Basically official at this point.
Are you excited for the thinner iPhone 7 now that it won't come with that bulging 3.5mm jack?
Like we need more reasons to bitch at Apple.
Seriously though, that's just retarded, decent bluetooth headsets go up to hundreds of $/€, while you can get a decent wired one for like 50.
Great prediction anon!
I wonder if they are going to include an adapter at least. If that's true.
>using wired headphones in 2016
stick to your shitty android device with expandable storage, removable battery, and whatever other bullshit you all collectively peddle against the iPhone
the problem with you guys is you're completely unable to see even 6 months into the future. you're the same people who'd complain that the 90's iPhone no longer has a fucking tape deck.
>stick to your shitty android device with expandable storage
Android is already following suit, >>52247352
Huewei says their next phone will have no headphone jack and use USB C headphones.
Ok /g/ let's be serious for a moment. This will be accepted up as a revolution by the crowd because "someone has to do it and apple is a revolutionary company that cares about their customers".
We can hate all we want, in the end it'll succeed and more manufacturers will follow.
>yfw they put it sideways in order to make more space for the battery and remove the protruding camera in one go
We'll all have to either use dumb as fuck adapters like in 2005 or buy shitty wireless headsets or buy headphones specifically designed for usb type C use and lose the ability to use it with other audio hardware
OH NO, I'LL NEED A BLUETOOTH ADAPTER!!!111!!
Keep crying, poorfags.
Waterproofing ports is fucking easy, many industries do that for decades in worse environments than any phone will ever be.
Waterproofing a mic and speakers without making their audio/recording quality absolutely shit is the fucking hard part.
though I still think this is fucking retarded
>looking to poor people for modern standards of living
these people are still riding fucking buses. of course they still use headphones, which by the way, are problem connected to iPods and Zunes.
>DO YOU EVEN FUCKING USE HEADPHONES WITH YOUR SMARTPHONE????
I'm using them right now, I use them every day. All of the time, wherever I go.
>LITERALLY NEVER SEE ANYONE USING THEIR FUCKING HEADPHONES IN PUBLIC
What do you live in the middle of the fucking ocean?
Yes, everyone uses them because they don't want to flood the fucking place with 20 smartphones playing different media.
Wireless are alright, but they run out of juice by the end of a workday.
>need independent battery
>pairing is a flaky pain in the ass
3.5mm is a perfect solution and phones don't need to be thinner. This is a freakin genious plan by Apple to lock customers out of open standards and sell more overpriced iShit under the guise of being pro-consumer.
if you haven't established ground rules with your chauffeur that you two aren't going to chit chat about shit, then you're a retarded faggot.
or you're using Lyft. the tattooed faggot fistbumping you and telling you about his band is not a "chauffeur".
so in response to your desire that you don't have to deal with people, you've gone and paid someone to always be in the car with you.
and when you were hiring, you didn't just casually drop in "and i'm not looking for conversation" or something to make clear to the prospective driver what the relationship is.
it sounds more like your mommy just wants to talk to you, kiddo. give her a nod or something. she pays therapists so much to help you deal with autism, and it'd mean a lot to her if she saw something resembling progress.
>"huh just use your phone to listen to music"
>"huh no one uses their phone to listen to music"
Also , this means no listening to music while your phone is charging
>is the microUSB or /whatever shit apple uses/ ok?
Hell no. Both the Apple Lightning cable and the micro USB cable are designed to break before the port does in order to save the port from muppets yanking on cables. This is five for a $5 charging cable but unacceptable for headphones, where I'll be spending at least $40 for usable earbuds.
>have to buy expensive sound devices with their own DAC
>decreased overall compatibility
>It's either no charging while listening or the device is another battery you have to worry about
>having the latter will increase the cost further
I don't really see the point in this other than thinning out both your phone and your wallet
I read somewhere once that all phones have to use an universal charging port in Europe.
Apple was buttmad about this but they're forced to do it. I think that will change soon too.
I wonder how they're going to change the port into a micro USB and then put an headphone extension jack in that.
This is fucking brilliant.
The only thing holding back phones being even thinner is that stupid fucking headphone jack.
