How does the kernel do it

If I were the kernel and I could ask the hardware for some info using some ioctl calls, I'd conjure up a bunch of struct <device-type>_descriptor, fill them and pass it over to userspace

Do Windows/Linux do that? What sort of protocol does the hardware use to allow introspection of that sort

Shitty hours (12/week at best), horrible expectations as what they expect you to do, (ie some people get forced to work 9hr cash shifts or they get 'let go'. Which is legal because they're always on 90 day probation)

And god the customers are the worst. People think they're entitled to whatever they want, whenever they want. I've never been so disappointed in my community. Customers rip off Walmart more than Walmart rips off local businesses

What specifically? As deli slicer I get pretty irritable with fuckers wanting their meat "shaved" or asking me to set the slicer to "medium" when it the dial uses numbers rather than adjectives and each slicer is a special snowflake so there's no point in educating the consumer as to what number he would like best since that only helps if you're on THAT SPECIFIC slicer.

I have a siragon sp-7000 cellphone, i have quite knowledge about electrónic stuff and can repair my computer by myself but i know nothing about cellphone, sometimes it heats up to 48° when i play some games or even using whatsapp, it gets really hot to the point that i can feel the heat through the screen, it worries me because as i know it can shorten the battery life and im starting to have problems with it, i want to know if it should worry me or not or if there is something that i can do. Plus sometimes when i charge my cellphone it charges really fast (10 minutes so wtf, there must be a problem with the battery already) and when it reach 40-20% of charge it shuts down. Does anyone know what to do?

Sorry for my english, im still learning.

Related to prices. Walmart has so many skus that maintaining the whole store is near impossible. One person picks up a Tassimo machine, puts it down in the spot for coffee filters that is labeled $5. Another customer comes two minutes later, takes to to the cash, and demands it for $5. When they don't get it they through a huge fucking spaz like a 5 year old.

Also another thing we don't have an interactive inventory system where you can lookup items. It's all remote with Walmart HQ (even delivery trucks). Customers come in and demand we lookup stock for a specific item, and when I say I cannot then they swear at you like (you think I'm stupid you fucking kid? Get me your manager. I'm putting in a report against you)

I can rant all day.

Building my desktop computer. I've never given this any thought until now but is there any difference, even if minor, between bought OS's and downloaded ones? Is there any OS/Software package for the Raspberry Pi that would allow me to watch Netflix/Amazon/HBOGo/Hulu on it? >>
>>52411692
>Why would you want a database of all your passwords?

Because then you can easily use huge, unique, random symbol passwords for every single website. Enables absurdly strong passwords. Makes you immune to truly dangerous phishing attacks by offloading the credentials entry task to the browser. Localizes the damage in case the website itself is breached and limits the amount of work you have to do to secure everything.

>when you allow a single point of failure to your database.

Buy a security token such as a Yubikey or some smart card. Generate PGP keys in it and use them to encrypt the database.

Depends on the monitor, should say so in the packaging or item description, just google your monitor product id or something

Displayport: 144hz with audio
DVI-D: 144hz with no audio
HDMI: 60hz with audio
The rest: shit + no audio

I switched to Time Warner from Verizon Fios recently. Now whenever I torrent or even just seed files using qBitTorrent all other devices in my house are completely unable to use the internet, even when hard-wired into the router/modem.

I was thinking they have some way to automatically throttle your service whenever they see larger than normal amount of packet-sharing going on but qBitTorrent itself works fine; It's just that everything ELSE gets fucked.

What am I missing here?

Not all software have configuration panels.

Amazingly as it may seem, I've been forced to use some stupid ass software whose programmers actually decided an options panel was too complicated for lusers. Thus started the hunt for settings, which eventually led me to the fucking registry and its opaque magic numbers and its cringe-worthy M$LWSTRPZTCHAR bullshit. You want to persist some data on your program and you choose anything other than JSON -- you're doing it wrong.

I can think of an even better way to do configuration. Why reinvent a bunch of trees in some stupid opaque binary database with a bunch of access system calls just for show ("the registry") when you can literally just use the file system for this exact purpose? If your program is named x and you want to set option y.z, write it to a file located at ~/.config/x/y/z. Reading it back is just reading the file.

My cursor is extremely irregular in its sensitivity and I literally can't surf the web or use my desktop without overshooting or missing most of my clicks. When I pull it straight down for example; it sort of shuffles from side to side in a zigzag motion. It's almost unnoticeable but when you get close and do it slow it looks really suspicious. I also feel a difference in distance traveled from side-side and up-down.

It's only like this with my newly purchased mouse and not with any of my other, older ones.

Someone told me it actually might be my cloth Steelseries QcK mousepad that causes issues for the laser sensor of my new mouse but I have other laser sensors which work perfectly fine with it. Yet I feel like he might be correct when I test it on a large book. And it's not my drivers.

Should I just give up on this mouse and get something else instead? It's a Func MS3-R2 and I got it a year ago but never used it. Can't return it unfortunately.

I'm trying to make a video out of a single image using ffmpeg but for some reason it's not working.

(taken from here as an experiment: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25891342/ffmpeg-creating-video-from-single-image-for-specific-duration)

Phones may be locked so that arbitrary SIM cards won't work. If you buy from the manufacturer, it's unlikely to be in such a sorry state.

