>>52349263 If you're happy with M$ not telling you any information on what a "cumulative update kb44848948498494" does to your machine then go ahead and install it. Also have fun with going through a million hidden menus to disable it from installing a new graphics driver that fucks over your system.
Upgraded? Sure thing here's your free OS good goy. Oh you want to upgrade some hardware now? HAHAHA no you can't use that windows 10 key now, because we use hardware authentication.
Want to send all your keystrokes to M$ to get personalized ads in your start menu? Windows 10 is the choice for you.
I am asking you to redpill me on windows 10. "To redpill" basically means "to enlighten". This is from a famous scene from the Matrix films by the Wachowski brothers, in which Morpheus asks Neo to pick between two pills, one of which will cause him to forget everything he's been told so far and go back to living his ordinary, boring life, or the red pill which will show him "how deep the rabbit hole goes". /pol/ is primarily responsible for the widespread of the "redpill me on x" statement, but I don't hail from /pol/, and since I am a pleb who barely knows anything about computers, I wondered if it would be worth it to upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 now that I am building a new computer, which is my current operating system.
>>52349263 Besides spyware, ads and forced updates (my biggest gripes) the OS in general is unfinished and beta quality. I'd wait another year to use it. Even then I probably won't because it seems fucked by design.

>monitors which applications are installed >which versions >crash logs of applications >scans files for kiddy porn (but of course they need to look at every file to do this) >monitors your location constantly >Cortana is never off and is always listening even when turned off >displays ads on your PC and installs software you didn't ask for >forces updates onto your PC without your consent >has telemetry which basically tracks how you use the PC (what applications you have open, for how long etc) >even they admit that it cannot be turned off.
If you want me to list source, fuck. that. shit. I couldn't arsed
>>52349263 Collects websites you visit Collects your emails Collects your text input Collects your voice input Collects your bitlocker key Sends your WiFi password to Facebook friends Show ads in start menu Links everything to an advertisement ID Forced telemetry Forced updates with no description Ships adware Charges for DVD playback software
Basically everything that could go wrong went wrong
>>52349610 Sadly, those three things are all very true. It also wiped my hard drive on the TH2 update, which was the final straw for me. I now run windows in a VM for all of my windows needs, but run Linux full time now. :(
>>52349263 >redpill me Microsoft is run by Reptilian Muslim communist Jews from India that poop in the street. Windows 10 is an OS programmed by Indians to spy on America and learn from us so they can become a superpower faster. Even the CEO is a lizard dressed up as a brown person. India is the home of the reptilians. When was the last time you saw a lizard poop in a toilet? Exactly. Obama is a lizard but he belongs to a kinder species, he is more closely related to the iguana while the indians are related to komodo dragons.
>>52349827 >Collects your bitlocker key You have a option to change the location when you encrypt a drive >Sends your WiFi password to Facebook friends you CAN do that, but for each hotspot you have to do it by hand, will not do it on its own.
>Charges for DVD playback software Because there are these things called royalitys, lrn how copyrights work
On the bright side maybe it will all be the downfall of the MS OS? There is an alternative that's been around for just as long, is free, doesn't spy on you because the source is open and is garnering support. Ship MS has sailed offshore for the most part anyway, good riddance!?
>>52351392 >You have a option to change the location when you encrypt a drive proprietary UXs are no indication of what the software is actually doing. >Collects your emails well it records your keystrokes, so even worse than that.
>>52351626 Not him, but it does get in the way if you want to use your PC fast and know exactly how much you need to move your mouse to travel an x number of options under a context menu. That is if your not autistic and have mouse acceleration enabled, in which case you're barely using the PC with the speed indians take the poo to loo, which is never.
>>52349263 Are you a terrorist or other kind of unsavory type? Don't use windows 10. Some features collect data so it can better adapt to your needs, but in theory could be abused to spy on you.
Is every version of windows shit except XP and 7? Windows 10 is not XP or 7... it is different. It is smooth and well refined, pretty easy on resources, but it changed a bit (imagine windows 8 with all the things that made windows 7 great).
When you acquire, install and use the Program software and services, Microsoft collects information about your use of the software and services as well as about the devices and networks on which they operate. Examples of data we may collect include your name, email address, preferences and interests; location, browsing, search and file history; phone call and SMS data; device configuration and sensor data; voice, text and writing input; and application usage.
>>52351080 idiot, you and so many others, why are you all so stupid, are you all americans or something? why does no one do any research why do you all rather believe some shitty webjournalism/bloggers yellow pages outfarts only ment to gain some ad-clicks or "karma" why is it so hard to think and do stuff yourself, fucking kill yourself you fucking faggets winhaters botnet/spyware/adware memers neet autists linuxshitters jobless "muh freedom to rice the shit out of my shitty linux and browse 4chins because i have nothing else to do and i learned some cool terminal commands and look like elliot from mr robot but cant even configure windows because im a retard actually" i cant even anymore
>>52358408 That doesn't mean it won't happen to you in the future. If you even slightly care about privacy, you should avoid Windows 10 like the plague. If you don't care, then just do whatever is the easiest for you.
Windows 7 meets windows 8. It's better than 8 but I preferred 7.
Protip: You'll need it for DX12 and everything past that since it's now the only Windows ever coming out again. It's just video games, period that you should care about.
Extra Protip: If you've been using Windows since 95/98 you've been being spied on by every nation including the US at some point considering its horrendous security. Now you just have to worry about them being fully outed for it.
That's about it. If you're any phone attached to an account like Google/Apple/Microsft in [CURRENT YEAR] and bitching about Windows 10 sharing info then you're the biggest hypocrite out there.
>>52357020 >>52356850 DX right now is windows 10 only. but the idea that you will be forced to use it to play pc games is a stretch to say the least. think back to previous versions of DX and how they played out. the same thing will likely happen. there may be a few games that get bribed by MS to have windows 10 exclusivity through DX 12, but that vast majority of games will just have it as an option, if they have it at all. and even in those cases enabling it isn't going to transform the game, it might just make it a bit shinier or change the performance. just think of how many modern games still get by on DX 9.
personally if I have to switch I'm going to hold out as long as I can and then switch to enterprise for games only, de-botnetted to the best of my ability. meanwhile I'm going to stick with windows 7 and experiment with other OSs on my other machines to find a new good home.
windows 10 being a botnet/spyware isn't a meme, it's fucking true.
>>52359354 >>Just like apple and Google Google and Microsoft have large advertising divisions and freely admit scouring their users' information. As does Facebook and others. Apple has no advertising division or alliances and Tim Cook has sworn to the US government, in Apple's financials, that Apple doesn't collect, use or sell their users' data. He can be jailed if this is found to be not true.
>>52360021 This raises an interesting question. If I activate W7/8 with a fake key, and upgrade to W10, does it generate a new, legitimate one? I'm going to buy from a keyseller and those keys have a habit of getting deactivated after three months.
>>52361323 whats wrong with edge? it has a really nice aesthetic, and when I sign into my windows 10 account on my laptop when I'm out and about I can access my files from home anywhere via the cloud. its great (tm) :^)
