K9 mail is a great mail client and I use my ISP mail servers with my own domain
Newpipe is actually a pretty good YouTube app

I don't need Youtube, I don't need apps that use Google Play Services (RIP Snapchat), I can always install equivalent software with F-Droid and/or Aptoide.

I haven't found a replacement yet but I grab files out with mpv or youtube-dl, or use a browser not signed in to the site.

I don't check email on my phone, ever. For Youtube I use NewPipe.

No longer using gapps has been a true revelation for me.

OGYoutube app will run without gapps except u can't sign in. Just use stock email app if you ur ROM has one cm12.1 email app in my case

I managed to get google maps working on my friends phone (no gapps) by just installing the apk and Maps Api + µg UnifiedNlp.
