To consumers that buy an item whose value is partially derived from the social status of owning said item, they feel compelled to share with people that they own it, even anonymously, because it validates their decision to themselves.

To tech people they are tools, and you can argue about whether one tool is more suited for a particular purpose than another based on its utility, but the status of owning a tool has no inherent value beyond its functionality.

The two types of people are irreconcilable.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that people are strictly one or the other and cannot realize the sort of value that comes with owning a piece of technology both in terms of utility and the status it may bring.

Although not exactly typical, those in "the know" may realize the implications that come owning one device over the other due to its features could very much say something about that person and thus make particular judgements about them. It especially happens here.

Whilst not all (probably most of them) of the rich people compensate their lack of personality and own insecurities with their wealth, there are some who do and would provide absolutely nothing to personal relationships without their money.

Rich kids whose parents completely replace money with affection are one good example - I knew one guy like this. Paying for commodities and throwing parties is an easy way to attract people, but may also be the only thing which keeps them around - if their money diminishes, so do the people around.

There's things you can't (directly) buy with money, but it's not that being wealthy automatically transforms you into some soulless money sack. A lot of wealthy people fall for this meme however, and then complain how "nobody understands me" and "may people just be around for my money/status?"

Nonetheless, there's also self-aware richfags who do this and just don't give a fuck.
