Android made for desktops.
Available free for X86.
Literally nothing bad to say.
Does it work with Google Play? Is it released under GPL or another free license? Would it be suitable for HTPC use? Is it compatible with Marshmallow? Does it have per-app permission settings?
If the answer to all these is yes, then mite b cool.
>Literally nothing bad to say.
Except the whole Android part.
I buy a desktop/laptop so I can run a real operating system on it, not some dumbed down phone trash for facebook tards.
>real operating system
An OS is an OS. Linux users used to say this about Windows years ago until they realized that it was a stupid argument. Freedom is the most important thing.
Why the fuck would I want my desktop to run on a phone OS?
Suppose you want me to start pawing at the screen too to make anything work, or are you going to overhaul the whole interface stack while you're at it?
I installed android-x86 on my old shitty netbook
>hpmini 311, Nvidia ION, atom 1.6ghz. 2GBram
surprisingly it run fast. faster than any linux
I mean more fluid, I could watch HD videos on youtube with no hiccups, something that no linux distro with no WM could ever do.
This could open a new era for those so autistic to install linux on normies' pcs, android is harder to fuck up than windows but simpler to use than linux, and it's a recognisable name, so they won't ask why this strange 'buntu doesn't work
If it has memory management, a file directory, and can interface with external devices like a printer, it is a real operating system. Everything else is convenience, and there probably already are compilers for C and other languages for Android. You're just an idiot.
>Does it work with Google Play?
Has it bulit in.
>Is it released under GPL or another free license?
Same license as android.
>Would it be suitable for HTPC use?
>Is it compatible with Marshmallow?
Jide will update it to Marshmallow
>Does it have per-app permission settings?
Same as with android, so yes.
>he doesn't play flappy bird<
Holy fuck you better be shitting me
I get so worked up whenever I read this shit.
Where the fuck do you think you are you limey cunt
>S-shit, if I don't think of something fast I won't be able to afford to use the premium designated shitting street tonight
>Wait! I know! Just totally misinterpret the post and take it literally, that's like an instant win!
If I wanted an oversized phone, I would buy a tablet. I use a desktop or laptop when I want a computer I can actually use to run multiple applications at once that are something more than trendy glorified web portals.
>Then it's just hype and spam.
Made by ex-Google employees. They already have a $70 hardware version in the market for about a year. It's not spam. This is their second CES.
I just want something to repurpose my old athlon 2000+ laptop.
Is this OS efficient enough for that?
Fuck that. This os is shit.
Android is currently pretty much everything that was wrong with Windows 10 years ago. Shit design, viruses, malware, evil company, laggy, bloated, unstable, and insecure.
I'm excited about this project. Android has a massive amount of compatible software, and it's potential is quite crippled because of the android platforms, most being tiny screens with slow cpu's and rarely over 1gb of ram. I've used Android x86 on standard laptops and IT FUCKING FLIES. Only problem was the silly GUI, that doesn't really make sense on a PC. You want a panel, a WM, etc. Remix OS is adding just that to the already excellent Android x86 OS.
This could be 2016's gamechanger OS.
You know the answer to this issue senpai
What is their target audience? Some nebulous group of facetards looking at their desktops and going "man, Windows and Mac sure are complicated, I wish my desktop ran a gimped smartphone operating system, that would be trendy as fuck!"
And in any case, if you're part of that target audience you don't belong on /g/ anyway.
I will abslotely test this out once it comes out.
This + root + afwall + xprivacy will make an epic secure OS, plus busybox installs a lot of the typical linux tools. fdroid would work nicely on this too.
tl;dr will download on day 1
>literally nothing bad to say
I know what you mean but Android is too big to be replaced right now. It'll also not be as bad since you can run Android with 16 GB of RAM now.
Hopefully it would just scale correctly out of the box. I know that KDE doesn't do this yet.
This just in:as an official addon the Pushbullet team is proud to announce that we are going to be on Remix OS to expand the notification center so that you can have your usual Pushbullet goodies without bugs or errors!
I was going to install linux but then I said, why should I have to wait for the other OS to chew and enjoy the food of new software just to sit there waiting for the other OS to shit out the program to enjoy it?
so you can run a fucking smartphone OS on a laptop to run apps, that are usually things you can run on your web browser with a desktop OS ?
Fuck off. This shit will never be used.
>android made for desktops
>mobile-oriented os on non-touchscreen platform with entirely different input/controls
>literally nothing bad to say
y-yeah, i guess so
>surprisingly it run fast. faster than any linux
Yeah what a surprise. But does it run faster than windows?
