Yes, Netflix in Canada is kinda shitty. I have a subscription that I share with my family cause it's nice to have quick access to some shows I like but it will never take the place of my media server.
NETFLIX DOESN'T HAVE MY SHOW ANYMORE
>netflix becomes available
>priced in euros
>everything is in english
what's the fucking point
>pay money every month to watch a (extremely limited) set of TV and Movies
>pay absolutely nothing to watch anything I want, from AAA Hollywood movies to obscure tv drama from Africa or something
Gee, I wonder
This. Who the fuck wants to use what's basically the equivalent of TV on the Internet?
Perhaps old normalfags who have their children download shows and movies for them to watch, but what's the point of these anti-piracy threads on 4chan, and especially on /g/?
i still torrent movies yeah.
will probably stop netflix after this runs out.
I like netflix, but it's mostly just a time waster. You can't treat it like this:
>I want to watch X, we'll just use netflix
You need to treat it like this:
>lets look for something to watch on netflix. (Unless you happen to know if what you want is on netflix)
Netflix has an alright selection, but it's ratio of things-it-has to all-movies/tv-that-exist is really low, and there's a good chance what you want won't be on it.
I just rip my dvds and blu-rays and watch them over the network. It's faster, local, and significantly higher quality (though private trackers have good rips I gather). My only problem with legal optical media is that it's physical, and has a bunch of bullshit. Once I have the content as a simple file on my network I'm more than happy to have paid for it.
Netflix can't IVTC without leaving combing all over the fucking place.
Netflix is also, what, 6Mbps max 1080p? I'm here redoing a Blu-ray because my 720p downscale at 6Mbps didn't have enough bitrate. 1080p at 12Mbps is looking much better.
Good work netflix.
>many people think netflix and youtube have 1080p video
I've had Netflix for years and it costs me €7 a month but I still stream or torrent because tv shows and movies show up years later than shown in the US.
Netflix also doesn't have any Bollywood or Chinese or Korean movies and tv series that I like watching.
I can be the only one who thinks Netflix's selection is pathetic. Even with an american vpn the selection fucking sucks. It doesn't even have classic movies from 50 years ago. I might as well just buy an uploaded account and download the good shit directly for that money
Typical amerifat question.
Netflix USA isn't the same as Netflix anywhere else. Their selection will be shit anywhere else in the world mostly.
Torrent is still a better solution in most of the world because there are no other ways to get the media. Most of the time around the world you don't have the option of buying shit that was o ly available when it was released some stuff never even leaves the US borders.
I'm this guy
this so much. Where do you stream bro? I mostly download or use putlocker but the audio is out of sync most of the time and that drives my autism nuts.
>tfw no arty-streaming site with hd movies
>be in Canada
>get vpn to murica
>murican selection better, but shit as well
>keep service for a few shows, but continue torrenting
Netflix is basically the bargain bin at Walmart.
When it first came around they had a lot of movies and shows. They used to have a shit ton of Godzilla movies and I would be watching it for hours. They got rid of all them then brought the shitty ones back like 2 years ago then just got rid of them again. But other than that the variety has gotten worse but some of their original shows are good.
> non american asks where can I buy product A
> American points to amazon.com
You don't get it Francine, he can't just use amazon for several reasons, needs us credit card with a US address, won't ship overseas, if it ships overseas he will be importing it which means he has to pay customs fees and depending on the country he may have to literally go to the offices of customs to pay and collect the product he ordered.
If it doesn't exist in the national market he literally can't buy it.
It really depends on what you use to watch Netflix
From 4 different devices, each come out with a different quality. It seems my set top box has the best quality out of all of them, its looks exactly like my dvd version. While my s4 looks the worse of the bunch, but i have an s5 using the same app build and my s5 is the second best looking, I can't capture a scree shot from it because "LOL, DRM PROTECTED IMAGE". And my computer is the third best looking. All my devices have at least a speed of 75mbps while the set top box is wired
Pic related is the s4 on the Netflix app
> living in Germany
> selection of titles is horrible
> tv is horrible
> got vpn but selection is still bad
> can't watch tv, can't watch official streaming sites
I still prefer Netflix over TV though. TV is so unbelievable bad in Germany, you wouldn't believe it.
But Plex is so much nicer.
Couchpotato + Sonarr is better than Netflix or any competitor. Current shows are usually in my Plex server an hour or two after airing.
American TV is godsent. You guys don't even know what you have. Everything in america is basically pop-culture while everything in germany is basically a rip-off of BAD american tv. And when germans try to be funny don't even get me started.
Netflix' Auswahl is dermaßen beschissen, auch mit Proxy. Stream lieber auf Putlocker/Veehd. Da gibts ganz gute Sachen.
Just forgot: There's Veehd which often times has a weirdly wide selection of really good /arthouse flicks. Sadly the quality is mostly meh but it's sometimes better than putlocker. You gotta log-in to get rid of those atrocious ads though
I live in the Netherlands though. There are one or two good shows, but they're not worth paying for cable for.
