Craiglist thread

Looking through the for sale Computer section I found this beauty.

Cop or not
>>
>it has the pin connector

It's fucking shit. Not worth $10, you could get brand new ones for $10
>>
Buy it. Do a build completely from cheap parts on Craigslist. Post it here as you go.
>>

it was a joke, anon
>>
>>52360465
looks like a shitbox keyboard probably paired with a late '90s/early '00s dimension

having a PS/2 port doesn't mean it's a mechanical placebo, but if you just like the look or something and would use it then go for it

Does anyone have any experience buying a graphics card from Craiglist?

I've bought other stuff, but never pc components.

Is there stuff I should look out for?
It's listed as used - like new, and when I asked why he's selling he just said he doesn't really need it anymore.

It looks like a good deal and I'd rather drop the $160 for the instead of $200 for it new because I'm somewhat of a poorfag, but any suggestions on what to look for would be great

If you buy the Craigslist card (that you know nothing about) and it breaks, you have no recourse.
If you buy a brand new card and it breaks, you have a warranty.

fuck who ever says this, used is used

I bought a 390 from crabslist with no regrets. Just have the guy show it working and running a bench if you're worried. Ask questions and feel them out.
>>
>>52360990
use that to your advantage. Tell the seller the same thing and low ball them at a price you're comfortable with. If it's cheap enough it could be well worth the risk

That's true. Well I just re-checked, and the one on craiglist is a gtx 960 4gb, but I was looking at the gtx 960 2gb, and a 4gb is ~$230 new, so it would be closer to a $70 difference.

Fuck my poorfag life.

How are Corsair keyboards?

This is going for $60. Right now I just have some old rubber dome keyboard that does me fine, but I was wondering if this is a good deal?
>>
>>52360972
I love when people don't know what they have and just copy the Newegg description.

>>52361041
If you're scrimping money then a fancy keyboard is the last thing you should worry about. I still use a fucking stock Dell keyboard.
>>
>>52361041
New for over 100, and looks great so yes a good deal. Unless you want budget, in which case don't go mechanical.

I always think of money spent in terms of hours worked to earn it. It helps put things in perspective. Still, sometimes I end up buying shit that I regret anyway.
The other guy is right about checking out the card though. It could be worth a shot if the guy is willing to show you that it works right.

Anyway there sure are some sick deals in my neck of the woods.

Quality of cooler and stock clock/overclock.

Generally, higher price means better something, usually more/bigger fans or better factory overclock, but maybe also features.

But I can't imagine a better 960 getting you that much more performance for that price range.

>>
I actually bought an R9 270x off CL for $100 flat.

>>
>>52361441
>tech ingorant

>>
By the way /g/, here is a heads up warning.
I bought a T500 years ago, and I got scammed a big time.
Maybe my story will help you NOT to get scammed.

> Found ad on a trusted (!) used hardware selling site
> Guy even had positive reputation, which meant a lot there
> T500 for a reasonable price

So I contacted him.
First red flag:
> My friend will bring the laptop because he is going to Germany, and he can drop it off while he is on his way
...
The guy arrived, he looked normal, etc.
I have downloaded some burn in tests, 3D mark, etc.

Ran all the tests. Connected to wifi. Ran prime95.
Everything worked. I had WIFI, I had 3D, both cards worked.

So we pay the guy, he leaves.
It was late, so next day I wanted to 'play' with my new laptop.

cont...
>>
>>52363100
cont'd:

> switch to the discrete card, no output
> plug a display to it with VGA, screen is all garbled, like GPU is fried, switch to Integrated
> wifi won't connect
> take apart laptop, the wifi cables are fried (this shit - I never figured out how they managed that)

The serial came back clean from Lenovo, that was my biggest luck.
Took it to the repair center.
+ They paid for a new motherboard, for the new wifi module
- I had to pay for the new wifi 'cables' and repair hours

Overall the laptop was ~720 USD.
The repairs cost me ~110 USD.
In the end I had a used T500 for ~830 USD.

I still considered myself lucky, the laptop was like ~2000$ in my country at the time.
But yes, they did intend to scam me big time, and they almost succeeded.
Still don't know if the laptop was stolen or something, but it still works.

So, yeah, be careful fellas.
