Considering giving up my r9 290 CF for a 970
Sick of AMD's crap and would get money plus extra if I sell them.
Bad or good move?
If you're looking to run a 1080p set up yes.
If you like slightly faster 4K slideshows stick with your r9 290
>inb4 but 1 shitty unoptimized garbage nobody actually plays uses more than 3.5 GB!
390 is about equal price to 970 but will have more dx12 and vram. 970 is for people like me with small psu's and only one monitor.
Pic related but the code is ScaryMommy2016
The 290 and 390 are the same card, dumbasses.
Fucking retarded move, senpai. The 970 is a gimped piece of shit that doesn't even keep up with a single 290. So if you're sick of Crossfire (and let's face it, only a retard would own either Crossfire or SLI in 2016), sell one 290 and keep the other one.
I can't even imagine how stupid somebody would need to be to buy a 970 A) ever and B) four months before Pascal.
>people literally recommending he "upgrade" to a 390 when he already owns two
Why is /g/ so stupid?
no it isn't you deluded AMD shill
AMD drivers are absolute trash. a 970 is a significant downgrade from crossfire 290s though, assuming you're playing a game that's actually multigpu compatible. better off waiting, OP.
pic related, AMD refuses to fix their horrible CPU overhead in order to make their DX12 performance look better than it really is
>thinking people who need to save $20 on a pooinloo gpu that will cost them more through excessive power draw are going to be savvy or financially secure enough to be pairing it with a $500 intel cpu
>he fell for the AMD meme
So, your house burned down and you lost all your possessions? You asked for it, running not one, but TWO housefire cards.
Stick with team green. Green is good.
ill never understand why people buy 2 crappy cards to make them kind of like 1 good one, when there are so many issues they introduce.
get 1 good card, either a fury or a 980ti and be done with the bullshit issues multigpu add.
>I'm team green, but AMD running hot is a meme now friend. Say hello to 2005 for me.
you sure about that? i've owned both a 390 and a 970 and can safely say the 970 produced way less heat and never required an audible fan setting unless i was utilizing it 100% with hashcat or similar tools. on the contrary, the 390 needed a fan profile that took it to 100% fan speed under gaming load and overclocking resulted in temps that needed >50% fan speed even at idle
My 390X Nitro never surpassed 69°C while gaymen. Only furmark can push it over that.
>OP has 2 290s
>ppl recommending 390s
Wtf, they are basically the same. In full HD there is literally no need for 8GB vram.
1. sell one 290 and
2. buy a raijintek morpheus with two noise blocker eloops.
3. OC that bitch
4. Get close to stock 980.
no reason to buy the 380x, if you want value you could easily find a used 290 or 770 in the 150-200 range. you could also probably find new reference 290s and refurb 970s for 250
this card runs cooler than my 980 stop posting bullshit. any overclocked maxwell card will draw about just under 30 to 50 watts less than AMD cards.