Have you ever been to the USA? I have. My impressions were: Shitty sitcoms (the same as we have here), a shitload of commercials and dumb brainwash-tier shit like Fox.
I'm from Spain and friends convinced me to make an acc. The content is pretty shit, I've already seen most of the good stuff and new series like Fargo or Hannibal S3 aren't even on Netflix. I paid for a year aswell and I regret it.
Netflix is good if you want a TV in the background you just let it play forever and make some noise.
>start downloading YIFY
>take a piss
>proceed to enjoy the movie in HD
>all this for free
>have to pay for shitty shows that nobody watches
>shit movie selection
Netflix is fine for the TV series that are actually on there, and that's what I use Netflix for.
But I want my movies in bluray quality, and Netflix cannot deliver this, not to mention that Netflix's selection of movies is just fucking awful.
>Netflix is good if you want a TV in the background you just let it play forever and make some noise.
that's kinda deep man.
apart from friends and x files I can't even think of any good series on there.
>excluding their own
>Banding and artefacts all the fuck over anything on Netflix
>highest possible quality
>YIFI isnt bad
Except for when you want to HEAR YOUR FUCKING MOVIE then yeah he's disastrous.
How no one ever comments on the fact that the audio on all his files is always super low is beyond me; I have to crank up the volume on my system in every possible way for the movie to be loud. This has been a recurring problem for years and it never changed.
>watch Russian comedy movie
>a character yells at a cow to stop looking at him
>he shoots the cow for looking at him
>the farmer comes up very angry that his cow is dead
>man gives the farmer his gun as payment for the shot cow
Russian films are weird
Flickering Lights / Blinkende Lygter
>Netflix is available worldwide
Just because Netflix is available worldwide, doesn't mean the content on US Netflix is.
The main problem of why a lot of people still torrent remains - Distribution failure.
>do you want access to stuff free of charge or do you want to pay for it?
I pay for Netflix for my fiancée and I. Through work I have an Amazon Prime account that gives me all lot of movies as well (I haven't spent too much time browsing it though). Everything else I torrent.
Anything that isn't on Netflix I torrent. It's as simple as that. As shows and/or movies that I watched and enjoyed on Netflix are removed from the service, I add them to my library.
Not until I can play content with Iceweasel, without proprietary plugins.
Netflix used to use Silverlight.
I don't know if Netflix has gotten rid of Silverlight entirely, but at least a while back you could use it through Pipelight in Firefox to get Netflix working.
didn't you read how Netflix already swapped out silverlight for HTML5?
Yes. Netflix in the UK is shit. There's a grand selection of an amazing five films in total and very few tv series actually stay on it long enough for you to watch them all unless you happen to have nothing to do because you've already worked your way through their massive pile of films.
Basically read until the 2nd fullstop.
Yes, I know that HTML5 in general supports this. I'm saying that Netflix does not, regardless of HTML5.
Also, just tried in Chrome. Netflix still upscales from 720p in browsers, 1080p only available in the app version.
>inb4 "Sorry, this movie was not licensed for your region."
Fuck you and your license garbage, I ain't falling for your tricks again, I already got cucked by CR once so thanks but NO THANKS. Get cancer and Die.
>find out that Netflix is finally available in my country, free month etc
>immediately rush to check it out
>the selection is horrible apart from the couple good Netflix shows
>movies what I wouldn't ever willingly torrent
I pay for Spotify but probably won't subscribe to Netflix. It's way overhyped but I guess with American wages and American Netflix selection it ok.
It has a terrible user interface. It's like I'm navigating on a tablet. I just want it to look like a normal website. And the controls are shit too. You can't see how much minutes you've already watched, just how many minutes there is left. Going back and forwards isn't good either because it goes too far at about 20 seconds.
>Are you still going to torrent movies now that Netflix is available worldwide?
Netflix doesn't have everything I want to see, because of regional rights to watch stuff.
>inb4 just use unblock-us or another VPN
Netflix has made it pretty clear that they are considering to start banning users that do this.
I buy prepaid debit cards each month, using them to get a free trials for Netflix as well as two other similar services.
Then I use the money on the card to buy something else.
There's a fee for each card but I'm still getting Netflix + 2 other streaming subscriptions for half the price of only a Netflix subscription.
>obs screen record
Actually you can buy semi-legal chinese devices that take in HDMI input and save the video in an h264 file
They're kinda hard to find but definitely worth it if you want to save the stuff you watch
>not having a glorious media server, like Plex, Emby, Kodi, UMS, or other similar servers.
>not having all your media available to you 24/7
So far I have 149 Anime shows, complete and on-going, 330 Movies, 49+ TV Series, complete and on-going.
i have a job, so i can't do this 24/7, but there are always a couple of movies downloading. i'm having a hard time even finding more that are available in decent quality.
i regularly check rotten tomatoes to find new releases and download everything above 50%.
Netflix is a piece of fucking trash. It has jack shit. I can't even find some stuff that was released over a fucking year ago already.
I'm on my free month, it ends on the 15th but I'm definitely not renewing this POS.
Fuck paying a monthly subscription to watch Literally Who movies from two decades ago and indie shit.
