Buying open headphones for gaming because of multiple speaker noise complaints. Narrowed it down to AD500x ($80) with replacement thick velour pads ($22) or SHP9500 for $100. I could also move from AD500x to AD900x but I heard its not worth it.

What should I get? I also need some sort of EQ to boost the bass because of nobass. Do I need a portable amp, too?

So what are the differences between the 558 and 598?

I understand this is easily Google-able information but it keeps the thread going.
>>

558 is cheaper
558 requires a little work to sound like (or very slightly better, depending on preference) than 598

They appear to be £10 cheaper where I live.

Just called in to say thanks /hpg/. I picked up some 770 Pros on Saturday and spent all day at work listening to them.

100% worth it. Their response is great at all ranges and although they're flat, they don't skimp on the bass.

er, i dont know who told you the 770 was flat, but thats wrong. still theyre a great headphone, enjoy
>>
>>52370754
>although they're flat, they don't skimp on the bass.
they're really fucking bassy, there's few headphones that have more bass
the only readily available one is bass by dr bass

I kinda want them but I don't want to deal with equalizing the bass down
>>
>>52370785

I thought that flat meant that they didn't auto-amplify any part of the sound spectrum.
>>
>>52370836
you have some interesting words to describe things, but yes, that is what flat means. however, the problem is that the dt770 are not a flat headphone. they are vshaped, so they "auto-amplify" bass and treble
>>
>>52370813

The bass is great but they work for anything. I can jump between rock and hiphop without the rock sounding like it's in the next room.
>>
>>52370414
over-priced where I live or I would've tried a pair already

The bass isn't overwhelming. I can feel a kick but it doesn't drown any other sound out.

now hold on just a cotton pickin minute. we are talking about the dt770, correct?

>>52370929
well, the dt770 are very successful. they are vshaped, but i would agree that they dont do it too much, like you say. its probably why theyre so loved

well usually baits are funny, a meme, or subtle in some way. if that was bait, he might as well of come up to some people talking about a gas car, and said "what the hell, thats not a gas car" haha yeah great work friend, what a bait that was
>>
What are some comfy in ears?
>>
Guys, I tried to take this test: http://test.tidalhifi.com/ and failed miserably. I listened with both sennheiser pc-320 and shure se-425 headphones with asus z87 pro integrated sound card. I know that the equipment is quite shitty, but I've read elsewhere that this test can be passed on almost anything given you've got decent ears. So does this mean that I've got shitty hearing? Also I've never could distinguish between lossless and 320 kbps mp3. Fuck, I even struggle to differ 192 and 320. I start to think that it is pointless for me to spend money on good hardware because I won't be able to appreciate the difference anyway. Or is this indeed because I got crappy equipment?
>>
>>52371008
>first time you see someone acting like a retard as bait
really anon
>>
>>52370929
>The bass isn't overwhelming. I can feel a kick but it doesn't drown any other sound out.
That's because they increased the sub-bass but not the mid-bass, hence why sennheisers and X2s sound bloated and the beyers sound clean.
Everybody else is increasing the midbass to get more bass, that just muddies everything up and makes it sound like shit.
>>
>>52371067
well of course not. i guess im just too optimistic
>>
>>52371053
just be happy that you are not a audiophile and dont have to buy all that overpriced shit.

Glad you liked them from the start. When I just got them few weeks ago I feared they might be too sibilant. I got used to them literally the next day though, and now think that my e50s are harsher on some worse tracks.

Muddy and sloppy refer to the bass, it isn't tight or controlled at all and have midbass bleed. Recessed refers to the midrange and upper frequencies, they sound distant and unnatural.

Same anon from before here. I went to the X2 because before them I bought the K612 (my first pair of decent cans) and hated them. They were recommended to me for being neutral but they sounded too tiny to me. There was no punch in the music. No fun.
When I first got the X2 I felt a bit like you. The bass seemed to steam a bit of the detail from the rest of the music but that's probably because I came from neutral headphones. After a week I would never go back. I love how they sound now. So much more fun than the K612.

its actually quite unlikely, but of course not impossible. its much more likely that you just prefer it.
niggers, spics, and shit want to be white too, but can they? lol no, you dont always get what you want. it literally doesnt mean anything that you like bass m8, whats important is that you figure out what you like and buy the best thing for it. id say the x2 are quite good at that, especially if you dont know what youre doing with an EQ

im not a bass head, but i do like a warm tilt.

