Why does /g/ care so much about status and whether you are poor or not? Why does it matter if some of us don't have the latest and greatest tech toys if what we currently have works just fine for our needs?
Poor people are just disgusting to be around in general. They're usually ugly, poorly-educated and smell bad. Obviously two of those don't matter here, but purging poor people would probably raise the level of discourse around here.
I feel unfulfilled if I have old shit and cant afford to go to expos like CES and all I get in the mail are bills. I cant even afford a 4chan pass since I have to buy groceries and not starve to 100lbs. Society made me this way
To consumers that buy an item whose value is partially derived from the social status of owning said item, they feel compelled to share with people that they own it, even anonymously, because it validates their decision to themselves.
To tech people they are tools, and you can argue about whether one tool is more suited for a particular purpose than another based on its utility, but the status of owning a tool has no inherent value beyond its functionality.
The two types of people are irreconcilable.
Im not poor, poor people are the ones who constantly crave new material things. When you're on your deathbed, all these things wont matter. You'll only regret wasting your life on frivolous things.
I care about things who really matter, like friends, relationships and living life in general.
But you are an Ameritard, what can i expect from you people. Yeah bro, go buy the latest GPU and CPU.
It happens when theres an anonymous board in internet consisting of both anime board and technology board. No other reason. I'd say Reddit is better than 4chan except that mods in reddit are sometimes like George Bush
I dropped $700 on a new phone, most ive ever paid for a phone. But i save my money up and i can afford it so yeah. I couldnt give a fuck if someone cant afford brand new tech but im not gonna be a dickhead to them about it.
Not one person on this board is concerned with what China is doing to the economy this week, a lot are concerned that their VR toy is too expensive though proving how fucking poor all of /g/ is.
when you're uneducated, poor, and lacking in skillsets and good hygiene, you have to cope with your condition somehow. projecting about people better off than them is how they do it.
I would bet money that youre living off your parents money. Having money doesnt make you more intelligent lmaoo. Not in the slightest bit. Im not broke but im also not gonna brag about how much i spend on the internet. ESPECIALLY not 4chan. Come on lil man. Atleast try to show off on Instagram or something. But im assuming you dont have many friends for you to show off to. )): poor guy. You seem more like the pleb here. Not broke people.
I made $27k this year. I have a home server, a gaming desktop with an i7, a thinkpad, a 4k TV, a drone, and pre-ordered the rift.
I'm married and have a daughter.
There's no excuse for not having what you want.
That's every board on 4chan, really.
You haven't seen /sci/ and their dickploma measuring contests.
>PhD in Bioinformatics, $1000000k starting, suck my dick
>lol bioinformatics, enjoy your noemployment. Math/EE double major masterrace here.
because this board is full of insecure overweight prepubescents who get bullied at school and they need to justify their useless existence by giving themselves a false sense of superiority
Jesus Christ, how inept are you that you couldn't pool together your $20 and buy basic ingredients to make nice meals 4 times a week? Or even just buy $1 oven pizzas and save some money?
>ITT: morons having buyers remorse after spending their money on literally 0100111001110010
>tfw poorly educated and smell bad most of the time but not poor
blue collar life is the life for me
I used to feel that way. Dunno what changed but now I look on that kind of stuff almost in disgust. When you take a step back and look at how people freak out over muh samusungu or 8000K TVs. Yeah it's cool, but it's not really any kind of necessity so I personally feel indifferent now.
Think about it, its the only place where apartment-dwelling techies in their 20s can insult someone inferior them without fearing for their safety. That comic strip with a guy that gets lightly bullied and then rants about it on the 4chan, thats you guys. Probably got punked or mugged by some gang member and now you go on the internet talking about purging people.
None of these posts would be uttered in person to someone's face. Bunch of cowards that got a little bit ahead in life and got nothing better to do than shit on people slightly less fortunate, despite being in nearly the same social class. Its petty, but youre petty people so its to be expected.
because /g/ is full of
>tech hipsters whose sense of self-worth hinges on how trendy their facebook machines and media consumption appliances are
>gaymer kiddos and other faggots with more money than sense that think tech enthusiast == consumer
>code monkeys fresh out of college who are only in it for the money and have lots of disposable income and no family, friends, significant others or meaningful hobbies to spend it on
>retard crossboarders from /v/ and /b/ with grandma-tier use basic cases that are only here to shitpost and show and tell
>paid shills with a vested financial interest in making you feel inferior for using technology you enjoy instead of technology that makes them money
I wouldn't go as far as saying that people are strictly one or the other and cannot realize the sort of value that comes with owning a piece of technology both in terms of utility and the status it may bring.
Although not exactly typical, those in "the know" may realize the implications that come owning one device over the other due to its features could very much say something about that person and thus make particular judgements about them. It especially happens here.
I just want to live a basic live with some technology for comfort.
I could seriously live in one of those 250-300 square foot apartments and be happy. I enjoy the little things in life such as drinking tea and smoking a little weed while listening to pianists.
If the government ever establishes an basic universal income i'd take it because i'm so bottom of the barrel when it comes to wealth. I work part time at a clothing store's warehouse making chump change.
Not being poor means you don't have to worry about food and shelter, can afford things you like without making cuts and generally enjoy a higher quality of life if you're not retarded with your money and relationships.
It's not just about tech, but living in general.
>poor equals uneducated
>poor equals lacking in skillsets
>poor equals bad hygiene
I'm not biting on these parts, but...
Whilst not all (probably most of them) of the rich people compensate their lack of personality and own insecurities with their wealth, there are some who do and would provide absolutely nothing to personal relationships without their money.
Rich kids whose parents completely replace money with affection are one good example - I knew one guy like this. Paying for commodities and throwing parties is an easy way to attract people, but may also be the only thing which keeps them around - if their money diminishes, so do the people around.
There's things you can't (directly) buy with money, but it's not that being wealthy automatically transforms you into some soulless money sack. A lot of wealthy people fall for this meme however, and then complain how "nobody understands me" and "may people just be around for my money/status?"
Nonetheless, there's also self-aware richfags who do this and just don't give a fuck.
What the fuck? This is inanely ignorant. I'm 6'4, white, in shape, and smell great. So what if I don't have a degree, that's not what makes you stand out to those with higher standings.
>I could seriously live in one of those 250-300 square foot apartments
I wish that was real at a reasonable price
instead you get shit like this
No bubble here, nothing to see here, move along, never going to crash
People on /g/ usually have terrible self-confidence from the lack of social life and disinterest from women, so they desperately latch onto anything they can to feel superior and gain a sense of worth. I wish I could pay for therapy for each of you and see you finally smiling and happy :(