I heard you can have these servers automatically download shit for you but how does that work?
I'm feeling like a dinossaur already when I hear about this stuff but it sounds so appealing.
It's called creating RSS feeds for your torrents and or private trackers, you setup rules of what you want downloaded, what quality and shit, once done downloaded, auto upload to server and it's own directory or move it to specific networkdrive / folder.
I never torrented movies in the first place because I'm not a thief.
>only 720p on Chrome and Firefox, and half the movies are 480p
into the trash it goes, thank god it had 1 moth free to try.
i dont have a smart Tv or PS4 or ShitboxOne, and you have watch Netflix on those if you want 1080p...meh
I watched a german science show and a german art show
>science show was great; they can easily explain stuff so even a dumbass like myself would understand
>art show had indian and sandnigger art installations; and at the end they focused on "oppressed gays, lesbian and trans people in Zambia"
It was on deutsche welle.
I don't remember the name, but there was a question of the week, and if you win, you get your question answered by a goofy-looking animated Einstein.
That was a tiny part of the show, though.
>To use this app on your PC, upgrade to Windows 10.
wut? did M$ buy Netflix or something?
When Netflix actually starts getting movies/tv that aren't complete shit with the exception of maybe 2 dozen. You have hundreds of absolute dog shit and then the 1% that's actually worth watching. Now that I think of it this is probably only the Canadian copyright laws.
I have an account, albeit a shitty Ausfag one. It was becoming too hard to keep up with what my waifu and my son wanted to watch. I still pirate, only less of the mainstream and/or kiddy crap.
Having quota not counted towards my monthly 300GB cap helped make the decision, yet I have since been upgraded to 1TB/month so other options have become available again.
>tfw need vpn/vps but not sure which aren't a huge honeypot like "privateinternetaccess"
rule of thumb, never EVER use a vpn/vps advertised on a pleb community like reddit or twitch or simmilar
If you're planning to torrent this is a solid bet. Since online.net is already full of seedboxes and such it's an obvious place to do it, and you're getting an actual server for the price of a VPS.
most of the big companies have a lot of people torrenting on their servers and they don't care.
feral is pretty good and they offer bitcoin payment if you want some more anonymity tho.
If you're willing to spend a little more than that you should learn a bit about what a seedbox is, private torrents, etc... Hang around /ptg/ and you can pick up lots of good ideas.
i'm willing to spend quite a bit to insulate myself against this risk, yes.
even getting a vps to torrent, paying with bitcoin, and then getting a SEPERATE vpn to connect to the VPS
the vps never has my info
the vpn never knows what's being transferred
it would be much harder to ascertain because you'd need the VPS_AND_ the VPN to rat you out
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OVH#Controversies read the part about wikileaks. It's easy to say you can't trust any company, but these companies are less likely to roll over for just anybody. They are the backbone of pretty much all torrent traffic.
If it's on Netflix, I watch it on Netflix, if it isn't, I torrent it. VPNs aren't really worth the money or hassle if you've got no use whatsoever for them other than bypassing shitty regional restrictions that we have to put up with because only corporations are allowed to enjoy the benefits of globalization.
'course, if you live in a country in which there's an actual risk of getting a C&D letter because your IP shows up on some torrent's tracker and the country's legal environment allows for that C&D to turn into an actual lawsuit, that's definitely a legitimate reason to pay for a VPN. Your mileage may vary.
All of this is not necessary. Just learn how to get into private trackers, use seedboxes, preferably in foreign countries, and don't get caught up in nonsense. If you and your friends start camming movies you're going to have a lot more heat on you than you could ever even dream of seeding 1000 blurays with seedboxes. Just use common sense and avoid public shit.
I'm more of a path if least resistance kind of guy when it comes to acquiring media.
If it's on Netflix, I'll watch it there.
Otherwise I torrent it.
Not on Netflix, and can't find a torrent? I'll buy it at this point.
>"Every relationship can be reduced to some dude paying favors to a girl and tolerating her being insufferable because if he does enough of that he's going to be rewarded with sex."
I really wonder how socially retarded someone has to be in order to actually believe this.
It's not always social retardation. Some people just have toxic attitudes and dump the edginess on like a stoner working the third shift at Burger King dumps salt on fries. You can find them on /pol/ and /r9k/ preaching mgtow bullshit.
Yeah. I was pretty hype when I saw this on my fb feed and Rushed to sign up but.. The selection of stuff where I am is pretty shit and even though I was on the HD trial the quality was shit. Didn't feel like it was going higher than 480p even though I know its not a connection probleem. I stream twitch and YouTube max quality no issues
Sure. Netflix has literally no movies, I have PTP account and the guy who invited me sent me a like a billion bonus points
I only use Netflix for extreme convenience and only because my GF lets me use her account
I haven't even tried getting into private trackers because my upstream is 0.4Mbit. Netflix is pretty convenient, although I'll still grab a (public) high quality torrent for content with huge production values.
I signed up and all they gave me was
>Please use these as your DNS servers:

What's the point of this when you have 184.108.40.206 220.127.116.11?
