I was thinking about getting the Sony M4 Aqua 16 GB but I've just found out that the Xiaomi Redmi 3 is going to be released next week, it seems to have similar specs with a fucking 4100 mAh battery for only 150$.
What would you guys recommend?
Pretty torn between getting a 6P now, or waiting for the snapdragon 820 phones. In particular the next HTC (M10?). 6P is already awesome but i'm afraid the m10, s7 and z6 will blow it out of the water speed and battery wise. Dunno what to do :(
Hello! I'm looking to get a sony xperia Z2, but the only link I can find with a decent price is on Amazon
This link seems sketchy as it's a bunch of home-made pictures, which leads me to believe the phone is used. Also, I'd like to use my phone in the shower. Would the Z2 be a good option? Some people report problems with water getting in the camera.
M4 has a lot of shitty bloat, expect to have problems with internal storage. Xiaomi doesnt support a lot of 4G bands mostly used in US/Europe.
New models will always beat previous ones spec wise. Wait for new flagships, and get 6P when it's price will drop, it's not worth to wait for "latest and greatest".
>Xiaomi doesnt support a lot of 4G bands mostly used in US/Europe.
Oh fuck, that's bad.
>M4 has a lot of shitty bloat, expect to have problems with internal storage
I'll probably install a custom ROM as soon as it's beginning to be annoying on that side anyway, I did the same for my SP. What kind of problems though?
Thanks for the input lad
snapdragon 810 is shit and the 6P bends more easily than the iPhone 6, plus the screen is apparently ultra scratch prone compared to most phones
basically it's just cheap chinese shit
Opinions on the Lumia 640, /g/?
For $200AUD it seems like a good, cheap phone.
I'm looking for a new phone, since I'm still using my shitty samsung gio from god knows how many years ago and the thing just won't die. It needs to be able to do the following, in order of descending importance: Send texts, receive calls, play videos, show my weeb comics, play music somewhat decently through headphones (the phone speaker won't ever be used for this.). It needs to do this during my 2-2.5 hour commute and then sporadically throughout the day. I'm estimating 3 hours of actual use and about 12 hours between charges.
My budget is around 200 euro. I know next to nothing about smartphones specifically. I could get a iphone 4s for 110 euro right now, but I'm not sure I want an apple/a phone that's that old. I'm open to chinese phones as well so long as they aren't shit.
I didn't realize the Snapdragon 615 is a mid-range shitter, the Intel SoC is likely better.
Intel doesn't usually match up well to the top-end Qualcomm SoCs though in terms of GPU performance.
Hey, /g/, I have just 2 quick questions:
From a not-so-poor-anymore-fags perspective, does an expensive phone (let us say 400€) really offer a higher return of investment compared to a cheaper phone (200€)?
And what would you recommend a European for both price ranges?
I own both the Z3 and Z3C, I like the Z3C a lot more due to its size. Ever since both devices got updated to Lollipop neither has come close to really needing 2GB of RAM so memory isn't an issue.
I wouldn't expect Sony to make a Z6 compact based on their release history. There's a decent chance they may not even make a Z6 given the Z5 was a monumental failure and they've talked about abandoning the smart phone market for awhile.
>does an expensive phone (let us say 400€) really offer a higher return of investment compared to a cheaper phone
Depends, do you use your phone a lot? If yes, I'd say spend the extra money on a flagship device. Build quality is generally better and the performance and displays are almost always drastically better.
>Nexus 6p looks cool
>Vanilla android 6.0
>Can't tell if the bend/scratch memes matter
>Snapdragon 820 just released
>ios sucks dicks
Z5 has a slightly better camera and a better fingerprint scanner but unfortunately the volume rocker is in a bad place and Snapdragon 810 sucks. It's responsible for the battery life on the Z5 being noticeably worse than the Z3.
the Z3 was great when it launched because it had fantastic battery life and pretty high-end specs when it released.
Unfortunately the Z5 doesn't have near the battery life of the Z3, it's thicker, and the SoC throttles because the Snapdragon 810 sucks.
