Whats the best Bloomfield/LGA 1366 processor? They're almost all realtively cheap, specifically the Xeon ones, and I wanna build an inexpensive gaming computer for my little step brothers.

LGA1150 is a dead socket at this point. The good motherboards are sold out and all that's left is cheap shit. If you're willing to go on eBay for a good motherboard then that's fine, but Intel isn't making LGA1150 CPUs anymore.

So I read somewhere that right now, you can get better value by buying the Xeon equiv of current i5s/i7s. Is this true?

I'm considering building a nice workstation for myself and it'd be great if I could get Xeon+ECC this time around without jacking up the cost too much. It'd be my first proper workstation hardware.

Depends on the deals.

If the 4790k is $279 and below, it'll be a better deal than the 1241 (sub-$260). It's literally 20% better.

But once the 4790k starts hiking up past $310, then the 1241 becomes more cost-effective.

This is why I opted for 6700k myself.

$300 for a decent x99 board and the house fire of haswell-e wasn't it worth it. I came from a house fire 8350 and didn't want to back into another one.

6700k build I got the same quality $300 x99 board for $200 on z170 with an updated chipset feature set, and saved myself $200 total. Didn't need as strong of a cooler so that saved money as well.

770 is a 680 with a beefier stock clocks. about 10-15% faster than a stock 680.

yes actually. thats been the case apparently with all intel processors since sandy. they're all great overclockers.

i hit 76C with a 1.3V overclock which is the highest recommended voltage for haswell-e,. they're not really that hot. haven't found my max overclock yet but i will once i finish my custom loop. it's currently stable at 4.4/1.25v.
