Is there a way to blacklist packages in Zypper/YAST?
For example, to prevent the utterly useless shit package K3B from being reinstalled during an update, how do I blacklist it after purging it in a cleansing light of purification?
as a CS major looking for an internship this summer. I feel as though what I learned in school still hasn't hit me yet in terms of real life applications. What kind of things should I study/focus on this upcoming semester to get my feet wet for the job market, my interest for now just seem to be software development
Is cyanogen still good, or did they go full proprietary?
Looking for a simple, essentially stock rom, but all the "pure stock roms" for my (verizon) phone have been shit.
Cyanogen always worked fairly well, are they still privacy respecting, and mostly free?
Quick question for all of you. I'm a neophyte to PC building but would this build be adequate for 3d modeling, 3d/2d animation, game developing, and gaming?
I have a budget of about $1,300
The NZXT S340 case is a placeholder for the Phanteks Eclipse P400. I'm not really sure what kind of keyboard and mouse to get as well, I always hear about mechanical keyboards so I'll probably get one of those...
>I feel as though what I learned in school still hasn't hit me yet in terms of real life applications.
Generally what you learn in school doesn't get applied 100% unless you're an engineer, doctor, or lawyer.
I use my phone for a hotspot, and have done so for a few years now. A while back I replaced the battery with an aftermarket, and the specs were a bit off but it connected just fine. Oh, it wasn't made to be user replaceable, by the way.
Anyhow, on the odd occasion that I do go anywhere, when I get to using my phone to any degree, it shuts off due to the battery crapping out.
Is there anything I can do about it? Short of another full replacement.
I understand that how much do you use certain aspects of CS? For example my school has a couple classes with an emphasis with LC3 operators and I don't really know how things like that will come up...
Hey I'm needing a USB wifi adapter to hopefully amplify my signal since wired isn't an option. Am I retarded for wanting to do this, and if not, do you have any suggestions for a budget?
Do you cycle it often?
Direct me to some simple research paper/information about botnets. I gotta make a research paper about them but Im not that knowledgable and the ones I've found have been too difficult to understand/too techy.
I don't recommend cyanogen, I recently installed 12.1 on my sm-g900p (sprint gs5) and its a little unstable.
What seems like Memory leaks every now and then, the touch screen and buttons become unresponsive and I have to pull the battery.
Happens more often using clover than any other app. I haven't fucked with it much either, the only root apps on it are xmodgames and supersu. Also the over clocking settings seem to be gone, and Samsung's keyboard was way better.
But in terms of privacy its fine. Just don't install that crap Google now shit, I did and it tells me shit when I get to work and stuff
You could potentially run a liquid hydrogen or potentially even a helium loop in a much less insulated compartment of a space craft alongside a secondary transfer medium. (though you would be running it pretty close).
Not that buying and custom fitting an entire spacecraft is a good way of going about overclocking, though you could probably have a blast shitposting with your benchmarks on /g/.
Noticable curvature of the penis is usually a result of scar tissue. Most penis curvatures are a result of the removal of the frenulum during circumcision and the associate scar (the discoloured line of skin running the length of the underside of your shaft.)
Thank your parents.
What would cause firefox to not use a profile saying its invalid, when there is no profile in the .mozilla folder when i remove my backup profile.
Restarting firefox does not generate a new profile either
can someone explain Big Data to me in some practical manner? I know it's basically just huge amounts of data, but what does that data look like? is it like one huge excel table?
pic related is apparently the daily edits IBM makes to wikipedia but it just looks like chinese to me.
Let's take into account all the searches made to google in a day, would that just look like an inmense set of strings? I'm having cognitive dissonance on what data actually is, maybe I'm just not seeing the abstract well.
Ok, I don't it'll be more unstable than the shitty "Stock" rom I was running up till now.
It's a snapshot too.
Oh well, I'll give it a try, worst case is it's unstable and I don't like it, rather than liking it, but not realizing it's evil.
So Avast just freaked the fuck out and claimed that /b/ was trying to give me a trojan, but it's also trying to get me to renew my free registration. Does this mean that it's actively lying to me, or is there some sort of funky jumpscare trojan hiding inside of thumbnails and whatever ads 4chan has?
Why is it legal to put awful dudebro techno music on porn compilation videos?
In fact why is it legal to put music at all on any porn video?
Why we're on it, when will America learn to make good porn?
Daz Loader, but get it from the original source because all the horror stories you hear about it being malware are from retards who download it from other sources.