I think my quest to find a good DAP for IEMs ended quick. I got a Z5 Compact for free because I shilled well for Sony. The battery life is superb and it does so much more than play local files. I can use it for streaming, for Spotify and Spotify connect devices, supports Bluetooth AptX, I can get V4A installed on it, has memory card slot, USB with quick charging, IP68 certified and I can lock the device if I want. Also I can just get a data SIM card for it if I'm in a place where I want to stream/torrent music on the go without Wi-Fi coverage. Form factor is a bit bulky compared to many DAPs but still manageable. The ER4-S play uncomfortably loud from it and there is no audible hiss or distortion present. I'm just wondering how should I configure the device for music playback. Any ideas for software to use? Anything from a launcher to music players. I'll be rooting the device but won't be installing custom ROMs.

>AAC 320 KBPS - the highest quality compressed sound format in TIDAL
I fell for the meme. What were they trying to prove again?
>>
So I pulled the trigger on the K7xx, now to search for amp options.
Would a Fiio E10k power them well?

Rigged? Were those aac's intentionally damaged and my hearing is way worse than I thought? Otherwise it wouldn't make much sense to make a blind test nobody can pass without lucking out when trying to sell "high fidelity snake oil".

>Guys, I tried to take this test...
Tidal test is a shitty scam and misleading to say the least.
>So does this mean that I've got shitty hearing?
No. It means absolutely nothing. Even if the test was proper, it would still mean nothing regarding your hearing.
> Also I've never could distinguish between lossless and 320 kbps mp3.
There is no audible difference between those two on any codec used for full band stereo audio.
>Fuck, I even struggle to differ 192 and 320.
So does everyone. 192kbps can be indistinguishable from lossless. There's a very big possibility that there is no audible difference between 192kbps and 320kbps or 192kbps vs 320kbps. This all depends on the codec, encoder and encoding settings used too. Bitrate alone is a meaningless spec.
>I start to think that it is pointless for me to spend money on good hardware...
This is the same shit parroted around in the audiophile communities. Equipment's limitations in playback are present in the audio signal in an entirely different manner than compression artifacts. You can spot compression on really shitty equipment if you know what you are listening for. And that's all what codec listening is: knowing where and how the artifacts are present. Good equipment makes everything sound better. Audio compression is not a limiting factor in audio playback nowadays. This dumb idea needs to die away already.
>Or is this indeed because I got crappy equipment?
Like I said, no. And it's not because of your hearing(in a way you think it might be at least). The source files you are listening to are already likely transparent from lossless. Regardless of equipment or person listening, there isn't a difference. You can train yourself to get used to the artifacting present in codecs but I fail to see the why. And past a certain point all lossy files get transparent.

People rant about Beats being all about the marketing, but really, their efforts pale in comparison to the pseudo-tech babble Pioneer are spouting to justify this ridiculous effort.

"topping out at 85kHz" really? Are these headphones designed for bats? Humans can't hear above 20, nevermind 40. 85 is just offensive, and cringeworthy that the PR release was repeated unchecked.

"The edges of the diaphragm are also textured which helps to funnel sound" so, sort of like every other headphone driver ever made?

"Every part of the SE Master1’s were carefully designed to reduce distortion and any unwanted noise" - How? Which parts? The headband? The grille? Or does that just sound like a good thing to say?

Pioneer - fire your PR company!

They recommend balanced cables for superior sound quality and pasted that Hi-Res Audio logo on the page... I guess someone will fall for it.

>Weight 460 grams without cable, balanced cable is 140 grams more
Please no.

Is the sensitivity in dB/V or what? Because 94dB/V is extremely low.

I won't judge yet though. I'll wait for them to be measured. Price is stupid regardless of fidelity and even if they measure better than anything on the planet(which I really doubt) weight and sensitivity seem idiotic.

see >>52382917
I was puzzled when I first checked the specs. The mere fact that they wrote the sensitivity that way is more than enough to doubt about the quality of these headphones.
>>
>>52383196
Definitely that when used as speaker wire. Not placebo in long interconnects and/or as interconnects in an environment with a lot of EMI present. Also a must in microphones but that's another thing entirely.
