>If the auto maker is found guilty, the Justice Department wants Volkswagen to pay as much as $37,500 for every vehicle that violated the law. That means Volkswagen could have to pay out more than $90 billion, far greater than initial estimates of $18 billion in penalties.

So this automated driving is really gonna be a thing huh?
Everything presented today was tied to it. On top of that, everyone has almost functional working models. Our kids aren't gonna be driving, they're gonna be driven by these I'm willing to bet.
When you think about it, self driving cars are probably the biggest "duh" in the current decade.
We've had the technology to do it for some time but had to wait until someone came up with the idea. People were too hung up on flying cars to think about cars that drove themselves.
All it takes is 1 fatal self-driving car incident for the media to demonize self-driving cars and set them back many years years while insurance companies try to jack up your premiums and lawmakers try to pass kneejerk legislation on how autonomous the car is allowed to be.
Also, if an autonomous car crashes, who's fault is it?
i would guess noone , it was a malfunction and you prob signed somewhere that the manufacturer isnt responsible for any damage caused by the equipment. Treat it just like any other piece of tech that you can get hurt with.