If you're super paranoid about using it go to r/microsoftsoftwareswap and buy a windows key for like 20 bucks
When you're done with that, disable the autocorrect thingy on your phone.
What's a good, bloatless software for burning Blurays?
Was wondering whether or not to make a thread about this but:
Got a second XFX 280x for crossfire. Was running 15.11 crimson drivers, enabled crossfire and every 30 seconds everything would crash with an 'amd display driver error'.
So then I used ATIWinflash to flash a new (identical for both cards) vBIOS to them.
Now, windows starts ok using the iGPU, with a second monitor on the 280x. However, anything remotely graphically intensive results in the second monitor turning light blue with dark blue vertical lines, and a complete system freeze.
What do? (I tried cleanly installing new drivers before flashing vBIOS to no avail)
I have an 800 dollar budget to buy my first laptop that I'll be using for school.
The only preferences I have are:
>thin and light
>able to run average games
>screen at around 13 inches
Any laptops that /g/ recommends that fit this bill?
More broadly, if you had 800 dollars to blow on a laptop, what would you buy? I'm open to any suggestions.
so, i was in a thread looking at youtube embeds and they were working as normal and then i unembedded one and it was all fucked up looking and so i went to youtube and it looks like a 90s website and it tells me "this video is unavailable" on every single video.
i dindu nuffin. did not update anything, one minute it worked, the next, pic related.
i tried disabling my no-buffer add on, nope.
i tried restarting my browser (ff), nope.
other websites are normal. have any of you seen anything like this before?
I'm about to start building a gaymen pc. I'm going to purchase an old graphics card for now because I'm anticipating the coming generation of GPUs.
Am I okay to build the rest of the rig as normal, or are there special considerations I need to make to accommodate/take advantage of pascal?
Have integrated GPUs caught up enough to run games decently at low settings? I want to be able to do some gaming while I wait for the drop, but if I can save the money instead of buying a cheap discreet then that's good, too.
avast! is absolute shit, it will raise false flags every now and then just to get you to upgrade.
Install windows defender/MSE, mbam and Common Sense 2016 PRO suite. Keep your system updated too.
How do i get rid of the stupid white rectangle on google maps street view?
it depends. Intel ones suck some serious balls, an i5 is barely able to run indie games. 2005 and up 3D games? forget about it.
On the other hand, AMD apu's are pretty good, at least on desktop pc's. When it comes to laptops, A8 and up are decent enough to play most games on mid to low settings. Your laptop will burn like hell tho.
how did this bitch get popular on /g/?
windows licenses have a number of activations permitted. They're spent whenever a particular pc (identified by hardware) connects to the Microsoft servers (by using Windows update for instance). That activation will be spent when you connect the second pc, simply because it's not the same hardware. If the number of activations hasn't reached the limit you'll be fine, if not you'll get an error message when you check activations status.
I just downloaded foobar2000 and I'm trying to change thee theme of the program to the Zetro theme
I cant seem to get it to work. Anyone able to help an anon out?
I'm buying an Intel Core i5 4690, I don't plan to overclock, what motherboard should I get? ITX Rig, I don't want the dumpster trash that barely supports the CPU and bursts into flames after a year of operation, but I don't need a space alien gaymen board.
So I'm trying to install arch onto my laptop through architect because I'm too much of a retard to do it manually. I keep running into a problem where is says my /mnt partition is too full. How can I fix this?
What kind of cables would I need to connect my LP 120 turntable to my JBL SLR305 Speakers?
The turntable has a one red and one white (RCA) output and the speakers need 1/4 " inputs.
I'm really stupid and know nothing about inputs and outputs, so I'm sorry.
mobos are always a gamble, if you're too paranoid about h81s your best bet is a Gigabyte or ASUS h97, they also come with better features than most h81s.
wow, OK, so i could load youtube.com and run adblock and everything was fine, but once i embedded a video on 4chan, not only was the embed fucked, but subsequently all of youtube was fucked until i disabled adblock plus on youtube.
i could enable adblock and restart my browser and it was cool again, but touching an embed on 4chan poisoned the well again. but no way in hell am i running youtube with no adblock.
i had to whitelist 4chan on ABP, which is what Hiro wants us to do for ad revenue. so, /g/, coincidence or intentional?
I'm an idiot who has no idea how to build a pc and I also don't want to fuck up while building it.
Am I retarded for buying this pre-made?
As of today, Adblock Plus 2.7 is fucking up youtube for me. Is there a way to fix this/are there better adblockers?
