There has to be a more cost-effective way of doing this than re-purposing an entire LCD panel.
>>
>>52301881
You say that as if they were insanely expensive or something
>>
>>52301881
It's a $200 seiki

You can just put a few small screens where you want info.
Stick an old phone wherever you want a screen.

>>
>>52302058
you don't have to use the whole mirror area as a display area as well. something like info corners or whatever, use a shitty old notebook screen or whatever.

I guess we're looking at two different ones.

Look at the damn font size man, a 1080p panel would render that as a smudgy blur.

Most of the appeal of this is the nice typography.

This seems like a ghetto version of those OLED mirrors that were demoed at various shows a few years back

$120 latitude 2.6 ghz i5 + 8 gb
>>
>>52302903
I remember a few years ago it was similar tech except it was on windows and not mirrors.
The downside was the window could only be as big as they could make TV screens.

So much shit gets pumped out and largely forgotten about because it never catches on.
>>
>>52300677
I'm fat and ugly...why would I waste money to look at myself more often than I need?
>>
>>52303034
It's too bad, if I were building a house I'd totally make my bathroom sink mirrors one of these things because why not?

The OLED tinting windows were cool as fuck too and they're a fucking poster child for HomeKit, etc "smart home" devices.
>>
>>52303034
i'm sure OLED being prohibitively expensive to scale up to larger sizes had something to do with it. especially a couple years ago. it's still expensive now, just imagine back then.
>>
Well, shit

I kinda want one now

A waste is a waste, wasting money is how poor people stay poor and how the rich become poor. $150 isn't a small amount, if you're replacing existing mirrors at $150 each for the novelty of it then that's just stupid not even considering the fact it's not $150 alone, this adds to your power bill daily just to keep it on unless you want to wait for it to boot every time you're in the bathroom.

Does mommy pay your bills or do you blow your investments on dumb shit like this?
>>
>>52306412
150 quid and the tiny amount of power used on an extra monitor and pi is fuck all m8.

Although an interesting addon to the project would be a motion sensor to turn the screen on when it detects someone is there.
>>
>>52306442
No wonder mac users are poor.
>>
>>52306412
It will be funny when the shower steam gets to the circuits in these things.
>>
So I want to make one of those mirrors, but with voice control. Unfortunately Google scrapped their voice recognition API and now I'm wondering about a possible setup (hardware, OS, APIs).

I saw that the dude in the OP uses Ubuntu Mate. Does it support Chromium as well? I think I need to go with Chromium, because there now is a voice recognition API for HTML5, but so far only Chrome supports it. Any other ideas?
>>
>>52306412
Might as well sell your computer and live in a shed somewhere anon. I mean, that is cheaper than living in a house/apartment and all you're doing with your computer is shitposting on /g/ autisictally anyway.

I mean, you're not going to get rich doing this are you? I bet mommy pays your bills.
>>
What kind of person spends enough time in front of a mirror for something like that to be worth the cost?
Holy shit
>>
>>52306618
mycroft
>>
>>52306618
>Google voice recognition API
>Have a conversation in the same room as your mirror
>Every word is sent to Google to be decoded and logged
Great idea. I'm not even being paranoid, that's what will happen openly
>>
>>52306795
The funny thing is my computers are probably the most important part in how I generate revenue. How I spend my leisure time on something I already own anyway shouldn't matter, I didn't buy it specifically to complain on and I don't have to pay more to add that functionality either. Just because my opinions trigger you doesn't mean they're shitposts either :^)

All I'm saying is this is a cheap novelty at a not so cheap cost, you can disagree if you want but I won't care in the same way you don't care for mine either.

>>52306442
I owe you an apology, I shouldn't have been so rude out of the gate like that and certainly shouldn't have directed it at you.
