Should I get a MacBook Pro Retina 15 or a Dell XPS 15?
dell
MacBook
rMBP is the only right answer.
HP Elitebook
If this was about 13-inchers, I'd go for the Dell. In this case, go for the rMBP.
>>52396973
what are you gonna use it for?
>>52396973
>15"
enjoy your throttling
rMBP nigga.
Let's look at it this way.
>get XPS
>beast of a machine
>slap Windows on it
>shitty performance, shit for programming
>slap Linux on it
>good for programming, even worse performance than Windows
>get massive tearing when watching videos, on a fucking $1500+ machine
The Dell is a great laptop but there's no OS that can take advantage of it and you'll feel like you're on a subpar machine.
Just get the rMBP.

>This
Get what suits your needs. I'd still recommend the Dell IMHO
>Windows 10 hi-DPI scaling
Enjoy your blurry fonts and/or huge icons

If you want to use windows or linux get dell. If you want macos get apple.
Dell is a better laptop as others have said but it doesnt really matter since we all know you will use them for shitposting anyway.
Well, shit

>>slap Linux on it
>>good for programming, even worse performance than Windows
>>get massive tearing when watching videos, on a fucking $1500+ machine
Is this really true?

He's just a retard.
>>52397154
Yes, I fucking swear to God even the latest Nvidia drivers don't fuck the issue.
My last laptop was a Lenovo Yoga 3 14 with an Intel HD5000 chipset AND a dedicated Nvidia GT960M. Granted that's not anywhere near a powerhouse computer, but fuck that should be way more than enough to play 1080p video without goddamn tearing.
>>52397173
don't fix the issue*
>>52397154
Only if you use a non-beginner distro and don't know how to use it. The others will usually work fine, out of the box, like Windows and OSX.
>>52397186
Didn't know Ubuntu was a non-beginner distro.
>I don't know what a compositor is the thread
Changing the drivers is not what fixes screen tearing.
>>52397250
>you have to tinker endlessly with compositors, drivers, DEs, etc etc for hours a day just to get a somewhat functional install on Linux

No he is memes, truth to it is as follows:
Nvidia linux drivers are shit and it will take some work to get optimus working properly and you still wont get the performance you would get using the card on windows
Even with those shitty drivers it will have better performance than mbp though because specs are better.
>>52397087
>slap Windows on it
>shitty performance, shit for programming
why, pls explain? what do you code that you can't code in windows, pls do tell
>>52399014
I'm doing computer science at university and my teachers being freetards require us to use Unix system calls in C, and Unix sockets and shit.
>>52399138
>Unix systems calls in C
>Unix sockets
All i hear is C programming and socket connections, which works exactly the same in all env. Just kill yourself kiddo
>>52399138
>muh winsock
off yourself, you don't belong in CS
>>52397191
>sudo apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
Wowwwwwwww
I'd get the macbook. It'd be silly to replace the OS on the dell with Linux at its price point, and at this point, I'd rather an expensive Mac than laptop with windows 10.
>>52396973
The Mac obviously, faster and more aesthetically pleasing. Plus Mac > Wangblows for programming.

>surf the web or surf hawaii
>>52399449

>quad core vs dual core