The big improvements are the camera, which is currently the best on a smartphone according to DxOmark and the fingerprint scanner, which is integrated into the power button on the side. Only real problem with this is that it prompted Sony to put the power button and volume rocker way too low on the phone making it awkward to use.
that one costs a good 230-250 euro where I live though, so it's a bit over my budget. Isn't there a lower priced phone that isn't terrible? I'm basically going to use it as a video player/glorified mp3 player to pass time on my commute, so I'm not expecting super high end performance or anything. .
if you can save a bit more, it really is worth it.
otherwise, maybe a samsung s4 (not sure on price), or the bq aquaris m4.5. or look at microsoft lumias - but windows phone still lacks a bit.
Any reccomendations of which xiaomi and huawei phones are good? Also, how hard is it to root something and why would it I do that exactly? I've put cfw on a wii and my 3ds and psp before, is it similar?
I'll keep it in consideration, I just don't really want to spend a lot of money on something I'll only use a few times a week. Once I'm home I usually just put my phone in the charger and don't touch it until I leave the house again. What's the problem with windows phones?
it would help to know your country, so i can look around to see if there is anything better.
the ui is 'different' - tile-based, and most third-party apps are poor (i have a lumia 435 as backup). try and go to a store to try it out if you can.
so i bought a 6p and i fucking hate it. it bent once but i bent it back mostly
how could i recoup most of my losses on this? do you think the apple store would take it if i traded it in for an iphone? or would i do better to try and sell it myself?
in that case, go for the 2nd gen moto g. 4.5" screen and micro sd slot.
i do not speak french, but i gather it says sold by amazon (and not a third party).
Does anyone consider there to be an objective "best" smart phone at the moment? I've been out of the smart phone market for over 5 years and have a load of cash to spend, so what would people recommend, the Z5 or S6 or something?
I want to flash Cyanogen on my Galaxy S5. What are the disadvantages of tripping KNOX?
I already have no warranty.
I'm trying to flash the regular Cyanogen Mod on my OPO as opposed to the Cyanogen S bullshit that it comes with by default (especially now that they're pushing that Microsoft/Cortana update). I'm following Heisenberg's directions from the XDA post.
I'm up to the part where I'm supposed to run the command in the prompt that's supposed to show connected devices and it's supposed to show my phone. But when I run it nothing comes up.
Yes, I've turned on developer options in the phone. And yes, I installed the universal driver. Any suggestions?
My current phone is a sub 150 euro samsung that I bought like 4 or 5 years ago. Its battery is going so I'm looking to replace it. As you can probably guess, I never really did much with it since it's too shitty to run any kind of app or browse the net with any kind of decent speed. Still, It did what I wanted from a phone so I'm looking to get something new in the same price range. Currently I can get an iphone 4s for about 150 euro, get a lumia 550 for 130 or a redmi note 2 for 120-125. Are any of these options decent or should I look at other phones. I'll use it to send texts and watch videos on the train, not much more. The iphone/android could have some neat apps I suppose, but then again I haven't used any apps these past four years and I don't feel like I missed out terribly. Suggestions?
Im in the same situation, feels like lumia would get the best support moving forward. I care about battery so iphone 4s has me worried there. Redmi has the best specs but I don't know much about the brand.
Yeah, I was thinking the 4s could be nice, maybe jailbreak it and get lots of neat apps to play with. Since I do like a good puzzle game now and then. But the no microsd slot has me worried most, along with the battery. I need my phone to last at least 2 hours intensive use + around 8 more hours of screen off+texting.
4s has a horrible battery life. especially if you update it to later OS's
Personally, I'm waiting for the Redmi 3, as mentioned above in the thread. Amazing battery life, and pretty good hardware for the price
I'm pretty sure I'm running as admin. It's the one account on the computer so I imagine it's admin by default. If I shift+right click to open command prompt does it open as admin by default or do I have to right click the icon and run it as admin then?
Don't get an iPhone 4s. I used one a few months ago for a month to see what all the hype about iOS is. The phone was super slow, even for texting. I was running iOS 9.
