used ATIWinflash to flash a new (identical for both cards) vBIOS to them.

Now, windows starts ok using the iGPU, with a second monitor on the 280x. However, anything remotely graphically intensive results in the second monitor turning light blue with dark blue vertical lines, and a complete system freeze.

What do? (I tried cleanly installing new drivers before flashing vBIOS to no avail)

windows licenses have a number of activations permitted. They're spent whenever a particular pc (identified by hardware) connects to the Microsoft servers (by using Windows update for instance). That activation will be spent when you connect the second pc, simply because it's not the same hardware. If the number of activations hasn't reached the limit you'll be fine, if not you'll get an error message when you check activations status.

it's mainly for isolation if you get interference from your onboard sound, and also for extra/specialized outputs
>>
>>52429627
>but does it make it better like a GPU does for graphics?
Sooort of. A better GPU lets you set the graphics settings higher because it has more computational power for graphics-related tasks that a CPU. A soundard does the same, but for sound. However, for a video game, sound generally isn't the bottleneck, since you're just playing audio files, not doing a whole lot of processing. They were useful back when just playing audio (i.e. decompressing it) was too computationally intensive for the CPU, so that if you had one, you could e.g. increase your graphics settings. But these days, you don't generally need one, since the CPU is more than good enough at handling audio. If your CPU is maxing out, then a better CPU would almost certainly be a better investment then a sound card.

So unless you need extra outputs for audio or something like that, don't bother.

I ordered Gskill Ares ram for my computer as an upgrade. 2x8GB sticks rated at 1866. When installed into my computer they were running at 1333 speed. They were plugged into dual channel and everything, i went into my UEFI and changed the speed to 1866 and it now runs at 1866.

I'm just wondering if this is considered an overclock and its not running at recommended speed? did i get 1333 ram somehow? the product page shows 1866 for sure. I also read somewhere that for some higher rated RAM you need to go into the bios\uefi and do what I did.

Hi, /sqt/

I did fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate and Mint 17.3 on an old laptop. I noticed that when using Windows, the wifi tends to disconnect rather frequently, I think more often when I'm downloading stuff. This doesn't happen on Mint though.
What could be the cause? Is that a driver problem?

99% of what you learn in school academically is useless. What matters:

>internships and coops

Focus on the first two things -- learning some garbage from a couple of courses isn't going to magically launch your career.

Okay /g, I want your oppinion.
I bought an Alpenföhn Ben Nevis CPU cooler for my AMD FX 8320e. The cooler itself wouldn't fit on my MB no matter how much you looked, but I didn't want to use the boxed cooler.
So I google my problem and find a forum thread, where some poor chap has the same problem but the people there tell him "Hurr, you're an idiot, the cooler will fit, just use force." and he end up breaking his MB.
So I used some small rubber spacers to make the cooler fit, but I'm not 100% sure if I should keep it. It does it's job, currently keeping the CPU at 25°, but I don't know if it will hold up if I try to OC the CPU.
I still have 7 days left to return it, what would you do?

Anyway, thank you for the quick answer. I just checked the shop where I bought my stuff and the 212 evo is 3 bucks more then the Ben Nevis. Gonna keep that in mind.

I merely mentioned that I was a CS student "looking for an internship this summer" and she did the rest. Heck she even got paid for recruiting me through the company's referral program. I am going to get a new PC soon, and I want to transfer all my files onto it via an external hard drive. I have it plugged into my MB USB port, and decided to make two back ups. One as a .7z file, the other letting windows do its back up onto the ED.

My stupid question is, can I transfer over the .7z file onto the ED while windows is doing its thing on the ED? I don't want any trouble with missing files or some shit like that

I have an MPEG4 video in a .webm container and a .opus track, but these cannot be combined into the .webm since it does not support opus.

What container should I use to combine the a/v tracks, and can I do so losslessly? Right now the only software I have is youtube-dl and ffmpeg.

int x, y;

cin >> x;

cin >> y;

if ((x % 2 != 0) && (y != 0))
{
x = x / y;
cout << "\nx / y is\n" << x << "\n";
}

So I declared x as an int, but I want to make it a double in my if statement. I don't want to use a new variable that is a double to accept x / y or (double)x / y or whatever, I want x to be assigned the answer without the numbers after the decimal being truncated.

What do?

Wait for the HP Zbook 15 G3 or a TP P50?
I'm studying engineering, haven't started any CAD courses but I need a laptop that's gonna last over 5 years. P50 seems really good at $1300 but G3 seems good with Firepro

Also, pirate MS Office or get a license?

Any alternative? The main reason I used it was because it automatically finds beta versions of apps.

Where did you get that?
All those "beta" apps are cracked version on the legit apps + whatever they add in.
>>
>>52436960

Because some apps has the 'THANKS FOR TRYING OUR BETA VERSION' blablabla, and that it what makes me think it downloads beta versions.

Are there any good tools out there for recovering unresponsive SD cards? Here's the deal: I have a Kingston 8GB Class 10 SD card which I flashed and installed a bootable Linux distro for Raspberry Pi (I think that was the Kodi thing). Long story short it never quite worked right, so it just sat there for a while. Now I'm trying to give the card some new use, when I plug it on my laptop's SD port, I can hear the "doo-dee" sound that Windows (7 Ultimate) makes when it detects new hardware, but nothing else happens. Checked on diskpart, nothing. (Kali) Linux doesn't detect it at all. Tried to use it on a digital camera, says "locked card". Is there a chance of saving it or should I just trash it?

What kind of wireless network card should you use?

USB or PCIe?

My computer will be around 36' away from the router.

Was looking at something like this:

Why doesn't /g/ like javascript?

Is there a substitute that match the functionality of it?
>>
>>52437025
Are you sure linux isn't detecting it? It might just not be able to mount it.

Does it show up in /var/logs/messages, fdisk -l, lsusb, or blkid?
If any of those detect it, you should be able to manually mount it. Then you just reformat it and it should be good.
>>
>>52437025
I had similar issue.
Asked around on /g/ told me the card is dead and move along.
As a last resort I put it in my phone "NOKIA", and was able to format it, and it worked like charm.

Probably, but if that's the problem then it's a shitty cable to start with. If all else fails, turn the phone off and charge for a bit to see if that helps.
