If you guys hate windows 10 so much because "muh botnet", and, why don't we just make a community fork of this? Or just use the registry hack that allows you to continue getting updates until 2019?
>>
a community fork of proprietary software?
>>
It's called XFCE.
>>
>>52308002
Sure, I mean, it might be technically illegal but you really think Microsoft would give a shit? Its XP.
>>
>>52307983
It hard to fork software if you don't have the source code. You can try to remplement it from scratch, in which case ReactOS is probably the closest thing you can find.
>>
>>52308260
This.
Plus, if it was going to be done, it should of been done a while ago while software could still run flawlessly on XP. Lots of catch-up to do if XP was the chosen fork point.
>>
>>52307983
Your'e scared of Microsoft using your PC as part of a botnet so your two solutions are to either use a hacked version of an outdated, unsupported operating system created by anonymous people on an image board or to use it with unofficially supported updates available through altering the registry?

5 star plans, OP.
>>
it's called ReactOS. But I like XP better.

>muh updates
Where we are we don't need updates.Turn this shit off Anon.
>>
>>52307983
installed a windows xp today for someone
gave me some solid aids
so fucking happy to be sitting behind my botnet again
>>

>>

i dunno, but the registry hack seems to have stopped working for me.
>>

Because we're running linux, you hapless techno-weenie.
>>
Lubuntu system requirements:
>1 GB RAM
>MINIMUM Pentium 4 or better

XP:
>64 MB RAM
>233 MHz processor

enjoy the bloat, fosstists
>>
i prefer the botnet, thanks
>>
>>52311255
this. XP boots straight in ten seconds on a dualcore thinkpad. same lightweight Mint + XFCE takes 25-30.
really i never had any issue. i do regular backups, i occasionally play games that runs pretty well on that PC.

what else? i stopped giving a fuck, all the newest versions of windows are garbage, and Linux isn't always stable.

i know too many people who are like
>"shit they cancelled the support for proprietary drivers and now i'm running 1024x768... but it's fine they care about us... what's your distro Anon?"

"XP pro."
>>
>>52311324

wow, the world's server admins are really suffering because of linux's instabilities
>>

Windows 7 and shut the fuck up.

>>
>>52311355
linux is good on a server, but dsesktop distros are pure shit anon, only a workaround for people who just need an office suite, a web browser, chat and read mails. that's all. nothing else.

occasionally it just breaks, you turn on your PC and you got that
grub rescue>
shell. for no reason.
every linux user has to deal with it.
>>
why don't you just write your own OS OP?

If you want a backdoor free Windows, you need to go down to at least Win2000.

My whole tech illiterate family uses Mint without a single problem mate.
>>
>>52312442
>>52312419
It's true, happened to me several times. Mint, Debian, xubuntu. all comes at some point either it stops booting, and crashes. Either it will receive an update and nothing works anymore, and entire nights trying to discuss with more clueless, so-called Linux Geeks.

Linux's motto is :"it's fine, because it works on my PC, I don't give a shit it might be your fault"

At this point I completely understand why the regular guy doing just office/business stuff, web and watching videos on a PC will move back to Windows XP!

It just works.
It is no longer updated.
It will never change.

It barely changed since 2001.

I really think the day Linux will be at the height of Windows XP; a big step will be done. In fact, I'm trying now to find recommendations for an old laptop where I could use it and keep it. I am fucking tired of Linux, I used it for a decade and I can't take it anymore.
>>
>>52312442
I've been using Ubuntu since 8.10, with auto-updates on, and have since updated that same install continually to 15.10. I have never once gotten a grub rescue prompt; and I've been using this same exact OS install since 2008. I've even changed hardware during this time, yet every fucking time it boots.

So yeah, you're retarded
>>
>>52312560
It's time to stop samefagging and realize that it isn't the OS, it's you. You are literally retarded and you will never, ever fit in here.