>bootloader

Put it into download mode and flash whatever you want into it using whatever tools are recommended on XDA-developers. For example, I can use ODIN to flash shit to my Note 3.

For this phone I didn't even have to do that in order to root and install aftermarket recovery. I just downloaded a use-once exploit APK. I don't even remember the name of the shit

Yes, same issue with other computers as well and I've tried updating/reinstalling drivers for likely two hours wondering if it might be older drivers or my tablet drivers interfering.

I think this happened because of me tinkering with it in AMD Overdrive, because it looks to be happening because of Turbo Core. Problem is, uninstalling Overdrive or disabling turbo core only fixes the problem until the computer goes to sleep again. Any ideas on what could be happening? I never fucked with my clock speed or voltage besides using overdrive.

After removing the fans from the heatsink, stick the noctua fan cables into cpu_fan and opt_fan first before you mount the actual heatsink, saves time. Because you will use both fans that come in the package. Also install your RAM before mounting the heatsink. Also saves time.

And who cares how it looks ? I don't care how it looks so long as it does its job and is quiet enough. My fucking macbook at idle is noisier than my desktop under load in this R4. The sound damper materials actually work in this case, I love it.

>at least 3-4 times, an hour or so each
>tried at least 8 different drugs
>never wants to do anything
>no enthusiasm for anything
>find it harder and harder to constantly look after her
>sometimes can't even get dressed without crying

I'm starting to feel like I need drugs too.

My new question is. Is getting windows 10 worth it?

OK, I need a bit help clarifying scopes and globals variables in python.
I want to make a function that deletes all my user-defined global variables, and I want to put that function in a separate file/script so that whenever I want to run it I can just import that file and call the function.

I wrote the function and it works fine if I define it in the same file I'm calling it in, but if I define it in a separate file and then call it in another, it doesn't work. I mean, I get no errors, but my variables don't get deleted.
The problem is that when I call that function from another file, it doesn't threat my global variables like global (using globals() ).
Any workaround for something like this in python? Something like friend classes in C++ or something?

Cortana doesn't have enough functionality to be any good.

Windows 10 is for gaming because of DX12 potential. It's shit for everything else.

An IRC network is something like Rizon or EFnet. A server is an individual server that hosts people's connections. The servers are all linked together so it doesn't matter what server you connect to when you're chatting.
Sometimes there will be a netsplit and you'll see half the channel suddenly disconnect, this is one of the servers disconnecting from the rest of the network.

Since MS has gone full retard with w7 updates, and spam out botnet and w10 bloat shit, I've started to only install the security updates. I've been doing this for about a year.

99.999% you don't

Don't trust any Windows updates these days, Microshit is desperate as fuck to force Windows 10 into every Win 7 computer in the world so at this point I wouldn't be surprised if even security updates stealthily puts Win 10 garbage in your pc
>>

ah ok, yeah any ways, so go with mint or ubuntu, if you want minimal and something simple to use but functional at the same time it looks decent, do that.

>>52416588
nah, not all of us are going to tell you to be that faggotry on it. Linux is cool but not productive enough to ACTUALLY do shit with. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/

when windows 10 tries that shit again, open task manager, look for DWX or DXW I don't remember what it looks like its 1 of those, open file location, then close it on your TM, after that, right click, take ownership of whole file, right click DELETE. DONE. That's how you get rid of W10 bull shit. With this Take ownership file bit, you can literally delete anything on your PC.

1. yes, they literally can't just keep it the way it is.
What pisses me off is that windows 7 is just fine. There's nothing wrong with it, then windows 8 comes out and fucks up older games from XP days and says"you wanna play this you're going to have to Vbox it or find a better version" which is what I did cause the Sims complete collection didn't do shit.

Anyone else noticing some spooky shit with the KB2952664 update? A few months ago I noticed it was in my list of installed updates, even though I never installed it. It was also listed in the list of updates they wanted me to install, even though it apparently already was installed. I removed it, restarted, and a few minutes after it was back again. I tried again, and now the computer was stuck on the "configuring updates" for like an hour, then I just gave up. The update is still listed as installed, and in the list of new updates, it's also still listed, now saying it was released 2 days ago.

You might say, it's installing automatically, but I don't have automatic updates on, I have it set to search only, then I install them.

It's literally a meam. Don't take it seriously. Any one who says Gentoo is good is literally a fedora faggot durito MT Dew fag who only likes coding and making it look as "their OS" as possible when really it's more work than it really is.

if /g/ would tell you what to really install it's going to be arch

list:
1. Trolls"install gentoo!"
2. The linux users "Arch is what linux you wanna do"
3. The linux users who realize it's not that great "Linux is nice but stick to windows, there's more there for you"

looking to install linux on a laptop currently running windows 8. can someone recommend an easy way to install it?
is ubuntu best for beginners?
>>
>>52417213
yes.
1 Get a 4 gb or higher USB
2 goto ubuntu.com
3get the free ISO, no you don't have to pay for it, get the latest.
4 google unetbootin
5 run unetbootin
6 restart pc
7 install it
8 do what the installer says
9 enjoy ubuntu

however anon, I would recommend not doing it, only so you can do it in a virtual machine so you can see if you want to do it before you fuck your shit up. Do you honestly wanna do that? No. Don't waste your time on something you're not 100% with yet. You will get mad that your computer is dual booting, then you will be mad that you don't like it and it's there wasting your space and the 2nd partition you can't do anything about
