Ublock origin is a deprecated piece of shit ran by a fucking douchebag.

Use Ublock Origin, actually gets developed (by gorhill) and isn't retarded

Read this if you think I'm lying
https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/uBlock-vs.-uBlock-Origin:-Facts
>>
>>52313207
* Ublock is a deprecated piece of shit. Not ublock origin, my mistake

>>

Aren't they basically one and the same still? It's only been a couple of months since the split and basic function is identical.
>>
>>52313207
I think everyone knows that already.

>>52312968
Malware? As in their ads contain malware?
>>
I recall someone entertaining an idea of unblockable ads that would make use of crypto provided by TPM
I don't remember how it worked but it sounded plausible
>>
This is the result of something I have harked on about several times on /g/ about the problem with the Internet advertising model where companies have no control over the adverts that get served on their site.
They just dump in some elements and a script from the advertiser and count the advertising pennies. It's a terrible model. If the same thing was done in physical advertising spaces you would see pornography advertising showing up on TV during the middle of the day, or in the newspaper or magazines.

If you are going to advertise then you should be vetting what is going through to your users because it is YOUR responsibility. They are using your service because of what YOU provide.
>>
>>52313399
>modern world corporations
>responsibility
jejejejejejejejejejejej
>>
>>52313207
Who the hell are you talking to? Anyone who's been here for two weeks would already have heard of all this shit.
>>
>>52313399
>If the same thing was done in physical advertising spaces you would see pornography advertising showing up on TV during the middle of the day
I'd be more ok with this than half the ads on youtube. My wife's son would agree.
>>
>>52313375

The split was in April, and uBlock Origin does a shit ton more now.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UBlock#Release_history

All those features added in uBlock Origin since then are not in uBlock. Hell gorhill neutered google analytics pretty much forver. And Forbes bows before the power of Origin.
>>
>>52314450
So why again is /g/ still worshipping staleman instead of this curly motherfucker?

>tfw i'm an animator and i make money from ads on youtube
>tfw i and other animators all have patreons but barely anyone donates for animation (like gonzosm 1.3 million subs patreon has a total of $417).
>tfw if i go work for a big animation firm it will be the same thing as now but instead i'll be making what someone else said and it will be put on tv for the same ad revenue
>tfw i hate ads too but no other ways to make money with it

Feels bad man.
>>
>>52314744
Keep taking their money and I'll keep blocking the ads, I don't see a problem.
>>
>>52314775
I'd like to but it won't be viable sometime this year.

Bassicly due to CPM changes that go by watch time instead of views despite having millions of views per video, i and other animators can only upload once a month (often less) and the animations are 1-3 minutes long (or sometimes longer at a hit of quality).

Since this changed in 2012 every year revenue has gone down, i went from earning about $6000 a month for my 4 million views to about $900 now for the same views.
>>
>>52314744
>1,3 millions
>$417
And yet some dude drawing porn comics is getting $4.4 grand from his 1183 subscribers...
>>
>>52313207

is there an ad blocker with which I can whitelist videos from specific youtube channels?

yeah, otherwise they potentially conflict plus wasted resources

companies really fucking blew it with ads.

People gave them a chance and they totally went full retard with over the top ads everywhere and now its come to the point where people install ad blockers in droves and won't even give the most harmless ad a chance.

I say good, they fucked this up for themselves, they should have reigned in their shitty behavior years ago.

The downside to all of this is all this bullshit sneaky sponsored content that is becoming harder to distinguish from actual journalism - since that too took a nose dive when newspapers started to cut budgets.

Fuck em. I don't feel sorry for them. All jounalists do is spin sensationalist shit from none stories. Real news channels and niche professiolnal publications will for ever endure.
>>
>>52314802

I see this as a change for the better to be honest. Everyone is tired of clickbaiter shits getting payed and polluting the shit out of tags.

Maybe it's time to stol sucking the short skit shlong and develop something that doesn't revolve around flavour of the month.
>>
>>52319652
By all means, do tell me how i can animate 30 minute long videos in 10 days.
>>
I tried getting thru forbes yesterday, neither disabling JS or using a proxy or using a command line fetcher to get the page works, they probably use some sort of cookie? to see if you went thru the welcome page, what needs to be done is this cookie or whatever be added into ublock so we can bypass forbes adware

The thing I love about adblock software is that there's nothing they can do about it.
They plead, they beg, they scream, they slam their fists, they can't stop me from blocking their ads.
They implement some kind of "disable adblocker to view this page" feature? Well I've just blacklisted the site and it will never show up in a search engine for me again, enjoy.
You know what sites have the privilege of displaying ads to me? The ones that aren't intrusive.
>>
>>52313207
I'll stick with Adblock+ rather than jump on your memewagon.

>I'm so afraid of new things I'll pass on them
>>
>>52319939
You use Arch don't you?
>>
>>52319875
Yeah I can agree with some of this, though I don't really do whitelisting of ads, I will try to correct some site breaking things but not whitelist just for ads. Also there are some anti adblocking killer filters that help with some cases of them trying to block you. Pretty much a giant back and forth war now.
>>
>>52319995
I do. You probably use Sugar OS with a supervisor to tell you how to click apps use a menu etc
>>
>>52320083
How does it feel to be a living stereotype?
>>
>>52313112
Won't be for long. Aside from them upping the SJW'ing and adding content that has nothing to do with technology/gadgets, their latest redesign is frighteningly horrible

It's destroyed the quality of previously good channels though.
See: any channel that previously produced high quality content that now just uploads 4 hour long Twitch streams because it doesn't require any thought or editing.

they seem to have something at the DNS level where if your IP didn't go through the ads in the database you get put into the welcome page, they put alot of effort into making you click their ads to get their low quality articles, jews lmao

I don't remember it exactly, but I used to let ads on here work until, like, 2 months or so ago, when it all went down and even moot-sama told me to better not do it.

Not any of the people you were responding to, but I'm just wondering, why imply that anyone is "doing things differently just to say you're unique and compensate for a sense of inferiority ;D"? Were you intending to respond to a gentoo user rather than the user of the most popular os? Because if that was not the case, there were much more relevant insults you could've used; e.g. "at least not I am going along with the sheep persons to is a fit in because insecure."

>>
>>52324399

Do you really want to enable ads on a website run by a notoriously amoral data-mining crook?
>>
>>52324399
Possibly.
The ads get served by script through some other network so there is always the possibility that a malicious ad could get inserted and served out of 4chan.

It would be much better if they just did that Nyaa does. They just use flat image files with hyperlinks. No scripts.