Looks like the iPhone is already out then. Thanks for the warning. Now it's back to deciding between cheapo lumia or cheapo chink android. is this Redmi 3 you mentioned the same as the redmi note 3? Any idea on how much it will cost?
Samsung Galaxy S3 finally broke.
What should my new phone be?
>tfw was bullied in school back when I was using a Galaxy Captivate which had a 4 inch screen when ifags had iPhones with 3.5 inch screen. Calling my device fuckhuge
>recently updated my Captivate to 5.1.1 while their iPhones are in the trash with old as fuck ios on em
>fuck u normies now you have the fuckhuge phone
Are there good smartphone with an ACTUAL physical mid "home" button ? I have a GS3 and I was thinking of getting a new one since it's stating to get old and I'm feeling it, but everything I see is full digital, and I really don't like having to switch on the screen with the side button (or the worse top button)
Sorry for my autism
read the thread anon
you probably wont be able to acces the 4G network with that phone.
But I think you'll be able to use the 3G one just fine, which is why I'm getting one. Im fine with 3G
(I think) I was gonna ask /g/ about that...
i'm going to install cyanogenmod on my Nexus 5, but on the cyanogen website there are options for install for hammerhead-CAF or hammerhead. how do i know which one i need? also do you need to install the recovery file as well or do I just need the OS zip?
I have a WileyFox Swift
When ever I walk outside listening to music with my phone in my pocket after a while it randomly turns off and on again. First I thought it could be a security thing after typing the wrong password in the pocket, but that's not it. It's also very cold outside (around -20 Celsius / -4 Fahrenheit) if that matters
Anybody know what could be causing this and how to fix it?
Just bought a G4 and looking to root, does anyone have experience doing this? I also got a LG G pad x8.3 and wouldn't mind rooting that as well. Should I be worried about tripping anything?
i'm going from a galaxy ace ii to a z3 compact tomorrow. had this shit phone since may 2013. slow as fuck, and would be even slower without cm 11. can't wait to put it in a drawer.
Gf had a lumia someshit and hated it, so if you're a normie or semi-normie you won't have all the apps your friends do, and a lot of the ones you can get will be buggy. I haven't found a reason to choose one over android yet
disable any system app you don't use. turn off sync. set keep wi-fi on during sleep to never. put display timeout to 15 seconds. disable auto brightness.
check xda to make sure for certain your phone cannot be rooted/custom roms, in spite of the carrier rom.
150EUR = 163 USD
>prices limited to $175 USD maximum
>storage limited to 16GB minimum
>RAM limited to 2GB or higher
Just a heads up, Xiaomi is releasing their Mi 5 phone early next month. It's holding the Snapdragon 820, may be quad HD with 3000-3600mAh battery.
If you download the Complete mobile device guide and hover over the cells, you will see the comments I listed.

I'm having doubts when it comes to buying a phone. I've never gotten a smartphone and I don't want to spend too much, 350€ is my current budget.
I'm trying to pick between an LG G3 and an Asus Zenfone 2 and I got a couple of questions.
Is the Zenfone really a memephone?
Is the G3 overheating problem fixed?
How are the battery lives for both if I want to listen to music a lot?
Any way to extend them if they don't last for long?
Can I pirate emulators onto them to play my pokeymans and gayrpgs?
>Is the Zenfone really a memephone?
>Is the G3 overheating problem fixed?
>How are the battery lives for both if I want to listen to music a lot?
Battery life sucks on both, but G3 has removable battery. Motorola phones are the battery life kings atm, Moto X Play and Moto G3rdgen.
>Any way to extend them if they don't last for long?
>Can I pirate emulators onto them to play my pokeymans and gayrpgs?
Sure, there just aren't many that support your freedoms though. Most of them are paid too but I guess if you pirate, then it doesn't matter.
a moto 3rd gen does cost a solid 250euro where I live though, when I factor in shipping. That's just a bit more than I was looking to spend. I've heard some good stuff about the BLU life one X, but I can't seem to find it anywhere in europe
5 to 5 1/2 SoT with heavy shitposting and web browsing throughout the day. I get through a heavy day with 15% left. Marshmallow will increase this, or once Sultan ports his ROM.