By making a lightning headphone socket not only will sound be much higher quality, it will also allow phones to reach new levels of thinness.
Fucking genius. iPhone 7 confirmed GoaT.
Literally walk out in public where there are large people and WITH THE BASIC POWER OF OBSERVATION you will surely find people using headphones with their smartphone to listen to whatever the fuck.
>green-text bubble thinks he deserves a proper argument
Go be poor somewhere else. You know whichever shitty company made your phone will copy this and lose their headphone jack eventually.
I think this is all stupid, iPhone has such shit battery because of muh thiness that the phone is going to be thick anyways (battery pack) Why can't they make normal phones that normal humans could hold properly
yeah but still I don't see the appeal in doing this.
but r/apple is already all over it. Some guys are against it but the majority seems to be in favour of that.
I don't understand this desu.
Wouldn't it be great if phones could fold so that they fit in smaller pockets. I wonder if motorolla ever made anything like that and put a good fucking mic/speaker on it so that it could make good phone calls.
Am I the only person left in the world who cares about how good a phone is at making phone calls.
>Still use a moto razr, never gonna change
It's better than 3/4 of android phones desu though, and the 6s+ is in the 99th percentile fur sure.
For example, it has much better battery life than the Moto x, and that gets shilled on here often despite not having a removable battery or SD card slot.
You guys do realize that there will be aftermarket converters for this right? Like $3 converters. It's really not a big deal; stop complaining.
You won't need to have bluetooth and older headphones will still work. You'll just had a little attachment that sits between your headphone cord and the iPhone.
But that's the thing, the whole point of a phone is portability and adding an extra thing I have to carry around on top of my phone and earbuds is just annoying. Also, that little converter is not going to be $3, because it'll have to have a dac in in that understands pcm
Wireless charging is slower than charging through your computers USB and bluetooth requires more battery from the phone and now you have to charge your headphones too. If the phone is thinner then the batter will be even shittier
>people also complained when Apple removed the optical disk drive
The difference is that when that happened most people didn't use the CD drive already. The headphone jack is still ubiquitous as fuck.
You guys just don't understand. Most Apple fanboys wear women's jeans. They don't have pockets to hold phones of any measurable thickness and are humiliated by having to go around with a man purse.
Why not just 2.5m?
You think people who buy APPLE products care about buying something decent... They will buy either overprice apple headphones (beats) or super cheap ones and not notice or care (when listening to pop mp3s recorded at 128kbps)
True dat, my battery is already shit without playing music all day with it, get a cheap clip or some BS mp3 player thats dedicated.
>Thinking Bluetooth will be spared
>Not realizing Apple will launch iPhone 7 with the iBeats and the iWire wireless transmission standard.
It would most likely be wifi compatible headphones with airplay, or some kind of localized airplay.
But you can get the airplay specification openly, its not that hard to create airplay appliances.
So basically this on a mobile phone? Really fucking great
>Apple remove the headphone jack in the iPhone 7
>Fanboys rave about the innovation and how they didn't really need it anyway
>Apple brings back the headphone jack in the 7s but it doesn't do stereo
>Fanboys rave about how far Apple are ahead of Android devices
>iPhone 8 finally has a stereo jack
>Fanboys rave about how this changes everything, again
Tim Cook is so fucking bad. I don't like Apple products at all, but I have to give it to Steve, he basically launched the modern smartphone. I can't imagine what he'd think about Apple now, but I imagine it wouldn't be good.
Optical media was on its way out anyway,Headphones and stereo's are not
Your comparison is fucking stupid
That's not a proprietary interface, Apple couldn't charge manufacturers to use it. Clearly, the much better option is something that requires a chip in the cable so it's thicker (ironically) and means that you'll have to pay $50 minimum for an adapter.
