why is gimp such a piece of shit?
>>
Because nobody who understands HID has ever worked on the project.
>>
Its fine actually
>>
it#s not really bad, it's just that photoshop is far superior and the industry standard. it's fine if you take the price into consideration
>>
I think you mispelled "why is GIMP so fucking awesome and also free"

ppl complaining about gimp have never used it
>>
>>52308378
>ppl complaining about gimp have never used it
wrong
>>

no, they're complaining because they used it, and didn't like it, you idiot
>>
>>52308447
>less than 10 minutes of usage
>"omg anon, this is shit, I can't even use gimp in one window"
yeah right
obiviously photoshop is better, but gimp is superior software for free
>>
what about krita? It feels faster and has a better UI imho senpai
>>
>>52308486
most amateurs who use photoshop pirate it, so the free argument doesnt hold
>>
>>52308518
it's good for creating art. not so much for pixel manipulation

Either this, or it's just very complex.
I can't compare with Ps.
I try to learn by googling everything I can't guess, but I'm sure that with a good old paper manual, I'd get a better grasp of the concepts of layers, add an alpha channel, and everything.
One thing I learnt lately (after raging a little because it's easy on MS Paint) is how to fill an area with the bucket tool. By default, there's a certain sensitivity, which you have to switch to 0 if you want your good old plain color bucket fill.
>>
Gimp is good for learning photo editing and creating art for beginners and for fast editing . For more advanced work i use Photoshop ...
>>
>>52308570
if by complex you means it's extremely contrived yet still lacks basic features that photoshop has had since CS3, then definitely.
>>
>>52308570
Also, I rage less since I've discovered trying SHIFT or Ctrl everytime I don't get what I want.
Like for moving a layer, SHIFT def. helps.
>>
No idea, it must be pretty shitty though 'cause a few months ago I saw some linux user in extreme excitement because they got photoshop cs2 working "almost fine" using wine.

Why even make life choices that lead to that amount of torture and inconvenience?
>>
>>52308644
Linux's best feature is obviously privacy.
>>
>>52308272
Because it has different icons in different places and because of a little thing called baby duck syndrome.
>>
>>52308272
GIMP is the only image editor I use on Windows or Linux, don't act like it isn't good enough for making your shitty "real nigga hours" memes.
>>
Finally got used to gimp and now I hate photoshop.
>>
>>52308551
pajeet my son

Will you use Photoshop, the graphics editor that is made by a respectable company, and is also used by professional designers

or a buggy graphic editor made by a bunch of sweaty teens in their free time?
>>
>>52308551
Kanker!
>>
>>52308644
>No idea, it must be pretty shitty though 'cause a few months ago I saw some linux user in extreme excitement because they got photoshop cs2 working "almost fine" using wine.
What? CS6 works with wine perfectly after adding some microsoft packages through winetricks.
>>
>>52308756
>What? CS6 works with wine perfectly after adding some microsoft packages through winetricks.

but why would you go to all that effort if gimp is so good as people make out?
>>
So, WTF is an alpha channel, and what's the use?
>>
>>52308486
It could be superior non- to somewhat semiprofessional free software, but people behind it understand fuck all about proper workflow management and interface design.

Whenever I use GIMP I immediately think of this page: http://www.gnu.org/graphics/package-logos.html

These logos just couldn't embody everything that sucks about GNU any more accurately.

it's actually quite difficult to reproduce the famous memegenerator look and feel.
involves writing text along a path, or something. To get those nice black borders.

Funfact: Codeweavers was a major contributor to the wine project and created their crossover software under contract to Disney so they (Disney) could run photoshop on their linux clusters.

Neither does Adobe. Photoshop is literally the worst shitfest of pointless menus obfuscating menus I've ever seen bar Windows 7.

Nah dipshit, path to text, then you expand the selection a bit. That's not difficult, that's some of the easiest shit on earth.

I've used Photoshop since version 5.0.

GIMP took some getting used to, but it's great.
Learn how to use the script and plugin system for stuff that you can get in Photoshop out of the box. Lack of CMYK support hurts though.

because something that would take me less than 30 seconds in photoshop takes 2 or more hours to do in GIMP.

Who the fuck wants to spend time looking up tutorials on how to change the fucking size of your brush, only to find out you have to manually bind keys to alter the brush size? Yeah, that's way more convenient than having a fucking slider on the menu bar like in photoshop.

Fuck GIMP. I'm glad I installed PlayOnLinux to get a free copy of Photoshop CS2 to work rather than spend months or years configuring GIMP just so I can stitch screenshots together.

SUPER SECRET BONUS: You can scroll your mouse over it and it will change.

Don't worry, anon. Making that pic reminded me of when they first added in that feature so many years ago. I was overflowing with joy and I giggled like a little girl for days. I have loved Gimp deeply ever since.

GIMP has the most stupid UI I never sew.

Want to delete a layer?
Click on the layer, press delete... Nothing happens. Why? It's stupid.

Want to open the tool option (the most important widget)? What is the shortcut for that? There is no shortcut for that.

Everything is like that. GIMP worst design ever.
