I'm looking for a headphone with a larger soundstage and less bass than the M50's, though not necessarily recessed bass. From what I've researched it seems I may want to go for the Beyerdynamic DT880 250 ohm or 600 ohm and an o2 amp. Opinions?
>>
>>52354481
heard good things about the shp9500, recently tried on the 598's and will say they are very comfortable but i didn't get a chance do any real sound tests. Honestly they being $150 ish on amazon might make them a good deal. No info on the 558s i can give you.

You need low output impedance for the sennheiser hd558/598. If you don't have low output impedance, you better buy an amp.

Phones have low output impedance. If your computer sounds really bassy compared to your phone, it's because your pc has high output impedance.

I'm looking for a pair that meets these preferences:

Open back
V shaped, possibly warm. I like punchy bass but also clarity.
Removable ear pads.
Comfy.

I liked the FIdelio X1s but the pads were not removable and they were just a sweat/grease sponge during the summer.

$200 or less.
Thanks

Recommend the Sennheiser 598's.

You might be able to try them in a store somewhere. but it checks all your boxes.

Not sure about price over in Germany though, thats where Sennheiser is located but likely not where they are manufactured.\

For reference they are

200-250 USD
300 350 AUD

Wow, didn't realize how shit the CAD became. I would say yes, will blow anything prior out of the water and is versatile in terms of using it without an amp. Just note they are a bit bassy and somewhat uncomfortable, might need to get replacement earpads somewhere down the line depending on your feel

If you haven't bought an amp already, you could use the gift card to pick up a Magni 2 from Amazon or something.

However, they're huge compared to much else and will break given the first chance.

That's the one I always get recommended. Of my two audio authorities, one of them loves the XPT100 and says they sound exactly the same as the HM5, the other doesn't like them but says the HM5 are slightly better. Don't know how to take that.
>>
>>52360464
I'm inclined to believe the guy saying they are the same, since they are pretty much rebranded HM5s. The extra set of angled pads make them a better value, so no one recommends the HM5 anymore.

Apparently they have a warm/bass tilt, so you may find that more noticeable than usual coming from Grados.

It's related to the impedance and impedance to frequency curve of the headphones you plug in. It causes a predictable effect in the frequency response. If the output impedance is massively large compared to the load impedance, it will cause distortion. Pic related is an effect of the output impedance in a pair of multi driver cIEMs.

Technically the K702 Anni and the K702 are the same headphones:
http://cloud.akg.com/8428/k702_service.pdf
As such, the K7XX shouldn't have more bass than the K702, since the K7XX are basically chinese K702 Anni.
Coming to K702 bass, many lies were told about it. The sub-bass region is recessed, no doubt about that, but from 50hz to about 200hz the bass is great: it's not too light, it's not too heavy and it's punchy enough to make even modern music genres enjoyable.

Yo senpai, you heard their newest album?
>>

Great if you find them for under $200 (Which you can often if you're from the US)

a Fiio E10K cost about 85$, it's hassle-free and can drive a lot of headphones. Get it and a K702 or even a K612 and you basically get a wonderful combo at the same price of a single X2.
>>
>>52354520
Dt-990 250 are comfy as fuck. i can wear them all day all night with glasses. Wide soundstage and open. After the burn in they become even better.
>>
>>52367218
Damm it, hahaha, sorry about that. I had one job...
>>
>>52367460
yeah man... burn in...
>>

at that price you could get a K702, a K612 or even a Beyer DT880, which are better than that brown-milk placebo
>>
>>52367490
Well stick to your steelseries siberia son, they suit you.

Is that a way of coping with the beyer's remorse?

>Past headphones
- Goldring DR150 - Good sound, some of the worst build quality I've even seen in a product. Open backed, lacking bass.
- Astro A40s (I know, I know) - Built okay, uncomfortable, too heavy on the bass, horrible shrill trebles, gaymer shit looks
- Macaw GT100s IEMs (w/ Comply tips) - Love them, the cables are awful and non-replaceable.
- Sennheiser CX300 - Too bass heavy, awesome build (Lasted many washes in the washing machine)

Thanks guys

It comes and goes in waves. Beyer edition, Senn edition, Philips edition. I'm still waiting for the Stax edition. I guess they're too overpriced and difficult to order.

your take on memes is as ridiculous as your meme headphones

>>52368290
yes
>>
>>52368228
>>52368314
I've finally figured out that a "memephone" or "meme headphone" actually refers to a headphone that someone else dislikes. Similar to the "stop liking what I don't like" argument.
>>
>>52368353
i mean, the x2 are almost good. they just dont have what it takes to compete with the alternatives usually talked about here. brand wars are mostly banter, but the people that know what theyre talking about compare models with a mixture of subjective opinion -and- measurements

it is your duty as an /hpg/ member to spend enough time reading to figure out your preferred sound signature, and then buying the headphone that measures the best with it
>>
Closed headphones that's not Sony mdr 7506 or meme50x for about 120 ameribucks

Consider either the T50RP Mk3 (semi-open) or T40RP Mk3 (closed). They are extremely affordable planar magnetic headphones at ~$150. They also have a very active modding community.

looking for a comfier version of the memephones, or can you replace the pads on them to make them comfier? their sound is good enough for me but after 5 hours they're just killing my ears

>>
>>52368763
Massdrop has a drop for M50x velour pads at $20.

Replacement pads might lower the bass response because the drivers sit further away, but that's not the worst thing for a bass emphasized headphone like the M50x.
>>
>>52368797
HD598 are THE memephones for a while
they were tied with... AD900? The ones with purple... like a year ago

someone's been trying to force m50x as a meme though
>>
>>52368797
Oh, I used to have those. Yeah they are pretty uncomfortable but I think it was mostly due to the clamping force and not the pads. Not sure if there is anything that can be done about it.

I hear people talking about checking local stores, not sure if I should be doing that in US.

I noticed that this site called Andorama has had it on sale for ~70$ around the 24th day of the month for the past 2 months. Not sure if it's a good store or not.

Less treble extension, simpler acoustics, better isolation, likely more midbass.
A generalization of course.
