How do we help Gabe get his shit together and make Linux / SteamOS good gaming platform?
In future, when mobile pushes desktop to the edge of relevance, living room will be important foothold.

I still don't understand the purpose of steamOS
Windows has and probably always will work better for video games
The controller's actually pretty neat though, so they should have just stuck to that and the VR stuff

>I still don't understand the purpose of steamOS
Free OS that isn't subject to Microsoft bullshit. Same reason Sony uses BSD for their PS4.

It's to "living room computers" (read: manufactured or DIY consoles) what Android is to mobile phones.
OEM doesn't have to put it's own OS together because it's freely available and Valve gets revenue from integrated store.

>How do we help Gabe
Why would /g/ help the demon of DRM?
>>52230862
Yes, let us help a corporation cement it's monopoly over PC gaming

>implying there are better alternatives that could use help
>>52230971
>monopoly

Would you rather see some other distribution service for games on Linux?
Is there any alternative to Steam that has only open source games?

Gog has drm free games, massive Linux support, and a Linux launcher coming this year

ps4 runs linux
chromecast runs android (linux)
many smart tvs run android or some form of linux
linux desktop in living room is already irrelevant
>>52231359
>ps4 runs linux
Sadly no, it runs something based on NetBSD
>chromecast runs android (linux)
>many smart tvs run android or some form of True. Good for all 14 people that use those.
>linux desktop in living room is already irrelevant
having desktop OS in living room would be quite impractical.
Media center / console on the other hand is still quite relevant.
>>52231547
>Media center / console
What is any modern console
what are smart tvs with apps like netflix, plex, DLNA video and photo, + etc...
What are chromecast, apple tv, roku, fire tv, and generic chinksticks
The market is already saturated with media center devices. There is literally no hope.
You can start out by helping making the free drivers better.

Any store that doesn't have DRM garbage like Steam.
GoG is the best known example right now, but it can be anything, I really don't care. When you don't force people into your own walled garden you allow more competition.

Reminder most steamfags dont buy $10000 steam machines, because they prefer $400 Intel HD Laptops for gaming
