How do we solve the problem of the Leech?

Are the few elite with large upload bandwidth doomed to have to babysit the thousands of leeches who refuse to contribute any of their upload to the swarm?

Reminder that torrent health is directly proportional to how long you continue to seed content after downloading it!
>>
I have 500 Mbit/s up and I don't seed

Thanks for the free movies assholes
>>
I don't download torrents those are illegal.
>>
>seeding
>asking to be sued by the jews that control the world

nice try
>>
>>45708947
This.
I only torrent when necessary and no longer than necessary.
>>
>>45708921
I never seed. Once I've already gotten my copy there's no reason for me to take the risk and spend the bandwidth to help other people get it. There will always be some chump who keeps seeding because he feels some moral obligation.

How do we solve the problem of the Leech?

Are the few elite who leave their houses and go to the theatre/record shop/video game store doomed to support an industry and babysit for the thousands of leeches who use but refuse to contribute to any of the media they take in?

Reminder that industry health is directly proportional to people supporting it!
>>
>>45708921
I don't seed my torrents, and when I'm downloading them I keep the upload speed capped to 1 kb/s
>>
If nobody wants to seed it's probably crap anyways.

Blame my ISP.

I get 50mbps down and 2 up.
>>
>>45708921
And yet on trackers with high ratio requirements I see less and less seeds on less popular stuff because no one wants to waste their download if they can't make it back. Which means things spread less widely, even if they are fast to dl because everyone who is seeding has a seedbox.
>>
>>45708975
>when I'm downloading them I keep the upload speed capped to 1 kb/s

But then you get slower download speeds yourself.
>>
>>45708921
Every torrent would be healthy if everyone uploaded to a share ratio of at least 2.000.

>>45708947
That doesn't happen if they don't have licensing to whatever you're sharing. Still, it's a very good point that the RIAA and MPAA are Jews.
>>
I my client settings I have it set to "Stop" once a torrent is done downloading, I'm not comfortable seeding because of the risk of AP2P letters and or settlements/copyright trolls/threats etc.

When downloading a torrent I have the upload speed set at 0.5kbps, I still manage to achieve download speeds of around 7.3mbps and considering the distance between me and the nearest exchange in my area that's excellent. If I were to upload I could achieve 2.6mbps upload but fuck the risk.

I've never had to use any other website other than Kickass and I check TorrentFreak daily for news on the P2P world.

I've recently installed Tribler but as it right now it's ded because fuck all users.

I also use a No-Log premium VPN situated in a country that has the most respect for user privacy and internet freedom.
>>
>ive set utorrent to stop the torrent as soon as its finished and never seed
>>
I have 380 kB/s down
and 30kB/s up
Its basically pointless to seed

Remove copryright laws
>>
>>45708987
Oh you ppor guy. I get 2mbps down and 0,4mbps up.
>>
>>45708921
Simple! we re-design the torrent software and protocols in use to severely lower the speed of users who do not upload much, and create a distributed database of how much different IPs upload and download, perhaps as a set of data like { IP:totalRatio }. This ratio is influenced on a torrent-by-torrent basis and is mirrored out to the rest of the stream so that the system can "fight" attempts to defraud it by comparing with everyone else's record of that particular user.

For instance one could institute a control of the like such that:

Until the user has achieved a ratio of at least 1.0, their speed is limited to 250kbps. This allows torrenting of low-priority material like single anime episodes or an audio album at reasonable speed, but restricts big downloads and using your true capacity to non-Leeches.

>>45708991
You are absolutely correct. It's a mechanism to provide insensitive to seeders. I think they should extend that mechanism.
>>
>>45708921
I believe the best compromise I can offer is to seed the file for as long as it took me to download it. Is that fair or am I still an asshole?

Seeding feeds leeches.
Why are you feeding the leeches?
>>
>>45709550
Just get a 1:0 ratio on that file, if the file was a 700MB YIFY movie for example seed 700MB on that movie then stop and remove it.
>>
ratio 1.5

no problems here
>>
I always find it ironic when a pirate calls another pirate a "leech".
>>
>>45709141
or just use private trackers
>>
>>45709045
>Every torrent would be healthy if everyone uploaded to a share ratio of at least 2.000.

This is mathematically impossible.

This thinking is also why private torrent sites that encourage ratios (let alone enforce) above 1.0 are run by idiots.

Agreed.

Are leeches that big a deal in the era of the seedbox?

I mean I seed all of my shit to at least 1.0 (more if I'm on private trackers), and I encourage others to do so too, but I don't think leeches are a problem. At least not to the degree that we need to "solve" it.

I always find it funny when a content creator expects me to pay money upfront for a product while knowing almost nothing about its quality.

Especially when the products don't offer me the same freedoms of use as when I pirate it (almost all modern PC games).

I don't seed and there's nothing you can do to stop me from leeching.