The feeling when you assemble something for the first time and it works you just wanna roll around on the floor like a little anime girl screaming in excitement. Why? Because YOU BUILT IT, IT'S YOURS.
every time i restart my system, it just freezes during post. coldboot works fine. running windows 8.1 on a sm951 m.2, asus maximus viii ranger mobo.
i tried disabling fastboot. but the problem persists.
what could be the issue?
What's a sound card for? I mean, I know it's for sound but does it make it better like a GPU does for graphics? Is it worth it to invest in a sound card? Does it improves the PC's performance? (Like having a dedicated sound card will add some fps in a video game).
Also, if it's worth it, would a PCI x1 card be good?
>but does it make it better like a GPU does for graphics?
Sooort of. A better GPU lets you set the graphics settings higher because it has more computational power for graphics-related tasks that a CPU. A soundard does the same, but for sound. However, for a video game, sound generally isn't the bottleneck, since you're just playing audio files, not doing a whole lot of processing. They were useful back when just playing audio (i.e. decompressing it) was too computationally intensive for the CPU, so that if you had one, you could e.g. increase your graphics settings. But these days, you don't generally need one, since the CPU is more than good enough at handling audio. If your CPU is maxing out, then a better CPU would almost certainly be a better investment then a sound card.
So unless you need extra outputs for audio or something like that, don't bother.
This doesn't deserve its own thread, but I have no friends to appreciate it.
Found this in some audit documentation on every user must be created in a subsection of our company
>test user password
>open elevated command prompt and enter gpupdate /force
Am I off base here or is this really wrong?
I remember I did a search on Google back in 2003 when I was looking for gokarts. I searched "Gokarts for 12 year olds" and immediately was prompted with a white screen in big red letters
"GOKARTS FOR 12 YEAR OLDS?"
I couldn't move back to the google search page and my browser locked on that screen for a minute, then it went back to the search page on its own.
Possibly NSA activity?
I ordered Gskill Ares ram for my computer as an upgrade. 2x8GB sticks rated at 1866. When installed into my computer they were running at 1333 speed. They were plugged into dual channel and everything, i went into my UEFI and changed the speed to 1866 and it now runs at 1866.
I'm just wondering if this is considered an overclock and its not running at recommended speed? did i get 1333 ram somehow? the product page shows 1866 for sure. I also read somewhere that for some higher rated RAM you need to go into the bios\uefi and do what I did.
Again im just trying to make sure im doing everything correctly.
I have two old VGA monitors that I'm trying to use, but my mobo only has 1 VGA port. So I bought an active VGA to DVI-D converter. It kinda works, but whichever monitor i use the converter with the colors get fucked. The greys are effected the most. I can get an acceptable white balance/rgb, but greys look greenish brown.
The two monitors are identical.
Is this unavoidable? I thought the converter was defective so I exchanged it, but same problem.
>Should I just buy the parts and let the vendor assemble it or diy? Fear is the mind killer, i know but I dont want to waste my money when I fuck up
Two very simple peice of advice:
Get a beater, and take it apart, and put it back together. Learn your chops.
Read: "Upgrading and repairing PCs
by Muller 2x.
The start checking out falcons guide, and pricewatch, and make Ars and Toms a daily read.
it DID detect it at 666, i forgot to upload my image like a fucking idiot. After changing it in the uefi it displays 966.
Like i said before, just not sure if this is standard procedure or not
Which part? The second just forces windows to pull updates from active directory. Because windows is retarded and won't do it otherwise.
I swear to fucking god Active Directory, and everything windows does really, is so fucking retarded. I remember I hate one particularly tenacious bug and I tried everything, restarted the damn thing twice and finally called the instructor over.
>Did you try rebooting
>Did you do it a third time?
>Do it again.
Oh well that fucking fixed it what the fuck.
I get what it does, but I am confused why would apply group policy to a newly created user. Even if there is GP for that user that you created it would have already been applied. I know you run the command like a motherfucker, but don't see the connection here.
I did fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate and Mint 17.3 on an old laptop. I noticed that when using Windows, the wifi tends to disconnect rather frequently, I think more often when I'm downloading stuff. This doesn't happen on Mint though.
What could be the cause? Is that a driver problem?
it's pretty solid if you have a device that's not too old and well supported. my 2014 moto g runs 12.1 with (almost) no bugs. the only one I noticed is the speakers stop working when I unplug my earphones sometimes
It should have already been applied.
