>>46155655 the phone is useless without the app store, it isn't even a smartphone it's an application interface, every year they offer minor differences and clam it's the best ever for marketing hype and people buy them annually when they can get the same features if they just wait for the OS update, have have no special features, sony, HTC, and oppo have all taken the build quality standpoint which used to be a key selling point for the iphone so other than liking iOS the iphone is no competition for all the other devices for sale.
>>46155655 >best camera >slow motion >panoramas that aren't shit >app store 1000x better than google play >the porn you look up on your computer doesn't come up in your phones search history >no lag >charges extremely fast
Personally, for me it is more the lack of improving the OS since iOS 5 and the glitches that come with updates.
Seriously, years ago iPhone was fine. Hell, I actually PREFERRED iOS to Android years ago because of the app selection and crap specs Android phone had years ago that caused it to slow down or run out of memory easily. I still hold the iPhone 4 in high regard for the decent screen and apps it had at the time, and how easy it was to jailbreak.
Now? Not so much. I actually upgraded from a iPhone 5 to a Note 4 because I was tired of the glitches iOS 8 brought and the lack of removable storage/not being able to upgrade.
I have used Android since 1.5 and iOS since 3.0 and while Android was not too great until 4.0, it has come a loooong way and has caught up in both phone design and software. While it is nice that Apple is finally offering bigger phones, it still lacks a bunch of features Android has and charges a premium when it should not (That, and 32GB should be the base on all its devices, not 16GB).
I had an iPad and overall I didn't like it. Apps have their own secluded space, so you can't drop a bunch of video or music files into a single directory and access it in multiple apps. There's very little freedom to do much of anything. Third party browsers will always suck on iOS because Apple's policy is to force everyone to use WebKit.
iOS looks nice, it runs smoothly, the app selection is better, and it's friendlier to non-tech people. Lollipop solves nearly every issue with stability, smoothness, etc, so the gap is pretty small now. In the end, I gave the iPad to my gf, got a Galaxy Tab Pro, and rooted it.
>>46156326 Used to not be that way. App Store used to have the advantage years ago, but ever since the horrid redesign and stricter policies on what can go up, it has been harder to find anything.
Back during the Android 2.0 days? App Store was better. More main stream apps then Android, and just better quality all around on the iOS side. Now? They are about even on quality and the Play Store is easier to navigate.
>>46155921 >It's locked down On the other hand, you don't have to sideload some sketchy shit to make it not suck >Battery life is shit Objectively false >No file browsers For what? You can make locations in dropbox or icloud if you want to mess with files. >No customization Sure there is, but it doesn't really need the kind of "customization" you're talking about. >Doesn't play videos or music of all formats This is valid. Of course, I just use subsonic so all my flacs get transcoded and streamed to my phone just fine. >Cannot torrent What are you going to torrent into your 32GB of space, anon? >You have to jailbreak to do anything Just no. >iTunes I don't think you need to use it at all anymore. I use it to back the phone up before an upgrade, but you can do everything purely OTA these days.
As far as money goes, most high-end phones in the US are $200/base model with 2 year contract, which is a big reason they're so much more popular here.
>>46156459 > objectively false You don't own an iPhone do you, I have friends who do and their batteries barely last a day. > For what? You can make locations in dropbox or icloud if you want to mess with files. More features > Sure there is, but it doesn't really need the kind of "customization" you're talking about. changing the wallpaper isn't customization. > This is valid. Of course, I just use subsonic so all my flacs get transcoded and streamed to my phone just fine. Enough thing is the storage, I could buy a brand new phone and a 128gb SD Card for less than what it would cost to get a iPhone 6. > What are you going to torrent into your 32GB of space, anon? Music, Videos, Films? > You have to jailbreak to do anything Just yes.
>>46156414 I am just talking about the quality of the apps in general. I remember times when the Android apps were pretty badly behind their iOS counterparts and operated like shit/crash all the time.
Now? Many times they seem almost identical between devices and operate much smoother (And I have gotten crashes on both sides, which I did not with iOS years ago). I will agree that Play Store offers a better variety of apps and customization then iOS currently does.
>>46156513 >You don't own an iPhone do you, I have friends who do and their batteries barely last a day. The 5/5S batteries were on the weak side (though mine can make it through the day fine as long as I'm not watching videos all the time) but the 6 is strong and the 6+ is very strong, according to all the tests I've seen. >More features "bloat" >changing the wallpaper isn't customization. Better no options with good results than a grand buffet of shit. >Enough thing is the storage, I could buy a brand new phone and a 128gb SD Card for less than what it would cost to get a iPhone 6. Ok? >Music, Videos, Films? . Just seems really awkward to do on a phone. I barely watch video on it, and music is a streaming thing these days. >> You have to jailbreak to do anything >Just yes. Really really false. If you stop trying to tweak everything to death you might find you enjoy the device more, ironically.
