do you use your hoverboard in public or just at home?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

wtf, how big is your house exactly?

can you show another angle? that thing seems to be on the ground even though you claimed it was hovering.

>>52360986
People were desperate for hoverboards ala Back to the Future, so they pretended to make them to confuse the old people and sell more and be like "it's 201X, of course we have hoverboards!"

That being said it is still a stupid name, and it's the 2010s version of Segway.

Because of the batteries catching on fire I'm guessing? An issue that can be solved and was over hyped by the media in the first place.

Not banned as is you cant buy one, but banned for use in public spaces. Pretty sure other places have done the same.

>An issue that can be solved and was over hyped by the media in the first place.
it was an expected result given the industry wasn't willing (or able) to manage itself.

if you wanted to avoid the FAA legislating drones and every transportation agency regulating "hoverboards", it would help not to enable retarded jackasses to fly drones into actively used airspace and to allow chink niggers sell their shitty exploding chink products.

I use my electric unicycle quite a bit. They're harder to learn but superior for actual commutes. At first it seems pointless but then you realize how much time it saves on small 2-3km trips. You can technically run faster but it's not feasible to run in every situation and the unicycle can maintain it's speed climbing a hill.
>>
>>52361206
You can't legally use them outside of private property.

>>
>>52361176
Oh I see. That has always been a gray area because the government would consider it a motorized vehicle or at least something with wheels (bikes, skateboards) and technically not allowed on sidewalks. I think that's bullshit if you ask me.

>>52361190
The government wants control regardless. Flying anything into regulated airspace was already illegal. Bikes and skateboards are usually illegal on sidewalks or the street in some places.
>>
>>52361201

>>
>>52361229
i googled "hoverboard banned why" and the first few results had direct answers to your question.

did you have any additional questions that the top result didn't explain sufficiently?
>>
>>52361229
It's the fucktarded old law about motorised vehicles not being allowed to go over walking speed without being taxed/registered and having compliant signals and lights etc.
>>
>>52361248
They have the same type of batteries cell phones use, but I don't see phones being banned for risk of fire
>>
>>52361212
That looks kind of cool really. You get any odd stares in public? How much does it weigh?
>>
>>52361237
>Bikes and skateboards are usually illegal on sidewalks
bikes shouldn't be legal on sidewalks. i ride a bike every day and while i appreciate that roads are not necessarily safe enough for all bikers everywhere, allowing bikes on sidewalks would be crazy irresponsible.

roads are not necessarily always safe. if you're driving and don't feel comfortable, you don't get to pull off into the shoulder and drive slower until you feel comfortable. if the roads aren't sufficiently safe for biking, you can't just executively determine that now the sidewalk, where pedestrians are absent-mindedly milling around, is an appropriate fallback.

It's like hammers kill more than guns but they aren't under the spotlight all the time. Laws are always about "muh feelings" or taxing than actual safety.
>>
>>52361263
That wasn't the rationale given in the first result that I read (pertaining to UK laws), but the response to your issue is that cell phones didn't explode with nearly as much frequency as hoverboards have so soon after coming to market.

if you want to insist that we get a light touch from regulators, it helps if the "first impression" they get isn't a series of news stories of the battery packs bursting into flames.
>>
>>52361229
They keep catching fire.
>>
>>52361299
Cell phones have caught fire, their batteries aren't nearly as big so they usually just destroy themselves if they do.
>>
>>52361291
>hammers kill more than guns
I don't want to give you the impression that your post's equivocating logic is anything other than stupid, but I have to ask; is there a source on this?
>>

>>
>>52361324
Yes, cell phones have caught fire, but like I said before, first impressions matter. By the time we started seeing lots of talk about cell phones bursting into flames, they had already secured a place in our lives.

Congresspeople could take hoverboards or leave them without losing sleep that night. See if anyone feels that way about smartphones or tablets or laptops.
>>
>>52361212
>but then you realize how much time it saves on small 2-3km trips. You can technically run faster but it's not feasible to run in every situation

You know what also saves you time on 2-3km trips? A bicycle.

And that was the day my mind was blown by one of those electric unicycles. This was close to two years ago as well, so there was literally nothing on the domestic market like them that I'd seen or heard of.
>>
>>52361271
About 10-12 kg, I just put it in a backpack when I go into shops.

I had one guy stop his car in the middle of the road and stare at it. So far I have had 3 people wanting to try and ride it, no one has managed to stay on first go yet.

The existing designs are still very new and crude and mostly reuse ebike parts. With proper development and custom parts I think the weight should fall to about 6kg for a model with 20km/h cruise speed and 15-20km range.

>if you want to insist that we get a light touch from regulators, it helps if the "first impression" they get isn't a series of news stories of the battery packs bursting into flames.
They explode because the small manufacturers use batteries without understanding the specifications.
Self balancing vehicles and draw a huge amount of power, some of these lithium cells are only rated for 5amps so they get exposed to 10-15amp loads and overheat.

It's actually largely a problem due to western laws, because they more or less banned electric mobility vehicles everywhere when the segway was announced no large company will distribute them in the west. So then you you have demand but no supply, so small chinese appliance factories started buying the parts and selling the units online via trading companies. They might only make 500-1000 hoverboards when they have downtime between jobs. They have no experience with lithium batteries or vehicles.

In China they have many well established brands and everyone knows not to buy the cheap generic ones or if you do to check the battery model before buying. So there's not many issues with fires there.
>>
>>52361556
Blacks like novelty items like this because it's affordable and makes them the talk of the 'hood for a while. Like having the biggest gold chains or wheels on your car.

>>52361543
It's easy to see that murders have been on a steady decline regardless and has been since the 80's in the US.
>>
>>52361556
I had some dumb white bitch pull out onto the road in front of me last week, she was fucking with her phone and didn't even look. It was all made better by seeing her face plant and carve her face up when she heard the horn and my wheels locking up. I hope she heard me gut laughing as I drove off.

Also, I need a dashcam.
>>
>>52361533
>Good grief that's inefficient.
They don't use anything like 1000w. They might for a split second if they hit a bump, but generally its about 100-200watts.

My cheap generic unicycle travels around 7 kilometers on 0.13 kilowatt hours of energy.
>>
>>52361212
Is it like the one from Lorax?
>>
>>52361533
At that weight I wouldn't take it to the shopping mall unless they had lockers where I could stash it. But definitely something you could take to work, school, places where you'll be at in one place for a while, or quick errands. Or even if you drive to work at a place with a ridiculously large parking lot ... my brother used to rollerblade the last stretch from his car to the office.

Hoverboards on the other hand will hurl you into the pavement if one foot is lifted while moving or it slips due to a bump.