But it might not have been. Because windows.
It didn't make sense to me, either. But it's just something I was always told to do: run gpupdate every time you make anything new. Because fuck you, windows.
Thank fucking god I work on Redhat now.
I need a program that prints out every hex code in an image in whatever order (either in order in x-y coordinate appearance or in order of how often they appear, any really). What's the best language to go about attempting to do this?
The consensus on seems to be pointing towards PHP. Also, if this program already exists, what is it?
99% of what you learn in school academically is useless. What matters:
>internships and coops
>connections with people (start ups and the like etc also praise nepotism)
>projects where you make something cool (not as important as the rest)
Focus on the first two things -- learning some garbage from a couple of courses isn't going to magically launch your career.
is there a program out there where I can view a picture, rename it, and go to the next picture?
surely someone else has had that problem where they downloaded 1000+ pictures from 4chan and now want to start organizing things
Well, I guess it's more Adobe Bridge. I think Photoshop has an option to just auto-name your images (image1, image2, etc.) While Bridge and Lightroom are easier to sift through and organize. The latter two are more for photographers. I suggest LR the most for what you need.
Yo, probably phrasing this badly but whats a good program for monitoring network usage (what devices are connected, if one of them is downloading whats their speed etc) when there's multiple devices (bog standard router, no cfw)
How to fake gpu info in android without gltools?
Gltools doesn't seem to work on a live android-x86 on usb.
GNOME system monitor reports my CPU at a solid 100%. What the fuck. Why? What do I do? There's nothing in the processes that indicates to anything eating up all my cycles.
Potentially related; what's this error message I'm getting on boot? Is this a kernel issue?
I need a video player that works better than shitty ass VLC. It can't play videos at 1080p without shitting out on me. I watch a lot of anime what is the better choice /g/? I'm sorry if this isn't the rigt thread to ask. I'm new.
Awh shit. I had to change my UUID for my root and user partitions in fstab after initial boot. Have something to do with that, you think? Either way, I'm waiting for a kernel update. I didn't have this issue a week ago.
just changed my major to comp sci, know python, learning java now in a class.
I have classes mwf and work retail <15 hr/week. What should i teach myself on t/th/whenever? Should I try studying to get tech certs, or just practice java, or learn more deeply about linux, or what? I'm not sure what's the best or most useful use of my time if I want to learn more on my freetime.
Also, what type of entry level jobs are there in the tech field for a college student and what types of experience should i get for them?
I need guidance.
Will removing my 2000+ bookmarks make Firecucks load faster?
Someone please explain this stuff to me. I'm a tech noob but I'm doing my best trying to learn and understand.
How is AMD A10-7300 worse than i5-2410M?
The AMD is 3,2ghz quad core while the i5 is 2,9ghz dual?
On android, google chrome tries to update itself whenever I try to connect to the internet.
"Auto update" is already turned off in play store.
Is there any way to stop it or an explanation to why is it happening?
I'm having trouble resuming from hibernation on my laptop. Everything works great up until the last few moments and I get a black screen, i've configured the grub and mkinitpcio correctly as far as I know. I've been able to trace my problem back to this:Jan 14 23:17:54 arch kernel: [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* displayport link status failed
Jan 14 23:17:54 arch kernel: [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* clock recovery failed
Jan 14 23:17:54 arch kernel: [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* displayport link status failed
Jan 14 23:17:54 arch kernel: [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* clock recovery failed
I've googled around and it sounds like i'm shit out of luck. Any other anons run into this problem and solve it? I'm running the open source drivers and I prefer to keep it that way because the closed source are crap at rendering muh waifu
I had this problem before with my raspberry pi. I think I solved it by configuring the wireless card that I had plugged in. Not sure if it's what you've got going on though but i remember seeing the "hw_start" thing getting displayed over and over
Okay /g, I want your oppinion.
I bought an Alpenföhn Ben Nevis CPU cooler for my AMD FX 8320e. The cooler itself wouldn't fit on my MB no matter how much you looked, but I didn't want to use the boxed cooler.
So I google my problem and find a forum thread, where some poor chap has the same problem but the people there tell him "Hurr, you're an idiot, the cooler will fit, just use force." and he end up breaking his MB.
So I used some small rubber spacers to make the cooler fit, but I'm not 100% sure if I should keep it. It does it's job, currently keeping the CPU at 25°, but I don't know if it will hold up if I try to OC the CPU.
I still have 7 days left to return it, what would you do?
