What does /g/ think about Google Cardboard?
I'm thinking of getting me pic related for 25$

I'm pretty sure you've been lied to. There's nothing cardboard about that unless Google has made great breakthroughs in cardboard tech.
>>
Ooops, I Meant the Concept of using a Smarthpone as a Screen for VR and not Google Cardboard in special.
>>
Cardboard is just a development tool, the latency is just too high for anything else. Maybe movies.

Too laggy for good head tracking and the sensors in many phones drift too much to do that with any accuracy anyway. Google's immature libraries aren't helping; they could probably do sensor fusion much, much better on many devices.

There's a few VR games and toys on Google Play but with the lack of controllers it's not much of a gaming platform. If your phone's screen is like 500+ DPI it can be a surprisingly good way to watch video content, though.

Decent for porn

Yeah, tought about that too

for <40$ it is a great experience. i just got mine today and I tested some Apps. It works good enough and it's actually quite fascinating that it works so well. I'm downloading VR porn right now and am hyped. I'll report back.

I didn't know a good viewer to buy and went and got a bundle of the Star Wars ones to test it then it'll have good resale value incase I don't like it. I tried them today for the first time. Made my head spin at first, then I actually liked it. I agree with >>52398583 I can truly see VR porn becoming a thing, felt like a personal theater. Only downloading the Cardboard app and Star Wars app it seems to me actual use of it will be hard to come by but I haven't gotten to look at everything yet.

Where do you find it?
>>
>>52398734
vr porn? i just checked some paid sites such as virtualrealporn.com or something and found torrents for the videos. you need a proper player for those videos though. for iOS i'm using mobile vr station.
>>
>>52398770
oh yeah.

i just tested some videos: shit was cash
it's actually really good but my mistake was that i accidentally downloaded female pov i.e. i was mostly seeing a ripped dude with tattoos all over his body fucking me. i guess most of /g/ would actually like it...

What's the best cardboard right now? I want one.

Does anyone know any alternative software to sync my Google Cardboard with pc? Or do I have to wait for cheap version of Oculus Rift to come out?
>>
>>52398400
>the latency is just too high for anything else
Are you saying the software by google's shit, or that in application on most phones it's shit?
>>

Just use either Moonlight GameStream (NVidia) or Splashtop (AMD) on your phone.

Use TriDef for Side-by-Side 3D in games.

VR snobs are way too finicky. Latency's fine with (>>52400371) and a good connection. Headtracking is still kind of shit but eh.
>>
>>52400386
>Headtracking is still kind of shit but eh.
Head tracking is the #1 reason why latency needs to stay very low (<16 ms if possible). People are used to other kinds of latency from multiplayer games, gaming on shitty TVs with 60+ ms processing lag, etc., but having your view respond to head movements with lag like that is likely to give motion sickness to just about everyone if the VR illusion is otherwise working. At least for me it's way fucking worse than not reacting to head movement at all, or having completely wrong FoV for the setup, or something.

I suppose this isn't as much of a problem if you're just watching porn or playing some game that was never meant to be a VR product in the first place, but Google's got a _lot_ of work ahead of them if they want Android + Cardboard to be a convincing VR solution.
>>
>>52400982
I don't even bother with headtracking at the moment.

I just use it as a massive deep ghostless stereoscopic screen which is fine for me and is amazing in its own right.
>>
>>52398133
I've said it once, I'll say it twice.

Best cheap VR HMD for your smartphone paired with a streaming app of your choosing, I use TrinusVR for this.
>>
it's shit, don't waste your money.

VR is a ways away still.