>iPhone 7 removes headphone jack
>iPhone 8 removes lightning port (wireless charging, bitches)
>iPhone 9 removes all remaining buttons
>iPhone 10 is just a screen, no bezel, no buttons, no ports
>not having a phone with balanced XLR ports
>implying you can relax on public transportation
>implying you won't be shanked to death by some retarded ghetto nigger for so much as existing in the same place as them
>implying you don't need to have your hands in your pockets at all times so niggers can't steal your wallet or your phone or any of your shit
>implying niggers aren't literally animals that are out to harm everyone
this whole thread is just fucking terrible
how is it even possible to have 200 replies about something to unimportant?
(unless you're in the business of iphone peripherals. no faggot you're not.)
Are you serious, youngling? When the MBA was first introduced people were freaking out how to install software without a DVD drive. It was unthinkable, same as removing the headphone jack on a phone now.
>When the MBA was first introduced people were freaking out how to install software without a DVD drive. It was unthinkable
No, that wasn't the case at all.
Kill yourself you retarded faggot.
>and It will look something like this
Nigger this board is about bitching about consumer electronics, epic mac hate threads and autistic anime shitposting
No smartphone today has an acceptable battery life.
Google did an decent effort in their newest Android to optimize the usage of the power, but the manufacturers and retarded customers crusade against smartphones who actually got some heft to itself is fucking us all over when it comes to battery life.
>want to listen to music
>have to put adapter into lightning port
>low battery but cant charge
>got to buy apple dock that has 3.5mm port
>got to spend 500$ for space to put music on phone
>dock needs to be flipped upside down to plug in
>cant charge ipencil either
>got to get apple charger case for ipencil
YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST! APPLE HAS JUST INVENTED WIRELESS HEADSETS THAT CONNECT VIA BLUETOOTH. WINDOWS AND ANDROID BTFO!
ARE YOU A PLEB?
THERE IS NO EXCUSE NOT TO SAVE YOUR GOOD BOY POINTS TO BUY THE APPLE EAR™
>now you just need a macbook air with a retarded dongle holding over 9000 cables and power to complete the circle.
>can't want to have all my shit accidentally disconnect all at fucking once
The fuck are you talking about?
>galaxys s5 5 sport
regular use on a full charge gets me about 2 days
>if I break it down to just use as a phone, memopad, and light internet browser on ultra saving I get like a week without plugging the fucking thing in again.
>If I switch it to ultra at 2% it will last about 5-6 hours
>no battery pack, just a proper internal battery.
GS5 shits all over your apple phones, go ahead and by brand and get reemed all you want, but remember that you're Only buying brand, one that 50-60% of people hate at that.
this is actually a good idea from Apple from a technical standpoint you utter retards. now the techilliterate ishills will be forced to use a dac which will be at a way bigger size than what you could ever fit in a phone. dac quality is essentially what's lacklustre about phone quality right now. I think this is a change for the better. aside from the fact that it's pretty unpractical to ALWAYS carry one around.
they'll also break every few months so apple can kike more shekels out of the isheep for a mediocre $50 dac ever so often
>now people will thinks you as a tech hispter because you used wired earphone in public to listen music from your phone or clip.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OH MY HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OH GOD HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
moto g 2013 here, really sturdy, dropped it numerous of times in ways it shouldn't have survived but except from some scuff marks and a SLIGHT flex from the body in the upper right corner. this includes it slipping out of my pocket while I was cycling 15kmh
the dac is fucking horrible though and so are the speakers. no one cares about those anyway, but this phone's just so robust I don't really want to get another
iPhone have shit dacs. They have done since the iPhone 3G. In general all phones have done for a long while.
Most good phones used to have wolfson dacs. Which are pretty good. Now they use shit.
This is why people love pre 5.5g iPods, because of wolfson.
yes, but note that they would remove the dac and put it external. if it's already good there indeed isn't really a point unless they change the converter into a portable amp but that'll 1. turn out to be shit because apple 2. be too bulky
uh yeah this decision is retarded. it's step fucking two after the 1port retard macbook. isheep better get ready to buy those lightning hubs huh :^)
useing aux in my car is fast convient and fun for my passengers
useing Bluetooth takes time effort and kills battery faster also only one phone can be connected at a time
normies won't want to buy a lighting to 3.5 Jack kr even know how to use them
dac quality can be measured very easily, so this is not something that is up to debate. go read some gsmarena reviews.
iphones are very good in this regard. not the very best, but up there.