I wanna get a new android phone as windows phone just isn't acceptable anymore.
I pretty much only care about the price/performance ratio.
Battery life anda good build quality/screen are important too, but I couldn't give a shit about the camera quality or anything else really.
No, not more than 3 years.
My thinking is rather that CPU cooler are supposed to fit perfectly to do their job right. And with my tinkering may haven't mounted it properly and it will melt the CPU in OC or when it's under high load.
Anyway, thank you for the quick answer. I just checked the shop where I bought my stuff and the 212 evo is 3 bucks more then the Ben Nevis. Gonna keep that in mind.
I have 16GB of RAM and I notice the usage always hovers at 8GB which is a lot imo, is this normal or does Windows lets programs utilise more RAM or doesn't clean it because that much is available? Or do I really need to upgrade to 32GB?
/out/ leaning /k/ommando here. I'm starting to put together a bug out bag, and I'd like include some kind of e-reader loaded with useful manuals and such. Can any of you recommend a ruggedized e-reader or tablet, or something equivalent? I've got a portable solar panel and battery to charge it, so power is taken care of.
tl;dr: looking for a durable e-reader for innawoods.
Cleaning and placing new cooling paste on my laptop.
Guys, how to remove the old layer of paste, IF there is still some left after 5 years of extended use.
And how to apply new paste. And of course which brand.
I isoprophyl alcohol (70%) from the pharmacy and some paper towels. Also I wouldn't sweat about which brand of paste, I guess everything is better than the shit they pack with the CPU. Just make sure you get a small spatchel or old plastic card to even it out instead of just splatching it on.
In w7, when you have automatic updates disabled (it searches, but I have to download and install them manually) is there any point to hiding updates, besides not having to see it in the list?
I'm supposed to use the Java Socket API to write a TCP application, and a UDP application.
For TCP, I used Socket and ServerSocket.
But apparently, you're supposed to use DatagramSockets for UDP applications. Is that still part of the Socket API though?
what's the best way to sync arbitrary folders between a pc and an android phone?
and I mean real syncing, when I add or delete a file on some folder on my pc I want it to be added or deleted from the equivalent folder on my phone.
How the fuck do I install wi-fi drivers in Debian (live boot) on a Macbook with no ethernet port? I tried an external wi-fi antenna, which also needs drivers to connect but let me detect networks. I attempted to pair my phone via Bluetooth however it didn't detect the Macbook and vice versa. I really want avoid buying an ethernet adapter...
Is there a password tester that isn't some dodgy site where I input my password? Like a completely offline program that can tell me what my password's strength is in equivalent random bytes?
Can I connect these 4.1 earphones to that 4.0 bluetooth adapter?
Why is Youtube suddenly showing up in plain text HTML for me on Firefox?
I haven't consciously made and system or browser pref changes and it works fine in other browser profiles. The rest of the web seems to work just fine too.
I've already tried clearing cache/cookies, disabling add-ons and all that.
Do you think Nexus 4 will get OTA updates for any serious 5.1.x security issues in the future?
LMY48T was released after the EOL but I found no infos about future patches, eg. the bugs outlined in the 2016 January Nexus security bulletin.
Is my understanding right that if Nexus 4 doesn't get these patches, it means using Nexus 4 by normies browsing the web and casually playing unknown video files is too dangerous?
Any ideas for a reliable smartphone for the elderly that runs Skype with a front camera, has Hungarian language and is expected to get security updates?
> Moto E/G 3rd Gen is great but has no Hungarian lang
> Bought a Windows phone, security updates can be installed automatically which is grand, but can't make the miniature system font huge (can only be done in 4 apps), dun goofed
> Nexus 5? Really? A reliable granmaphone should start at EUR 200+?
Use one of the MinGW bundles or maybe Clang. Don't use Visual Studio for C and avoid Cygwin like the plague. There's also PellesC which is supposedly decent.
Compile stuff and it'll execute themselves. Nothing fancy there.
How do I fix this? Pic related.
It happened after writing a few C source files in gedit, compiling and running, and most notably installing and then removing a theme editing application.
Someone posted this image into another thread, and my question is: wouldn't this surely show up in an airport scanning machine, as you're required to put all metallic items through the scanner?
/var/lib/tor is not owned by this user (trimic, 1000) but by tor (43). Perhaps you are running Tor as the wrong user?

what did i do wrong?
