One of the greatest laptops of all time to run one of the greatest operating systems of all time
Posting from A T61 with a fresh Ubuntu installation.
It's an amazing feel.
It's getting old but this thing is damn near perfect.
None that I've found, theyre so thin that it hurts my fingers. Just got an X230 today for $220 amerifatdollars. It was lighter than expected and the keyboard is pretty amazing. Not as good as the old Thinkpads, but its lightyears ahead of ultrabook keyboards.
>greasy neckbeard finger prints everywhere
>apple sticker prominently displayed in case retard forgets he's using a macbook
>apple product, might as well start sucking cawks for the fun of it
My god tier Acer Aspire 4755G
>after 5 years still feels good
Has been killer since I picked it up at cost when I worked in IT sales.
Absolute best thing for the price at the time and still rips everything for comparable prices apart
Eat shit macfags and thinkpad hipster faggots.
What, is your only computer one laptop? An old Apple as well? You waste thread bandwidth and oxygen, OP.
I will probably buy a MBP Retina come tax refund time in April/May.
My HP HDX16 from 2009 has held up surprisingly well for an HP consumer line laptop, but the plastic chrome chipping off is becoming an eyesore, and Windows has stopped seeming "exciting" to me now.
Dell E6420 in the mail now. Paid 370 amerifat shekels for one with 900p screen and nvidia gpu.
Pretty much a T420 with a metallic build and decent keyboad.
Mind you this is how much one o these intel celery notebooks with wxga screens cost in this shithole country.
My mother gave it to me, so I didn't have any room to complain about "free." Plus back then I didn't know any better.
I know now though. I know now that Apple makes the best laptops, period.
>I know now that Apple makes the best laptops, period.
>I know now that Apple makes the best laptops, period.
>They get the best reviews on The Verge and Ars Technica.
>dual flagship kepler mobile CPUs
>flagship mobile haswell CPU
>only marginally better than desktop i5/770, gets utterly shit on by a single desktop 780
this is why gaming laptops are utter shit
Bro the inspiron 6000 was the most popular laptop of all time.
Like I said I have normal hair color.
my laptop of choice
These motherfuckers were built like a tank.
All the flimsy ultrabook shits these days feel like they would fall apart if I sneezed on them.
>built like a tank
Do you live in some alternative universe where tanks are disgusting chinese plastic cheaply painted shittops?
Not god tier but it gets the job done for me. Installed arch and the difference from windows 8 is incredible
I use my laptop for university stuff and it is sold out at the moment, but here is a pretty similar one: http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/dell+inspiron+15+7000+serie+7537+3290/eqsqid/67bc886d-f650-464d-84de-376fa9ad3608
Mine is a little bit better than that and this is kinda the ultra version:
My laptop has a hybrid storage, so that I have like 125 GB of SSD storage and 375 GB of normal storage. My laptop boots in like 5 seconds and the laptop also has a touchscreen. Battery life is okay for that power and speed. Kinda looks like a MacBook Pro, but is cheaper and better.
>gets utterly shit on by a single desktop 780
Are you fucking retarded or just pretending to be? That laptop's 3D Mark score is equivalent to a GTX Titan.
>gaming on battery power
>gaming in public
Only a faggot would think about that
>16GB RAM in a laptop. What are you even?
What are you complaining about?
>caring that much about a computer's appearance
You could've just said that you choke on cock, that's a slightly easier way of saying you're gay
Is this cool enough for you?
I want a modern version of this with better hardware.
not that guy, but 780 rigs can get scores of 10K+ with mild overclocks (ie. within warranty). the "high end gaming PC" is running stock everything
here's a friend's score for example
>inb4 hurr durr overclocking, doesn't count
gaming laptops can't sustain meaningful overclocks (for obvious reasons)
if you're not overclocking your desktop graphics cards you're an idiot
Is this a good deal? Need a laptop for school that can run MATLAB. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer-aspire-15-6-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i5-4gb-memory-500gb-hard-drive-midnight-black/8274088.p?id=1219321335266&skuId=8274088
acer aspire 7750g
was cheap, current gen games still playable at low enough settings with the dedicated graphics, long battery life, and works perfect after 4 years because I take exquisite care of my shit
>not understanding what intel AMT is
>buhuuuu kill switch
all post-c2d cpus has this option you fucking cunt. You can disable this option physically by burning a fuse on your motherboard.
Illiterate pleb. Leave this place
With the way Lenovo is handling the thinkpad series the only options worth considering are the rMBP, mba, the razer blade 14/Aoris if gaming is your thing, or the 2014 Dell XPS 14. Everything else is pretty much shit or outdated.
Can you actually produce a reference that shows somewhat semi- or offical that amt can be disabled permanently (as you claim by burning a fuse).....
and that method provides certainty
>6 years old Acer 5736z
>Opened it up only to upgrade or hardware-mod
I only stopped using it because the oldie Pentium processor and Intel Graphics combo can't keep up.
I didn't even take care of it
>Keyboard looks "heavily used"
>Screen is scratched because the keyboard and bezel makes contact with the LCD
>It was carried on my backpack for years without protection
Battery still works perfectly, lasts 3 hours.
Funny story though
>In 2012 I Got a Sony Vaio laptop
>Battery made by Samsung
>After a year the battery is near-dead, only 20% capacity left
>Battery time dropped from 6 hours to 40 minutes.
My Acer 5736z
>Battery made by Sony
>After all these years, still works
My older Acer, made in 2008
>Battery still works for 2.30 hours.
Laptop batteries from sony are softlocked. They work for ONE year and they suddenly die.
It is not the first Vaio computer I had and this always happen, even if you do not use the battery at all
>Drain the battery to 40%
>Store it away
>A year later battery is dead, no matter what.
The firmware for the management module resides on an EEPROM on-board, it's near the chipset. Find it, remove it and that's it. No more AMT.
Boot up windows
>This device cannot start (code 10)
As easy as that.
I don't see the point of spending more than $500 on a laptop.
Yeah sure I could fork out $1,000 for an ultrabook and yeah it'll probably be fast and all.... but at the end of the day battery technology is still the worst no matter what. After a year the battery turns to absolute shit and the replacement prices are unbelievably high.
People are just better off buying a $400 laptop, it'll end up lasting 3 years if you nurture it carefully. Most people just need their Facebook and porn.
Lets assume i actually crack up one of the x230's i have around. Lets say i manage to find that one chip.
If i remove it, is there any other fallout from that aside from amt and or vpro features gone?
Also, only because something reports an error does not mean it isnt there anymore...
only thing i have left similar to a laptop
surprisingly surpasses my needs
Too late, I don't think I'm going back. I already switched to a rMBP and the premium feel blows the t420 out of the water in my opinion. If Lenovo wants my money they're going to have to make the T or W series not a piece of shit. Because I'm not going to spend a couple grand on anything they have out at the moment. Have you tried the t440/t440s? Or the W series now with a number pad? It looks and feels horrendous . I also doubt they're going to change the keyboard. I've tested the t530 and x230 on various occasions and the keyboard just feels mushy and strange, just like the trackpad on the t440 series. They need to go back to the IBM thinkpad roots. And looking at Lenovos track record it seems unlikely.
Anyone have a surface pro 3?
Does the temperature stay manageable or does it get pretty hot? I'd like to use it in bed, but I usually end up using my android tablet since it doesn't get hot as fuck like my current laptop.
