I would try dvdfab first or slysoft to decrypt then run it through another program to shrink if you have to then nero or something else to burn.

sorry I can't help you anon, but, seriously, what a pile of shit /g/ is now, when /g/ was first created people actually helped each other out. I wish /g/ had a mod/janitor who would start permabanning each and every shitposter on here as damn, le Reddit shits over /g/ and 4 chan in general these days.

Optical media is redundant and safe. I wouldn't recommend using anything else for long-term storage, especially if you combine it with parity data.

1] You can compress 1080p movies to ~10gb rips that look exactly the same as the blu ray with 10-bit h264
2] SSDs exist, they're not a myth anymore. They're getting cheaper too.
3] You're an faggot

Nobody should subject themselves to the shortcomings of raid when real solutions have been available for years.

Not all of us store coalgirl rips you know. You can store 40 very high quality 10gb 1080p movie rips in 400GB and leave ~50gb for the OS and a few programs. That's a lot of movies.

SSDs will only get cheaper like I said. So maybe in 2017 you will be able to buy a 2TB SSD for 100 bucks.
>>
>>52406958
>10gb 1080p movie rips
You don't even have to go that far. hevc can squeeze those movies further to ~6gb a piece.

Cool and now tell me how likely your 400 discs are to survive longer than an HDD
>>
>>52409728
It's extremely common for discs that are better than "PongTingDongDing Brand HighFidellit 4.7G Bruedisc 1ยข DVD-R" to outlast a hard drive. Especially at higher densities.
>>
>>52410043
I remember rebuying GTA san andreas 3 times because the disc kept scratching so hard that it failed.

Also i just realized... Having 400 discs.. must be fun swapping them out all the time when you want to access data... and that is the very thing that will make them break

oh well
>>
>>52408747
Buy some real fucking headphones and tell me they don't sound different.

Even if they didn't the sound of freedom outweighs the sound of proprietary.
>>
>>52410270
Pressed discs literally last more than decades. The fact that you treated it like a placemat doesn't impact on the quality of the format.
Even then, a scratched disc can easily have the scratches removed (via a simple resurfacing) and work as new. This can be done many times, even with deep scratches.

If you treated a hard disc as you did an optical disc, it would last less than a month.

>swapping 400 discs
I have ten blu-ray discs containing every photo I've ever taken in RAW format.
I don't go back and look at them every half an hour. That's not the point of long term storage.

When I'm burning them, I'll burn an extra (with discs from another company) and I've already covered backup. They get stored at my parents house for safe keeping.
>>
>>52411685
You're either batshit insane or extremely poor and stupid.

Someone up there showed a 480GB SSD for $120. I once even saw a 1TB SSD go on sale for $200. SSDs are extremely reliable and only fail after ~800+ TB of writes. So unless you wrote a TB of data to them every single fucking day then SSDs will outlive you.

Blu-rays are a dead technology, you have to accept it.
>>
>>52410284
They don't you freetard.
>>
>>52405532

Sorry to say OP, but Toast Titanium.

And don't listen to these faggots saying optical media is dead. 1250 GB for $27. I store everything on them and the best part is I don't have to worry about hack/virus/win10 etc fucking up my shit. Also, the illegal shit is extremely easy to hide if you put it in a slim case. Burn, grab the biggest Caselogic you can afford, and tell /g/ to fuck off.

You didn't even read the cited post, I pity you.
>>
>>52408747
Audio compressed to 1/5 the size of the original lossless track will sound indistinguishable.

Video compressed to 1/5 of the original size will look very noticibly different. Video compression technology is just not that good yet sadly.
>>
>>52414250
That's data retention and not failure.
Yes, SSDs need to be powered up regularly.
>>
>>52408747
You can actually notice a difference but the amount of money the equipment required to do so costs makes FLAC only useful in case you want to re-encode in the future.
>>
>>52405945
>6x 25 GB BD-R Pack = 150 GB = $25
>120 GB SSD = $50

For archiving purposes, optical is still the best solution. If you know someone who owns a tape writer, you can save much more because tapes are even cheaper than BD and have 10x capacity. Thought the tape writer itself costs a ton.
>>
>>52415657
>comparing separate plastic discs to a single ssd, which is way faster as well
>suggesting optical media for archiving
>>
>>52415693
SSD are much more subject to failures, especially the low-cost ones so yes optical is still the best for archiving.
>>
>>52415657
>>52415711
Don't forget SSDs can also lose data when they don't receive energy for an extended period of time.
>>
>>52415711
The average optical disc will start to go bad after a few years, that's a fact. And that's even if you never touch it once it's burned.
SSDs aren't anywhere near as bad.
>>
>>52415657
Just use HDDs you dense fuck

Right, in facts the Wc2 CD-R my cousing gave me when I was 12 and that I used only once in last 14 years doesn't work anymore... or so you wish. It still works flawlessly, even though it's slow as hell.

Depends on the media you use, personally I prefer only single layer discs because it's more reliable than double layer or double sided discs.

>>52415754
Low cost HDDs are even less reliable than SSD but they're still more affordable for archiving that's true.
>>
>>52416135
>the Wc2 CD-R
1. luck
2. only 150MB written. discs go bad on the outer edge first.
also just because the game works doesn't mean the data is 100% intact.

Well, IsoBuster says all files are readable and I'm playing it in DOSBox right now (only the map editor works without DOSBox in Win7), for a 21 years old game on a 14 years old disc it's doing pretty good imho.