My GPU, when playing games that I know it should be able to handle, gently rises in temperature until it hits around 90 degrees, then blasts the fans at 100% speed until it goes back down to around 80 and then keeps repeating this process. The card is a 380 which I recently bought. Should I just RMA it?
Yeah, that's way too fucking hot. What about the rest of your hardware? Is everything reaching those temps?
If for some reason you've changed your tools to measure in Fahrenheit, then don't worry, that's a fine temperature.
The exact same thing happened to my Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz 2x4gb that I bought years ago, and I've been running it "normalclocked" ever since and no issues have arisen.
How do I know if I'm vulnerable to the FFMPEG bug?
Is there a way I can install and use gentoo on my USB, with fully functional, i've tried live linux USB but it's no good for normal use
The one that supposedly give access to your files remotely, by executing a code in the exif.
i have the start bar on auto hide
after unplugging a thumb drive or headphones, the star bar refuses to hide
only way to reset this is to reset windows explorer in taskmanager
its annoying as shit, any permanent fixes to this?
I was you 12 months ago. It's cliche but now you must focus on creating as much exposure for yourself as possible. Don't skip ANY career fairs, tech talks, hackathons, or other cs/tech events your school puts on this semester. I got a great internship last summer through a woman I had never met before at my father's birthday party. I merely mentioned that I was a CS student "looking for an internship this summer" and she did the rest. Heck she even got paid for recruiting me through the company's referral program. Make people see your face and hear your voice, don't just be a profile or resume.
If you need a garbage buzzword tl;dr:
I am going to get a new PC soon, and I want to transfer all my files onto it via an external hard drive. I have it plugged into my MB USB port, and decided to make two back ups. One as a .7z file, the other letting windows do its back up onto the ED.
My stupid question is, can I transfer over the .7z file onto the ED while windows is doing its thing on the ED? I don't want any trouble with missing files or some shit like that
Is there a way to make mpv tries to play a link directly instead using ytdl for a certain domain?
What's the best:
-Daemon tools version
I have an MPEG4 video in a .webm container and a .opus track, but these cannot be combined into the .webm since it does not support opus.
What container should I use to combine the a/v tracks, and can I do so losslessly? Right now the only software I have is youtube-dl and ffmpeg.
int x, y;
cin >> x;
cin >> y;
if ((x % 2 != 0) && (y != 0))
x = x / y;
cout << "\nx / y is\n" << x << "\n";
So I declared x as an int, but I want to make it a double in my if statement. I don't want to use a new variable that is a double to accept x / y or (double)x / y or whatever, I want x to be assigned the answer without the numbers after the decimal being truncated.
Wait for the HP Zbook 15 G3 or a TP P50?
I'm studying engineering, haven't started any CAD courses but I need a laptop that's gonna last over 5 years. P50 seems really good at $1300 but G3 seems good with Firepro
Also, pirate MS Office or get a license?
Can you tell me which argument I use in the config file?
That's how new malware MO.
It start as seemingly safe service then through repeated "UPDATES" it get escalated permissions and the next thing you know your nudes are on /b/.
Are there any good tools out there for recovering unresponsive SD cards? Here's the deal: I have a Kingston 8GB Class 10 SD card which I flashed and installed a bootable Linux distro for Raspberry Pi (I think that was the Kodi thing). Long story short it never quite worked right, so it just sat there for a while. Now I'm trying to give the card some new use, when I plug it on my laptop's SD port, I can hear the "doo-dee" sound that Windows (7 Ultimate) makes when it detects new hardware, but nothing else happens. Checked on diskpart, nothing. (Kali) Linux doesn't detect it at all. Tried to use it on a digital camera, says "locked card". Is there a chance of saving it or should I just trash it?
What kind of wireless network card should you use?
USB or PCIe?
My computer will be around 36' away from the router.
Was looking at something like this:
Are you sure linux isn't detecting it? It might just not be able to mount it.
Does it show up in /var/logs/messages, fdisk -l, lsusb, or blkid?
If any of those detect it, you should be able to manually mount it. Then you just reformat it and it should be good.
I had similar issue.
Asked around on /g/ told me the card is dead and move along.
As a last resort I put it in my phone "NOKIA", and was able to format it, and it worked like charm.
Plan on using an old mobo+cpu as a NAS. The motherboard has 2 sata connectors and I have a 2-port sata card. I can get another just like it, or I could get a completely different one with 4 sata ports. Can I "mix" PCI SATA controllers?
I bought a charger cable (micro USB, 3 meters) for my phone and the battery percentage is still going down