>>46156527 >/g/ hates iPhones because of how locked down they are. No themes. Just the same boring shit. Shouldn't your content/media be what's interesting, not the OS? An OS is there simply as a platform for applications to run on, it's not supposed to be a form of entertainment in and of itself
>>46156552 Newtons were awesome, it's too bad they never caught on. Instead we had to live with shit like Windows Mobile for a decade before mobile OSes became decent again.
>>46155921 >It's locked down Facts: A typical iPhone out of the box, is much *less* locked down than a typical Android, because of carrier restrictions/crapware and manufacture bloat/malware. A jailbroken iPhone is as "unlocked" an any rooted Android, except some Samsungs that cannot be reverted to stock and reset the counter (all iPhones can be reverted to stock and there's no counter).
>Battery life is shit It depends. iPhones easily outperform Androids with the same dimensions. How couldn't they, seeing they have a 1-gen ahead processor that affords them to use less cores and lower frequencies and still outperform qualcomms. Add to that the very efficient OS and the hardware+software optimization.
>No customization The opposite. You seem to be confusing customization with ricing your desktop/homescreen. In phones, you can can have as many functions, as your apps allow you. You can accomplish as many tasks as there are apps for. In phones, customization is app selection and quality. In that regard, iOS has a clear advantage, seeing most professional and productivity apps are written first (or exclusively) for it. Same for games.
>Doesn't play videos or music of all formats Provably false. There's an app for any filetype you can think of.
You're too emotional, yet you lack first hand experience with the platform, to see things clearly.
Eh I thought about getting a 5s a couple weeks ago but I wouldn't be able to block ads system wide unless some skiddie found an exploit to jailbreak. Not only that but physical buttons break. My ipod touch home button broke and it was unusable until I could activate the accessibility option which made on screen button. Hell for awhile I was jailbroken on ios 4 and had the iPad gestures to use but 5.0 got rid of that.
>>46156645 >The 5/5S batteries were on the weak side (though mine can make it through the day fine as long as I'm not watching videos all the time) but the 6 is strong and the 6+ is very strong, according to all the tests I've seen.
I went from a galaxy s4 to an iphone 5s
Personally I much prefer the iphone, even though the battery is kinda meh. I'm definitely waiting for the 7, shits gonna be amazing
>>46156699 >You seem to be confusing customization with ricing your desktop/homescreen. >In phones, you can can have as many functions, as your apps allow you. You can accomplish as many tasks as there are apps for. >In phones, customization is app selection and quality. holy fuck this
>>46156846 >fuck you, if I want my phone to do something I'll install a tweak for it not try to adjust to the phone You're going to have to learn the system one way or another. And if you try to tweak it you'll have to learn to accept that your tweaks don't work perfectly, or you'll be tweaking forever. So you end up at the same place with more effort wasted.
>>46156790 >You are advocating the virtual equivalent of tossing all your shit into one large pile instead of neatly organizing it No. The library format is the neat organization.
You have a movie library, a photo library, a texts/dosuments library, etc. .
You can have any hierarchy, favorites, sorting options, etc. in each library.
Then, a text editor has automatic access to the text library. A photo editor has automatic access to the photo library. A movie player to the movie library, etc. .
Of what use is trying to open a file with an app that doesn't support it? Of what use is being flooded with all the files (even the ones that aren't compatible with the app), when I click the "open" dialog in an app?
>>46156699 >It's locked down >Facts: A typical iPhone out of the box, is much *less* locked down than a typical Android, because of carrier restrictions/crapware and manufacture bloat/malware. Right, go put that TMo sim card into an AT&T iPhone and come back once you're done. >A jailbroken iPhone is as "unlocked" an any rooted Android, except some Samsungs that cannot be reverted to stock and reset the counter (all iPhones can be reverted to stock and there's no counter). Android vs iPhones != Samsung vs iPhones. Educate yourself. >Battery life is shit >It depends. >iPhones easily outperform Androids with the same dimensions. >How couldn't they, seeing they have a 1-gen ahead processor that affords them to use less cores and lower frequencies and still outperform qualcomms. Add to that the very efficient OS and the hardware+software optimization. Your comparison is akin to comparing 1 shiny red apple, and 9 random green apples, all from different places. Android has greater capability for enhanced battery life. You could disable shit you never knew existed to save your juice. >No customization >The opposite. >You seem to be confusing customization with ricing your desktop/homescreen. >In phones, you can can have as many functions, as your apps allow you. You can accomplish as many tasks as there are apps for. >In phones, customization is app selection and quality. >customization is app selection and quality alright thank you for your time sheeple. NEXTT
>>46156927 >Android has greater capability for enhanced battery life. But it makes no sense to compare bigger, thicker devices.