In other news, we may have our first preview of the iPhone 6C. If this is real, I'm not going to buy. Shitty iPod colours, the only ones that look good are the blue and black.
am >>52254151 a source? just curious because gsmarena has always reported very good audio quality (specwise) regarding things that the dac has big influence on and I generally trust gsmarena
>most probably still have lightning port
tfw no inductive charging, syncing (inb4 muh cloud) etc.
>If this successfully leads to a smaller input jack then heck, well done.
Smaller input jacks exist. The issue is that smaller than 3.5mm has a tendency to snap.
3.5mm is ubiquitous. It's a standard. There's no reason you'd need to go so thin with a device where 3.5mm becomes a limitation. If you're trying to replace 3.5mm, it needs to be with a different wired solution that does it better.
>Make phones even thinner
>Battery life actually getting worse with each new phone
Quite sad how dumb these engineers are. Does anyone even want thinner phones then the ones we already have?
The iPhone 1 has a wolfson, that's when they actually cares about it being a music play. When it actually used to be a iPod and phone.
Just read up on wolfson dacs. They are miles above the shit people shove in phones now.
I am not 100% sure but I 'think' the S6 has a wolfson dac. And if it does, I don't know if it's as good as the old ones.
>that's when they actually cares about it being a music play
I still remember that Steve Jobs felt artists deserved no money from him selling their music on iTunes and that they should just thank him for the exposure.
>Quite sad how dumb these engineers are. Does anyone even want thinner phones then the ones we already have?
it's not the poor engineers, it's the sales and marketing teams cracking the whips, and the dumb consumers who are disproportionately impressed by thin phones.
thin phones actually are more comfortable to carry and more aesthetically pleasing to hold, but the average person doesn't think about the battery life tradeoff while holding one in the store.
the big problem is that Android is still a huge energy pig and that Apple wants to accentuate trivial advantages their engineering team can achieve (ok battery in thinnest possible case) over the Android vendors who are forced to chase after them to seem not as shit.
also, manufacturers wants your battery life to be shit in ~2 years so they can get another reason for people to upgrade.
>show me one pair of bluetooth headphones that last longer than 6 hours on a single charge
Bluedio H+s will go 40 active, 700 idle by some accounts. But they're also chinky as hell and give Bluetooth quality sound.
Finally someone that knows the glorious Wolfson DACs in phones, the international galaxy s3 with the Wolfson DAC and Android Revolution 17 sounded godly.
Now I'm using an AT&T version and it's completely garbage in comparison.
Everybody I see ends up putting their phone in a fat case anyway. Nobody wants to hold a 7 inch sheet of glass.
This is purely apple's shit. This is what they do. Deprecating useful technology for questionable reasons under the guise of being "foward thinking" is a method that gets them buzz in the media, even if it annoys consumers. It's not like people who buy iphones are going to switch to android anyway.
Yes, Apple should stick to the tried and true Android strategy of selling octocore CPUs and >500dpi displays, neither of which enhance the user experience.
Bigger numbers are so obviously more important than ease of use and predictability.
>3.5 mm jack removed for phone to be thinner
>soon back camera would be removed to make phone thinner
Buy this camera add-on in order to have a back camera!
Apple makes nearly all of its decisions better than the android vendors, but I would still much rather have an iPhone 6s with a 4000+ mAh battery even if it was 10 mm thick instead of 7.
>Soon battery will be removed to make the phone thinner
Weight needs to be considered too. It's already pretty weighty with the aluminium chassis.
Slap a massive battery in there, you're looking at a fucking lump of lead.
However, I do agree. I can't say phone weight has ever bothered me, but I know it will bother some.
just connect the iPh7 to your portable headphone amp/DAC and the amp to the earbuds
I'm waiting till people will be sticking this shit on their phones.
Not him but I've had very varied experiences with Bluetooth. My car stereo works flawlessly with my galaxy s6 and lumia 930 but skips like a dirty CD with my friend's iPhone 6. The Lumia is notoriously picky as to what it'll play music on instead of just recognising it as a headset.