Build quality for price of phone is out of this world but it picks up finger prints (and scratches, although I don't use a case or screen protector) easily, handles multitasking just fine.
Overall I'm happy for what I paid.
How is the lumia 550 for a csual user who isn't interested in social apps? It's dirt cheap, I can get it cheaper than even a redmi note 2 over here. So since I don't really trust those chinese phones it seems like a nice alternative.
Dear Anon, I need band 12 on Tmobile, and my only real options are 6p, 5x and Moto X Pure. I'm leaning towards the Moto X, but is it a dead phone now that Motorola is gone. Should I just wait for this year's phones to be announced?
>but is it a dead phone now that Motorola is gone
Motorola isn't gone, they're just dropping the branding name from packaging and advertising. They're staying with just Moto.
No, they're not dead.
I'm looking for a phone in a price range of Huawei P8. I won't say the dollar amount, cause I don't know prices in USA. Anything better than P8? I must have: 3.5mm jack, SD card slot. I've noticed the CPU in P8 (eight A53, four with 1.5Ghz, four 2GHz) is a bit slower than some others with similar prices (e.g. those with Snapdragon 810). does this make a lot of difference. Performance-wise I'd only like to be able to play PS1 games (including those hard to emulate like Tekken 3).
Shipping and they have preorders that are delivered on first-come basis. So basically the first shipment is accounted for when the retailers only receive ~2,000 thousand units each. Then you wait weeks for the next wave, and then a month plus for shipping and delivery.
Looking to replace my broken S4 for something in the range on 250 USD or less.
I think the only specific thing I'll miss is the IR sensor, since it turned my phone into a universal TV remote. What phones should I be looking at?
memes aside, what phone should I get? that is not apple. I'm a collegefag, I need an affordable phone with a pretty good camera and HUGE internal memory and is really fast, doesn't lag and shit. I've only ever had Samsung but I'm thinking about trying something else.
Windows Phones are quite nice, but WP 10 is not ready yet, and should have spent another 3-6 months in development, so try an 8.1 phone. Unlike Android, the budget options are quite nice to use, the only real flaws are the shit camera, lack of flash in the lowest models, and the sub 720p screen making some websites not work 100% (this is very very rare, but when it does happen it's very frustrating)
My phone came with 3gbs of space so I got a microsd card, and when I mounted it, my phone dosent have an option to save on an SD card. What should I do? It says I can take photos on my SD card but nothing else. It's frustrating to have only 2 apps max
Trying to get a phone for under 400€, was looking at the Nexus 6, G3, Galaxy S5 and the Zenfone 2. Any ideas on which one I should get and why? Battery life and durability are important but I also like to read a lot on the move.
I've personally can't fault it in any way. Despite having the S810, it's ran consistently cooler than any phone I've had before and the battery life is fairly decent. The screen is great once you turn on sRGB, the size is hardly daunting. The only negative is the price, which is a little bit much for what it is, in my opinion - but most phones are nowadays anyway.
I waffled between the Note5 and 6P. Had the 6P for a week and just wasn't too impressed.
Got the Note5 and been enjoying it a lot. I also go the GearVR for VR porn, so that certainly helps the coolness factor for me anyway.
spemall has it up for 130 euro with free shipping. Somehow this seems like too good a deal, since that ibuygou site has it for 145 and it's only a preorder. How trustworthy are these sites? I'm a bit paranoid about this.
I am thinking about OnePlus X and LG G Flex 2 (sadly only the 2GB option is available to me).
I plan to stick with it for the next couple of years. Which one do you think is better? Thanks.
I don't know, I've read some bad reviews. It's hard to really get a good look from those review sites though, since the good reviews could be shills and the bad reviews could just be trolls/whiny bitches. I've also read a few things about people getting malware installed ont heir device when buying them from spemall. Ibuygou has pretty decent reviews across the board though, so I might go with that.