A mophie battery case on an iPhone 6 is the same or thinner than a good deal of Android devices. Does that mean the iPhone has a "greater capability for enhanced battery life". Actually, check (google) the batteries Apple is using. They're the most advanced in the market (energy density and longevity), and they actually build them themselves, as no company could provide them.
>>46156091 you do realize that there are phones/roms out there entirely dedicated to get away from google services, and the android operating system can act completely independent from such services, do some fucking research kid, dont shitpost
I've played with android phones for a month before I got my iPhone. I'm so glad I didnt listen to all these haters talking about better specs and more customization which I love to do but shit you know what the goddam iPhone is sexy and yes simple. It's not perfect but I'm far more satisfied being taken for my money than be stuck with android phone. Everyday I love my phone even more.
The iPhone is designed for a crowd who appreciates quality, simplicity, ease of use, and an overall cohesive experience of hardware and software. People with jobs, friends, meaningful relationships and fulfilling lives use iPhones
Android is catered to the kind of person who likes wasting time ricing their cell phone and arguing over which plastic Chinese piece of shit has the best specs
Android users on /g/ are generally losers or neets. Anyone with a successful life wouldn't waste their time torrenting on their cell phone or spending countless hours putting custom roms on their cell phone, or making custom anime themed home screens in UCCW.
>>46155655 1) itunes makes it a pain in the ass to put your shit on it 2) fucking jews still haven't included a memory card slot and worse yet rather then add one like literally every other company they create the icloud to jew even more
>>46156214 >Third party browsers will always suck on iOS because Apple's policy is to force everyone to use WebKit. There's actually some solid reasoning behind this.
Web rendering engines are by far one of the largest vectors of malware on any operating system. By mandating the use of webkit over any other engine, they've reduced one pool of vectors down to an area that they have control over. This is actually one of the main reasons that iOS malware is so rare in the wild.
>>46159509 >>46159615 >>People with jobs, friends, meaningful relationships and fulfilling lives use iPhones >>muh elitism Look, look at this faggot and laugh do you define the person base on their selection on device?

>>46160021 You were saying Samsung paid money to have their product featured in a viral marketing scheme. They paid to have their product featured, so it's product placement, which apple is notoriously good at. You tried to play the product placement as a negative, which would be hypocritical.
>>46160068 You might want to re-read what I've actually said. You're viewing it as simple product placement and nothing more. Then again, actually viewing the issue with any sort of depth would destroy the black and white viewpoints you have.
>>46160103 There are a few scenes in his bar and he was playing pool and the light had the Rockstar logo.

>>46160142 Your arrogance regarding what other people say leads them to get fed up with even trying as nothing gets through to you. Of course since this is how you behave you will continue to think that other people are the problem as you fail to see that you are the creating the pattern.
>>46156699 >In phones, you can can have as many functions, as your apps allow you. You can accomplish as many tasks as there are apps for. That's what you iphone idiots actually think. >Needing an app for basic shit that the os should be able to do already >Good Pick one.
>>46159509 >They're designed for different audiences Android is designed for techies that need to get stuff done with their phone. IPhone is designed for people who like to stuff exotic things into their arsehole.

>>No Lag >Nexus 6 doesn't lag. While iOS lags like a fucker on my iPhone 4S. My Note 4 lags from just about anything even though I have debloated it. I can not comprehend, how an OS can be as laggy as Android. How can a web browser even lag on a flagship cpu?
>>Charges extremely fast >With Turbo Charger, my phone can be 100% in 15 minutes. WREKD! Can't say anything about that. Charging speed has never been an issue for me.
>I don't hate iPhones because they are mainstream. It's because they are horrible phones and stealing people of their money. You get what you pay for. Sadly there are no alternatives to IOS if you want a lag free OS.
>>46163403 But you see, that's just the problem. Fandroids so often see things like ricability as a "need" when in reality it's very much a "want". Nobody actually *needs* to be able to theme their launcher much in the same way that nobody needs shoes that glow different colors depending on the wearer's body temperature. It's interesting, but at the end of the day superfluous to the core functionality of the device.
If you *want* to be able to rice your phone, that's fine and wonderful, but present your desire as a want instead of a need.