>hurr I never seed! Thanks for the free stuff assholes! I can't believe you care about people other than yourself, morons!

Uh, you're welcome I guess. I mean, it's not like it's even a slight inconvenience to just leave the torrent running, so it's no loss for me.
>>
Limit the speed of download based on upload. The less you are seeding the slower your download will be. Force it.
>>
>>45709883
>it's not like it's even a slight inconvenience to just leave the torrent running
but its a huge inconvenience
>>
>>45709899
Base it on connecting speed of possible because that idea limits people with bad upload rates.
>>
>>45709654
Me fucking too! I hate how sanctimonious some of these niggers are sometimes.

Especially the porn pirates like the guys on SAFF. You're sharing content illegally and it costs you nothing to copy it, but you refuse to share it with "leeches". I wanna use the term autism, but I'm trying not to throw it around so much.
>>
>>45709715
>So 2.000 is generous?

Yes. You've given out two complete copies.

But enforcing this for everyone is fucking stupid, because you're enforcing everyone to give everyone else two complete copies.

If everyone has a ratio over 1 for a file, where do the other copies go?
>>
>>45710032
Why not set something up like that old game pirating site? The more you upload, you get points and faster downloads. The more points, the more download speed or at least if you go negative you lose speed. The more in the negative the less you get.
>>
The media one consumes reflects the person. Shitty people who leech tend to download shitty things. On the other hand, quality torrents tend to foster the kind of niche community that are not selfish assholes and seed for their fellow community members. Of course, there are still leeches, but the proportion is much lower.

So really it's just a self-solving problem, shit shows have to rely on the generosity of a few. If those few leave, tough luck, no one of value cares.
>>
>>45710032
Enforcing it would be stupid, I agree.

Also, it's not going to happen. There will always be some people who don't upload much and others who upload more.
>>
>>45710099
I kinda like the private tracker concept in general. Encourages seeding, and a good bonus point system makes things easy.
>>
After receiving a notice from nbcast, not my ISP, I stopped seeding.
>>
>>45710143
>murica the land of freedom
>>
>>45708921
I never seed torrents.. I download them and instantly remove them from my uTorrent list when they're done. I can't believe why there's so many idiots on public trackers that actually do see it as their holy mission to seed shit. My only explanation is, that most people don't understand torrent and just keep it up at all time.
>>
>>45708991
I limit my upload speed to 40kb/s and I always get to the cap with my download speed anyways (only 2MB/s though)
>>
My upload rate terrible shit.

I'm already performing an action of obtaining content without giving up anything for it. You really expect me to seed?

Give me one reason I should seed. None of this "without seeding, no free stuff" crap. If the system content creators wanted was in place, I wouldn't have free stuff at all, so to be living in a reality where I can get their content for free, I don't give a rats ass about it disappearing. I'm already privileged in the way of getting the content for free.
>>
get a seedbox, or don't waste your time with private trackers
>>
i dont need any of the stuff i leech. i would be happy if the torrent network go down. but something else would just come out of the groound anyways and replace it. i wish the internet would die so i could go back to boardgames and playing sports
>>
>>45711075

>It's a mechanism to provide insensitive to seeders. I think they should extend that mechanism.

Your opinions are retarded and you should feel bad.
>>
>>45711102
can you elaborate? im not against technology, but nobody needs 102349344395tb of porn or 12138437642tb of cgi movies. this trend is killing humanity.

side effect is that technology gets improved through rising requests of media, which can be used in other fields such as space exploring, i agree. but this is just a lucky side effect when in reality theres just some people wanting to get richer and richer
>>
>>45711144
>I don't like it therefor it should be a ded technology xD

Your opinions are retarded and you should feel bad.
>>
humanity would be looking at colonizing the moons of jupiter and devoting funding to FTL travel research and terraforming

instead we spend tens of billions of dollars feeding niggers and shift money around to the worthless and spend our resources on better consumer products to fatten and enslave the consumer with cheap thrills

and the jews plot the annihilation of all that was once beautiful
>>
>>45711144
>>45711075
>>45711189
The only thing I agree with you on is the last two lines of that last post. Other than that, your opinions are pretty stupid. If you're really sick of it, wipe your hard drives, sell your computers on ebay, and become amish or something. Nobody's stopping you.
>>
>>45708921
Tribler can do this, I've never used it though.

Seeding isn't directly proportional to the seed time, it's based on the number of users too. The more you seed, the more seeders there are to seed more

>>45709836
>comma as radix point
I thought you had almost four hundred thousand ratio there
>>
>>45711223
i have low self-discipline. i have to be forced to change myself. i cant do it myself. im too lazy for that. the internet dying would leave me no other choice but to do other stuff i (used to) love like doing more sports and playing boardgames and so on.

like if my parents would kick me out of their house tomorrow. i would have to actually do something about my situaiton. right now im too laty to change anything because i have it way too good
