hey /g/. Got an ultra vanilla user here. Was just given my first ever PC, and issues with resetting windows have resulted in me installing Ubuntu.
I have a DWA-130 d-link USB N300 WIFI adapter that seems to pick up the connection around the computer once it's plugged in, however trying to join a network results in a disconnected message.
I've done some googling and I found some sudo commands that were supposed to work but I'm pretty sure I fucked with the firmware folder too much so I've reboot Ubuntu again and im trying to start fresh. Not wanting a recall of last time, im consulting what I deem to be the most industrious corner of the internet
Tl;Dr need help getting dwa-130 USB WIFI adapter to work on Ubuntu
Any and all help is appreciated, not sure what to contribute in the meantime

What commands? What have you tried?

Hook up via Ethernet for now, I think there is a driver updater in the settings somewhere. Linux Mint is more friendly by the way.

Tried this to no avail.
And there were some others which I can't seem.to find in my history. But regardless I have reinstalled Ubuntu so I am.at factory settings because I figured starting from.scratch would be easiest

Not partial to Ubuntu so maybe I'll give it a look. Also thought about cracking windows, but I thought I would give this my all first. Would mint have support for my d link?

how about burn a few copies of newb friendly distro live cd's, see which one works with your wifi adapter out-of-the-box, and install that distro.
Get used to linux, find out how said distro got dwa-130 working. http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Devices/USB/?dbw.devices.submit=filter&dbw.devices.filter0=[all]&dbw.devices.filter1=D-Link&dbw.devices.filter3=[all]&dbw.devices.filter4=[all] says it works.

Isn't that the incorrect firmware for my adapter? In the reading I've done the dwa-130 needs the r8192u driver where those commands are.for the r2800 aren't they