>>46155655 I've had 3 iPhones, and I've just swapped over to android. Here's why: 1. I don't want to use iTunes, and you can't add anything to an iPhone without that piece of satanism. 2. I don't agree with apple's DRM policy. If I buy a movie, I want to be able to play it on all of my devices, not just the apple ones. 3. I don't want my phone to start magically slowing down just before my contract is due for renewal. 4. I want to be able to add whatever program I like without invalidating the warranty. 5. They are both Satan in my book, but I trust Google marginally more than Apple. 6. I want to use Linux as my main OS. 7. I don't want to contribute to the sh!t conditions that Foxconn employees work under. 8. The amazing appearing U2 album really freaked me out. They crossed a line as far as I'm concerned. I haven't even noticed that iphones were becoming mainstream again.
I prefer android over iOS. I don't hate iPhones but I am not going to buy one regardless of their new features or whatever meaningless bullshit apple tries to sell. I just want something that is easy to use, works and let me set it up so don't have to look for a certain app or a feature. hw buttons is my main reason to stick with android.

>>46165226 >2. I don't agree with apple's DRM policy. If I buy a movie, I want to be able to play it on all of my devices, not just the apple ones. Then don't buy it from iTunes store? iTunes store is an extra, that doesn't even exist elsewhere.
>3. I don't want my phone to start magically slowing down just before my contract is due for renewal. iPhones have the fastest updates and the longest support, because of hardware+ software optimization, and because Jobs told the carriers to fuck off.
>4. I want to be able to add whatever program I like without invalidating the warranty. There's no way to void the warranty in iOS, using software alone. Ironically, some Androids on the other hand have counters, so you can't root them without voiding the warranty.
>5. I trust Google marginally more than Apple. That's totally misguided and dangerous. Google makes its product free and makes money through ads, by selling the user to advertisers. Apple makes money through hardware, and sees privacy as a competitive advantage to sell said hardware to consumers. Stuff like no-track option, popup blocking, etc., debuted on iOS.
>6. I want to use Linux as my main OS. I prefer a polished Unix with extensive pro software support.
>7. I don't want to contribute to the sh!t conditions that Foxconn employees work under. Then don't buy anything. Apple's Foxconn workers are some of the best paid, according to reports. Also, only Apple checks the working conditions and imposes sanctions to the manufacturer, if it finds the working conditions are bad. True, capitalism is pure exploitation, but other companies couldn't care less.
>>46165288 Who mentioned custom ROMs? I have 2 rooted android devices (Tablet & Phone) both running stock ROMs. It's neat option to have as opposed to not haing it at all [cough iOS cough]. As for adblock it's not all that difficult to set up: Get the apk, install, open, press the button and that's it.
>>46165396 >That's totally misguided and dangerous. >Google makes its product free and makes money through ads, by selling the user to advertisers. >Apple makes money through hardware, and sees privacy as a competitive advantage to sell said hardware to consumers. >Stuff like no-track option, popup blocking, etc., debuted on iOS. This. I still use google stuff in addition to apple stuff, but anybody who doesn't see that google makes its users its product is blind and/or deluded. IMO only MS is less trustworthy than Google.
I'm through with apple. End of. Their £2k iMacs don't even ship with optical drives any more. You're being ring fenced into their revenue stream more and more tightly with every release. I'm bailing out of the walled garden.
>>46165457 If you've jailbroken an iPhone, it's perfectly possible to run a modified version of iOS, or if you can somehow obtain drivers, install an entirely different OS. It's just that there's not much reason to do so, because as of iOS 7 and 8 most of the things people previously jailbroke for are built in and jailbreaking covers that tiny handful of other things that people may want.
>>46165494 Optical discs are the new floppies. With the advent of high-speed internet connections, there's little need for CDs and DVDs for software distribution and even DL DVDs are a poor option for backup when you can buy a 500GB - 2TB portable HD that holds hundreds of times more information in a fraction of the space. This will be even more true when we have cheap 250GB and 512GB SD cards in a couple of years.
BDs/DL BDs are passable I guess, but very few computers are equipped with BD drives and the discs are expensive.
TLDR optical is old and busted, stop being a luddite.
>>46156081 I'm going to reply to this as someone who uses android, but isn't butthurt as fuck over the iPhone
>best camera One of the best. >slow motion I wish I had that feature honestly. I don't care about it being a "gimmick", it's a gimmick I'd use. >panoramas that aren't shit Google's camera app takes great panoramas and photospheres are awesome too. This point is bs. >app store 1000x better than google play It is better but I've never really wanted an app that wasn't available on android. >the porn you look up on your computer doesn't come up in your phones search history I've never had this problem. You can delete your search history if you do. >no lag I have no lag on my original Moto X >charges extremely fast Moto X charges really fast and gets better battery life than most iPhones, although I'm almost never in a situation where I need to charge it fast because the battery easily lasts me all day.
The people on /g/ that think iPhones are totally shit are in denial. They have some drawbacks, but are really good overall.