Recently switched to a S5 and its fucking godawful. Assuming Verizon doesn't fuck me in the ass really hard on an upgrade, what is the best phone with the following features/specs?
>720p to 1080p screen
>Decent battery life
>No touchwizz or preinstalled trash
>4.4-5.1 inch screen
Finally giving Android a try, what do you think I should pick up for my first Android device? I'm leaning towards a Nexus 5X for the pure stock experience, but I'm curious as to what ya'll anons think.
What phone could I get that has an unlocked bootloader and will get android 6.0 that runs on verizon's network for a reasonable price? My Moto x 2014 is fine, just wondering for the future
I want to go from:
OPO -> Z5
But I know it's a bad time to do it, so I'm just going to wait til next year.
Phone market is shit RN, and anyone arguing phones is pretty much deluding themselves into believing smoke and water bullshit marketing.
I'm not sure what to here. The new redmi 3 seems pretty dope for the price, 2gb of ram and what seems to me like a decent screen and processor. But I'm not sure wether buying a chinese phone can give me a lot of problems in terms of software or not. I don't know an awful lot about smartphones, but the moto g 3rd gen that someone also recccomended me looks pretty similar and it costs 100 euro more over here. Would I be making a huge mistake in getting a redmi 3?
my nexus 5 died (wlan doesn't work anymore)
and I'm now looking for a good smartphone with the best price/performance ratio
One plus X, Samsung galaxy 5 neo and One plus 2 16gb (currently not avaible) are on my watchlist
Any recommendation or thoughts? budget ~350€
Yeah, I posted Moto G as a ref before I'd seen you say you were in Belgium. I'd still recommend saving up for it if possible, or just grabbing a cheap Moto E from 2015 and adding an ad card. Those blu phones always look great but are never rootable it seems, although they are getting good about updating them. I think they're really just rebranded Chinese phones though. They don't exactly develop anything themselves.
I thought the bootloader on the S5 was locked by Verizon? I could be wrong of course, but different sources say the G900-v models are pretty much fucked if the phone is on Lollipop.
Greenify seems interesting though, Ill check it out.
My iphone 4 is starting to die and my contract/plan finish next month. I'm want to go with android but I don't know which phone. I picked some that I'm interested:
-moto x play
-htc one m9
I'm looking for a phone that has a microsd slot, a battery that can hold for the day and not a huge ass phone.
What should I buy /g/?
My mother and I want to get new phones. So far I've been a Samsung fan since the note came out(I like to draw, doodle and shit). We both have note 3 phones and I want to move towards the iphone 6s plus. I really haven't used android to its full potential and I want to see how apple phones are.
So far my phone has been glitching like a bitch lately(I don't root, mod or download anything outside the playstore) and for an unknown reason it factory reset itself in my pocket while I was working, deleting everything.
So I really not sure about the iphone. Between the 6s plus and the note 5, I can do either. I just need to get a new phone. I paid our phone bills this past week and it feels like it could go towards better phones.
>my phone has been glitching like a bitch lately
>I don't root, mod or download anything outside the playstore
Well there's your problem. Install a good rom and some stability patches.
Anyone got any advice for a soon to be new android user? I've played around with tablets but soon i'll be getting an android phone as a daily driver (Nextbit robin) and I want to know if there's anything important i should do before i switch from IOS.
I just bought a sony z5 premium, had a note3 before. I've noticed that if I am playing videos the edges look squarish, like it needs anti-aliasing or something. anyone have the same issue?
I'm looking to replace my galaxy s5. It's gotten insanely slow as of late and has also stopped charging. I know what I'm looking for I just need help dwindling down the choices. Preferably for 400 or less. I really like the design of the one plus 2, I like the simplistic design of it. I'd really prefer a snapdragon and it needs to have a front facing camera. A fairly long battery as well. If I could choose one feature to stand out I guess I'd want it to be powerful in itself. I'm no expert so that's why I came here for help. Any suggestions will be nice.
