Seriously, why use Debian when Ubuntu is obviously the better choice?
>install debian base
>JUST the debian base
>kernel, coreutils, dhcp, apt
How did they manage to fuck even that up
USE CASES OF DISTROS:
Too much time on their hands: Gentoo
Boring office stuff like spread sheets: Red Hat, CentOS
Gaming and noobs general: Ubuntu
Entry-level coding: Debian
Reale serious coding, top-end server stuff, hacking and pwning life in general: Arch
Maybe Ubuntu server and because Debian has retarded package maintenance. Whenever I need a package for some reason it's ALWAYS out of date, even on Testing. It's a home server so I don't need
I just need something that will let me do whatever it is I want to do.
so debian has a
> retarded package maintenance
and you still suggests a distro thats a fucking copy of the debian testing repos ?
>I just need something that will let me do whatever it is I want to do
so: every linux distribution ? every distribution can do the fucking same as every other distribution
>try debian stable
>desktop hangs and crashes twice a week
>have to update kernel to 4.2 just to enable 144hz
>software is outdated
Should i switch to testing?
I'm on a desktop and honestly i only care about 100% free software
I'd rather not push my bad luck.
Ubuntu's repos are based on Debian's. They aren't a copy of Debian Testing.
And no, there are plenty of differences in distros. Technically you can rework one into another, but it's not practical.
Is this shit real, I mean, the chinese?
I worked with some kiosk appliances lately and wtf it took debian >40min to install on a flash drive. Geez it wasn't even an internet bottleneck. Geez I used the DVD images...
>muh tiling wm
>ridiculously large resolution wallpaper
>"not using lynx"
>"not watching multimedia shit with mplayer on framebuffer"
Default /g/ haxor coding skillz
The whole argument for using loonix is that 'it works good on old computers!' and 'its not bloated like Windows!', pick an argument faglord
I just installed Debian on a home server I'll be running Plex on. How the fuck do I install Plex? This is my first time using not-Windows so please forgive me, but I'm trying to follow their installation guide, and I keep getting "no such file or directory" when I enter the line they told me to enter.
I use Debian on everything too:
-4 work pcs
All running Debian testing + mate (except home server) because I can't be bothered getting used to another distro.
>Ubuntu is too fucking bloated.$ debootstrap --variant=minbase wily ubuntu-wily-bootstrapped/
$ du -csh --apparent-size ubuntu-wily-bootstrapped/
Debian unstable minimal installation:debootstrap --variant=minbase unstable foo/
Ubuntu wily minimal installation:debootstrap --variant=minbase wily foo/
Arch minimal installation:./arch-bootstrap.sh -a x86_64 foo/
